Just got in and turned on the game. First sight that greeted me was a Ruffin pitch. Without knowing the score or the inning, I could tell it would be a good day cuz he really had some snap and movement on it.
Then the announcers say Texas has a seven-run lead into the seventh.
Who would our closer be if Ruffin comes out? Is Wood fresh enough? Would it be a good idea to get him in there and see if he can regain some confidence?
Chance starts Lytle off with a strike. Sends a slider wide for ball one. Then another up the gut for strike two. Lytle checks his swing and stares at strike three as Chance ends the day with a complete game victory. 9-3, Texas!
Ruffin's line: 9 innings pitched, 6 strikeouts, 4 hits (the "team" cycle--one of each) and two balls, one of which was rather costly.
Belt, Torres and Rupp were the offensive leaders of the day. Belt on pace to be tournament MVP for the second straight year (or was he top offensive player?).
So, looking ahead to the rest of pool play, I'm assuming we need K-State to beat Baylor tonight, then we gotta beat K-State Friday to finish 2-1.
But what of Baylor-Kansas? If the Bears best the Jayhawks, they'd also be 2-1 along with K-State. What's the pool-play tiebreaker in the event of a three-way tie ... BCS rankings?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that, in the event of a two-way tie between BU and the 'Horns, the first tie breaker is who fared the best against Sand Aggy.
cant lose with the BU/KSU game. IF KSU wins then we have a shot at the final if BU wins then we know that Saturday all arms are available and we can get the rotation set for the regional next week. If it wasnt already clinched, today clinched a good national seed and that means either possibility for Saturday is OK.
