Texas vs Miss st 6 pm Sunday

I like the fight to finish. We’ve got the arms to make it through the bottom of the bracket but we can’t have another night like that at the plate in Omaha. We’ll get these guys again.

If we give up 2 runs here on out, we'll win it all. Very frustrating game to wait until the final inning to attempt to make contact. Just wish we would've had a runner on 2nd with that last single to center.

They battled at the end. That was a historic pitching performance by MSU, but also by Texas. We had 21 strikeouts, but lost by one with two men on in the bottom of the 9th.

Show up Tuesday and beat Tennessee.

Hodo had a bad game as did most but his drop then swing at a bad low pitch w 2-0 count really hurts. Should’ve been a 1-1 game with a base hit to win.

I think this is the worst game I’ve seen Texas play so poorly and be that close at the end. I hope they bring their A game Tue

Liked the fight at the end, but they have to have smarter at bats than they had the first 8 innings of that game. Going to be a tough fight from the loser's bracket, but it all starts with the fake UT :)

Well, that's baseball. Frustrating as hell but what a pitching duel. Four great pitchers all hitting on every cylinder. Hate to lose a game like that but Texas just needs to put it behind them and get ready for Tuesday. Texas has the deep pitching staff needed to come through a losers bracket and with the extra rest the CWS has if there is a team that can do a losers bracket run its this Texas team.

I watched the game at a bar with my wife. I told her the extra run in the 4th when Hodo misplayed that triple (sun? wind?) would be the difference maker. I figured we needed to keep the game within 1 run while that starter was in cause we could get a run on the relievers and then steal one in extra innings.

Tough loss, but ran into superb pitching from MSU. Guess the Horns will have to win it the hard way, coming back through the loser's bracket. Fortunately the pitching staff is deep.

I don't understand the logic of putting in Hansen in the 8th when you're down by 2. Of course if we lose to tenn with Stevens on the mound it doesn't matter.

Very solid pitching job by Ty and Pete. We sure could use some help with the bats though …

Stevens, Cole, Gordon, Nixon, and Kubicek can keep us in the next few games, and keep opposing scores low, but we’ve got to at least put the ball in play more. Just an average offense will do.

Seems fitting the game ends with an easy Dodo grounder to 2nd when his half a*&(* effort in RF is what gave them the game.

I also don't understand the logic of putting in Hansen in the 8th when you're down by 2. Of course if we lose to tenn with Stevens on the mound it doesn't matter.
I gave up second guessing which pitcher to bring in for relief. Earlier in the year, Pierce called in Gordon at a critical point in a close game. I thought to myself: “WTF is he doing putting Gordon in at a time like this (instead of say, Nixon or Cole)”. Gordon promptly proceeds to retire the side, including mowing down a batter or two with SOs. Then I thought to myself: “I sure am glad he went with Gordon there…”.

Pete has been excellent, and could even be considered (by some) to be our top arm. I can only guess that Pierce knew Stevens would start the second game no matter what. Maybe he wants to use Pete as a reliever throughout the CWS.

All of the following could start:

Madden
Stevens
Hansen
Kubicek
Quintanilla (has gone quite a few innings before and looks just as strong at the end—hits the high 90s on fastballs)

Also, Gordon could go a lot of innings in an outing if needed—whether starting or in relief.

I also do not understand why were burned our best starter since the OSU series for a 2 inning stint. However, unless our sticks cannot seem to hit the damn ball. I also do not understand why posters are raging on Hodo for the misplayed ball. The stat that stands out to me is 21 K’s.

I would like to have seen Hansen start against TN to avoid a 2 and que.

Agree. Not sure why Texas cannot either recruit hitters or teach it. Other teams seem to. I remember year before last when we played LSU and all I could think was how do they have almost an entire lineup hitting over 300. It was like pins and needles just wondering when one would hit and the snowball would start. Wish we could hit like that.
