Miami won over Quinnipiac 93.-48 to set a 2 pm championship game with Texas, a 94-83 winner over Central Michigan. Miami moves to 10-1 and Texas to 8-3. The consolation game will be played after the championship game due to Miami’s FB team playing in an afternoon bowl game that same day.Miami made a change in their starting lineup after the loss to Nebraska. They replaced seniors Diane Barnes (#33, 6-2 Sr. F) and Charmaine Clark(#14, 5-11 Sr. G/F) with frosh Morgan Stroman (#32, 6-1 Fr. F) and Stefanie Yderström (#3, 5-8 Fr. G). They join Sylvia Bullock (#34, 6-2 Soph. F), Shenise Johnson(#42, 5-11 Soph. F) and Riquna Williams (#1, 5-7 Soph. G). Bullock, Johnson, and Williams have started all games so far. Barnes and Clark are the only two seniors on the Miami 10 player roster. The other eight players include 3 sophs and 5 frosh, no juniors. Miami head coach Katie Meier is a 1990 graduate of Duke, two years before Coach G took over that program.

Stats for both Texas and Miami do not include those from this tournament.

Miami has four players in double figures and another just off that mark. Williams (24.1 ppg), Johnston (18.1 ppg), Barnes (10.4 ppg) and Yderstrom (10.0 ppg)are the four in double figures. Clark at 9.6 ppg just misses joining them. Williams, Johnson, and Clark are averaging over 32 mpg while five others are between 28 and 14 mpg. Barnes is the leading rebounder with 10 rpg. Johnson (7.6 rpg), Stroman (6.6 rpg) and Bullock (6.0 rpg) provide additional strong support on the boards. They are outrebounding opponents by 12.7 rpg. Bullock is their top shotblocker at 1.9 a game. She is the only one with more than 7 blocks in the season. Miami gets to the FT line a lot, an average of 22 times a game but are only converting about 67% of their FTs. Williams and Johnson are the ones most likely to get to the line and the best FT shooters on the team at 83.7% and 78.7%, respectively. Williams is their primary 3pt threat, having taken just about half of the team’s 167 3pt attempts with 88 put up. She is making 39.8% of her 3s and Miami is connecting on 40.1% overall from BTA. Williams and Johnson have combined to put up 315 of Miami’s 663 FG attempts or 47.5%. Both are hitting over 45% from the field with Johnson making 51.6%.

The Horns are led by Brit with 14.5 ppg. Kat is second at 12.3 ppg. She leads the team in rebounding with 7.4 rpg. Ashley is second in boards with 6.7 rpg. Ashley leads a blocking parade with 3.2 bpg. Brit started her first game of the season against Central Michigan and responded with a double double (26 pts & 10 rebs). Horns once again will have a height advantage inside. They took advantage of this against Central Michigan. Miami is a bit taller but does not have anyone with the height of Ashley or Cokie. The combo of Kat and Ashley inside should give the Horns an advantage rebounding.

Projected starting lineups :
[pre]Texas Miami

Ashleigh Williams
Brit Johnson
Erika Yderstrom
Kat Stroman
Ashley Bullock [/pre]

I like this starting lineup for Texas. There’s plenty of offensive firepower and strong rebounding.

Should be a fun game. Both teams will get out and run. The winner is likely to be the one that is able to hit shots consistently. This would be a good win over a very good team for the Horns. Nebraska handed Miami their lone loss to date 76-71 at Miami’s home court. Nebraska won that game from BTA as Miami held a slight edge in just about every other category..

Game time will be at 2 pm on KVET 1300 AM. From Miami, the following are available: Web/Live Stats:The Link
Internet Audio: wvum.org.

I think you can get AM1300 the Zone online by going to this link.

Not certain on this...but, i tried to get 1300 The Zone over the internet when the Horns were playing in the paradise jam and there was a different broadcast on compared to just turning on the radio.

If someone gets it to broadcast over the internet, let me know (i'm sure i was probably doing something wrong)!!

and, thanks for the preview BabHorn!!

I got to it yesterday from the TexasSports, Women's Basketball, Schedule - click the Listen button in the "next event" box.

Sounds like this will be a real test for Texas....

I hope we can cut down on the turnovers....I have a feeling that will make the difference....and the team is NOT meeting Coach G's request for no more than 13 per game....hoping that will change soon....

GO TEXAS!!!! Beat Miami!!!

Coach g took a time out, chewed *** BT, and we go on a run...

Defense is pretty good, AG blocking tons of shots!!

Half-time Score is 42 - 35 Texas

great start to the 2nd half! hopefully they'll keep the momentum going for the rest of the half...don't need to ease up and let Miami go on another run to get back in it. close it out strong horns!

Ricky Williams called for tickets to this game....

But he hasn't come yet...

Erika forced a turnover!!

Nash another score!
