It's almost a do or die situation to keep our head above water in the conference. It's fortunate that the conference isn't very good this year. So if you can string some series wins together you will most likely move up.

Playing with a short deck with your All American closer not with the team and Ty Marlow also not available as a pitcher today according to Augie.

It's also very windy so things could be wild in the field with balls in the air.

Hall leads off and grounds one deep in the hole at short and beats it out for an infield hit.

Carter sac bunts him up to second with one away.

Weis K's swinging for the second out.

Payton walks on four pitches as they pitched around him to put two on with two down.

Hinojosa with a clutch single to right center and Hall scores to make it 1-0 Texas and Payton moves around to third.

Ty Marlow flies out to center to end the inning.

Texas leads 1-0 as Kansas comes to bat.

Thornhill gives up a lead off single to left to put a man on.

A sac bunt that Thornhill fields and double clutches and gets the out, but the runner at first went all the way to third on the play. That shouldn't happen.

A ground ball to short is out two as Hinojosa holds the runner at third.

Thornhill works out of the inning on ground ball that goes Marlow to Marlow to end the inning.

Texas leads 1-0 after one inning.

Felts leads off the second for Texas and walks on four pitches to reach first.

Shaw playing left today instead of Johnson sac bunts him to second.

B. Marlow flies out to left for the second out as Felts holds at second.

Hall flies out to center to end the threat and the inning.

To the bottom of the second Texas leads 1-0.

Thornhill with another lead off single to left puts a runner at first.

And another sac bunt moves the runner this time to only second with one away.

Next hitter K's swinging on the big change up for two outs.

With the help of a great play by Hinojosa Thornhill once again gets out of the inning as C.J. ranged up the middle and dives and throws the runner out by an eyelash from his knees.

Texas leads 1-0 after two.

Carter leads off the third with a walk to reach.

Pitching coach out for a visit as the Kansas starer has been wild.

Weis tries the sac bunt but pops it up to first for out one.

He had a 2-0 count and tried to bunt ball three.

Payton singles to right on a hit and run play as Carter moves all the way to third.

Hinojosa on the first pitch pops up to short for the second out as the runners hold.

Marlow trying to clutch up doesn't and grounds out to third to end the promising inning for Texas with no runs scored.

Texas leads 1-0 to the bottom of three.

Thornhill gives up another lead off hit, this time a double down the third base line.

A ground out to second moves the runner to third with one away.

A ground ball to Marlow at second with the infield playing and he uncorks a wild throw to the plate that allows the run to score. The error ties the game at 1.

A ground ball to short is out two as the runner was moving on the pitch and is now on second with two away.

The next man walks to put two on.

Another walk loads the bases.

A K swinging ends the threat and keeps the error from being a big disaster.

After three innings tied at 1.

Felts leads off the fourth and flies out to center.

Shaw flies out to left for the second out.

B. Marlow grounds out to first as Texas goes in order.

Bottom half of the fourth coming tied at 1.

Thornhill puts the lead off runner on again this time with a walk.

He goes 2-0 on the next man and here comes Skip.

The batter fakes the bunt and then on a hit and run play slaps a single to left and the runner at first moves to third.

No outs with runners on the corners.

Next man can't get the safety squeeze down and then K's looking for a big out one.

A slow grounder to second is a 4-6 FC for out two as the lead run scores to make it Kansas leading 2-1.

A ground ball to third and Carter throws wildly to first for another error.

Runners on the corners now with two out.

Bloop single to left and another run scores to make it 3-1 as the errors are killing Texas.

Fly ball to center ends the inning.

Four in the books now and Kansas leads 3-1.

Hall leads of and walks to put a man on.

Hall steals second.

Carter bloops one to right and the right fielder slides and can't make the play. Carter keeps going and slides safely into second barely. Hall had hold up and see if the catch would be made and only advances to third.

Tying runs in scoring position with no outs.

Pitching change for Kansas.

Weis up against the big righty new pitcher and he laces a single to center to score a run to make it 3-2.

Runners on the corners with not outs.

Payton walks to load the bases with no outs for Hinojosa.

He chops a little ground ball to third and he throws home for the force out for out one.

Ty Marlow flies out to center for a SF to tie the game at 3.

Payton moved up to third.

Hinojosa steals second.

Felts walks to load the bases again.

Shaw lines out to center to end the inning. Really hoped to get more out of that inning.

But the game is now tied at 3 halfway through the game.

Thornhill out again trying to retire the lead off man in an inning for the first time today and he does as he gets a K looking for out one.

Check swing come backer to Thornhill is out two.

A K swinging is out three for a nice shutdown inning for Thornhill after tying the game.

Tied at three after five.

B. Marlow leads off against another KU pitcher the big righty Duncan that threw well on Friday night.

He grounds right back to the pitcher for the first out.

Hall bunts and the pitcher fields and throws low and it gets away from the first baseman. They never said how it was ruled, but it looked like an error.

Hall may be running, well I wish they would have let him as
Carter on the first pitch grounds into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

To the bottom of the sixth tied at 3.

Thornhill settling down now gets a ground ball to short for the first out. With out the errors he would be leading and in line for a win.

Ground ball to B. Marlow and his throw to Ty Marlow is dropped for another error.

Now a bunt and Felts goes to second and the throw is wild and into center field for yet another error.

Runners on the corners with one out on two errors.

A little grounder to short is a 6-4 FC as the lead run scores to give Kansas a 4-3 lead.

The runner with a steal attempt is gunned down by Felts to end the inning.

But the self inflicted damage is done two errors makes it Kansas leading 4-3 after six innings. Tough luck for Thornhill.

Weis works a walk to lead off the seventh on a full count pitch.

Payton with the sac bunt moves him to second.

Hinojosa pops up on the first pitch to first on a bad pitch for out two.

Ty Marlow up needing a big two out hit and he gets it just by the second baseman, but the right fielder was playing shallow and charged it and threw a strike to home and nails Weis at the plate to end the inning.

I don't know if Weis didn't get a good jump or what, but with two outs and running on any hit I thought he would score.

Kansas still leads 4-3 to the stretch. Seems the Kansas coach was tossed out of the game because he was mad that Weis came in standing up and said something to the home plate ump.

Thornhill gets the first man on a fly ball to center.

The next man singles to put a man on and here comes Skip.

Thornhill stays in and a fly ball to center is out two.

Ground ball to second ends the inning.

To the eighth now Kansas leads 4-3.

Felts leads off and flies out to right for out one.

Shaw grounds a single to right.

B. Marlow singles up the middle to put two on.

Hall up with again a runner in scoring position for Texas.

Have to plate some these runners or the season may be about over.

Kansas is going to their closer that threw a ton of pitches Friday night.

Hope he is not rested yet.

Hall faces him with the tying run at second and flies out to left for out two.

Carter with an opportunity for a big hit, but a ground ball up the middle is fielded by the shortstop who flips to second for the force to end the inning and the threat.

Bottom of the eighth now Kansas leads 4-3.

Thornhill back out there and he gives up a lead off single to left.

A sac bunt moves the runner to second with one away.

A swinging K is out two.

Another K swinging is out three.

Can't say enough about the outing today by Thornhill and no matter the results he is a winner today. He got not much support with the bats and even less with the gloves. He could be winning this game 3-1.

Three outs to save the season I think with the hitters up you want.

Kansas leads 4-3 to the ninth.

Weis lines a single to right center leading off.

Payton sac bunts him to second. Sometimes I wonder about that with Payton up.

Johnson comes in to run for Weis.

Hinojosa flies out to right for out two.

Marlow flies out to shallow center to end the game.

Kansas wins 4-3.

Where do you start on this?

Three one run games. Your All American closer gets suspended for the series. He could have been the difference in the first game.

Peters throws his heart out in the second game to get a win, but has to throw a ton of pitches because I think the coaches thought he was the best option without Knebel.

Today Thornhill works a great game and Texas had plenty of opportunities to score more runs than they did.

But even without those runs the game was lost because we booted the ball all over the field.

Their closer comes back after going 4 and 2/3 innings Friday and closes out the game. Our closer is in Austin.

Augie sounded like a beaten down man in the post game interview because I think he knows it has almost certainly slipped away again this season for lots of reasons.

I hope Nicholson gets his recruits to come to school and turn it around next year. I just don't see much happening this season after we lose our fourth conference series in a row in a weak conference. At 4-8 we are either last in that conference or maybe tied with Tech and TCU depending on what happened today.

This team outside of the starting pitching seems in disarray.

Texas will come back strong and beat powerhouse Pan American. The players will again have learned what it takes to win and will suddenly have confidence in each other and their coaching staff. They will talk amongst themselves about what it means to represent the great tradition of baseball at the University of Texas. All will be well. Until Friday and their next conference game. Then, we'll suck once more.

NBH7 - thanks for all the updates... baseball powerhouse ku wining this or any other series is a new low for our storied program imho. Gosh tex, I hope you are right about the future...
