Texas vs Maryland Game Thread

I watched a lot of the Herman-UH games and with them he was such a better, more creative play-caller on offense. They were always attacking opponent weaknesses. But Ive seen none of this with us. I would even say its the opposite -- we play to our weaknesses.

Sam did not look good then as he stepped into the pressure; not away from it. Also, he is not able to look at any receiver other than his # 1 option. Hopefully he will settle down in the second half and show some progress with reading the defense.

A flag on a guy who had position AND was going for the ball. If the two players' positions and actions had been switched there, they still would have called it on the defense - seen it hundreds of times.

Exactly. The pass was affected by the rush and was far short. Their WR managed to put on the brakes sooner and tripped up Davis. When a DB does that, he gets flagged - we saw it a million times in 2011/2012 when Ash would underthrow Mike Davis by 10 yards and we'd get a free penalty bonus b/c Davis would run into the defender while they both tried to adjust.
That was a totally ugly terrible play by Davis. The ball was a floating duck. Davis should have intercepted the ball had he been looking for it.

Wouldn't assume Sam will be starting 2nd half. They are not getting that much pressure. Receivers can't get open and Sam has been all over the place.

I can't understand how they can get wide on a 3-3-5 defense. I can see running right at you, but not outside. Incredible.

Our problem at this point is that we can't drive more than 50 yards with this offense, and our defense is giving up too many conversions. So now again we get a stop but we're pinned back.

Last year it was, “Our first string can play with anyone.”

This year we were told that this was the bast fall camp in memory.

So far, Herman has been a huge disappointment, and has failed to show us much of anything,

The good thing is that apparently they've backed out of a lot of the exotic stuff and are playing base defense, and it's helped a lot. Defense is at least managing the game at this point. But with so many young guys out there, I don't get why that wasn't the plan from minute 1.
