Texas vs KSU, game two in Austin

Feel bad for Imani but she's in a slump and when she is on the floor it seems to pull the rest of the team down as well. Brady saved their butts tonight.

Brady had some fight tonight for sure. I'm hoping the last few games are behind Imani and she comes with a clear head on Sunday. She has had bad games before....she will pull out of it. Just hoping sooner rather than later. Ariel played very well and actually fought to get us going. Very proud of her!!! We HAVE to finish strong! No more sloppy games!!! Hook 'em freakin' HORNS!!!!

Texas only shot 37% against ksu in the first game so it's not a surprise that they struggled in this game. When Brooke isn't making jump shots from the perimeter Texas struggles from the perimeter. I think Imani just needs to be aggressive, even if she makes mistakes she needs to be aggressive and just play hard. It wasn't pretty but it's still a win.

Had to watch the game on DVR and they didn't show Coach Aston immediately after but she should have been in the refs' faces when Lewis went full body block on Ariel in the 3rd quarter without a foul call.

I was worried when we got down by 14 points early in the 3rd quarter, but the team pulled together, fought hard, and cut that lead down quickly before KSU could put their foot on our throats.

Hats of to Brady; glad to see her have some individual success on the court.

Ariel has to learn to play smarter defensively; she can't get into the flow of the game on the bench, and she is our best mid-range shooter. Without her on the court, we lose a dimension of our offense.

Not sure what to think of Imani's play lately. She's the only one who can pull herself out of that funk. As well as she played the first half of the season, I knew she had have a couple o off games here and here; but, did not expect this 5 game swoon from her.

We're scorching the nets tonight. Six FGs in one half is pretty sad. Too many turnovers once again. This team continues to play this way, a win the rest of the way out is going to be difficult.

Hope Aston can light some fire in the locker room.
At halftime, 18 points and 12 turnovers....omg!

Was at the game. A woman I sit next and knows the refs (all women) said two of the three are crappy refs, while the third good ref wasn't making calls (or getting her two co-refs to call better).

Lots of sloppy passes that resulted in turnovers, but when I looked up I saw that KSU had more turnovers than the Horns (a surprise - as we had 3 turnovers in the first few minutes).

#22 on KSU was a beast in the first half and at one point, after she scored on Imani, one of the players was scolding her about letting 22 score on her with ease. Imani was clearly frustrated and said something like she was trying. The frustrating thing to me was that whenever Imani got the ball down low, immediately 3 purple jerseys were surrounding her. The same wasn't done for 22 when they got the ball. And, Karen didn't implement the twin-towers lineup...probably because she wanted fast hustle down the court.

But in Karen's favor, I was watching LHN and they said #22 only scored 2 points in the entire second half.

Speaking of which, it was the frenzied, fast-paced play that got us back into the game in the second half. Caused enough mistakes on KSU's part to give us chances to score.

My wife's a KSU grad. The only time she doesn't root for UT is when any KSU team plays Texas. Good for another year!

That was supposedly a top notch referee crew actually. Fran & Nell commented on that right before the game started.

If there's a piece of good news from tonight's game, it's that we didn't fold, and we FINALLY decided to collapse a 2nd player onto Lewis....thus tremendous problems for her in the 2nd half. . Not only did it limit her to 2 points in the 2nd half, it caused K. State to turnover the ball quite a bit and got us back in the game.
Perhaps this win will help certain players get out of their mental funk.
I have a sneaky suspicion we'll have a great offensive showing in our next game.

Proud of Brooke for getting the points she did. She was being face guarded most of the game, especially in the 2nd half. I felt bad for her but she's a fighter man!!!!

Dee Kantner and Lisa Mattingly are known to be among the best in the business and probably have a Final Four or two under their belts (I'm guessing). I've seen them do many high profile games. Not sure about Tina Napier. Off night maybe?

Our broadcasters referred to them as the "A Team" and sung the praises of their past history.

It was a good strategy to face guard Brooke and play a sagging zone on the rest of the players. Coach Aston and her staff have to go out and recruit some shooters.

They undoubtedly have 15+ final fours under their belt between the 3 of them. And they are absolutely among the best of the best. What I saw from them last night was consistency and if you ask any coach in America what they want most out of a crew that will likely be the first thing out of their mouth. They were not perfect by any means, but I don't think any crew is.

If things hold serve and we're playing for a piece of, or the outright title in Waco I'd much rather see them than any other crew we've had this season. And they certainly wont be inclined to take Mulkey's ****.

Something tells me racerrx was not sitting next to Coach Condradt (or anyone else in the know). Sounds like they gave him a load of BS.

Box score indicates Empress only played 17 minutes, but wasn't in any real foul trouble. She only took 4 shots, but did not make any. Very odd game when we don't see her penetrating and attacking the basket (and being called for a charge). The one tine I recall her doing that, she dribbled the ball off her foot or just lost control of the ball.

They were typical officials for women's bb games.....if a shot gets blocked, it's a foul....if a player jumps to shoot, comes down with the ball, it's a foul.....i guess they can't imagine women being able to tie-up on shots or block shots without fouling.
And, yes, those refs would drool at the possibility of being able to ref "for" Mulkey. After all, Muley's "got game."

She's really been looking slow the last 3 games. I wonder if she's a bit banged up...or if she's just lost her legs at this point in the season. I'd like to see her coming off the bench for the next couple of games, with Brianna and Aerial starting. Let her get her legs back, hopefully. Most of her shots are short, her dribble-penetration is a step off.....signs of someone who's legs are not up with her mind. She's always played fast, rough, and strong. She may need a little break from the minutes she's been given over the first 20'something games.

If you think that Tina Napier is considered among the best of the best.....you've lost your mind. And, I think you would be mostly alone in your assertion that Napier is considered by many coaches in the profession to be that good. She is without a doubt one of THE worst, most inconsistent officials I've ever witnessed in all the years I've been following the womens' game. The other two I can agree with you on, but not Napier!!!!!

Yes, team played much better when Lang was on the floor. I like Atkins off the bench for energy and scoring. We really need Taylor and Davenport to play big the rest of the season.

It was fantastic to see the fc press in the 3rd quarter. I so wanted to see that in the 4th against OU. I know it requires a great deal of energy but the results are always immediate and we seem to have players who can withstand the higher energy requirements.

the AAS post game story:

Aston then revealed a story about Sanders addressing her teammates on Monday following a film session.

Aston: “Brady told the players, ‘Whoever is in the game needs to play hard because I’m sitting on the bench wanting to play. We all are. Everyone who sits on the bench on our team wants to play. if you get minutes you better value them.’ It was important for someone to step up. It’s part of being on a team. You have to be ready when your number is called. You never know when it’s your chance to contribute to this special season.”

On Wednesday, Brady Sanders answered the call.

The beautiful thing is that we can agree to disagree. I've seen her ref quite a few games and always came away with the same feeling of consistency.

Someone else mentioned this crew would ref "for" Mulkey, and with that assertion I disagree. I feel like they're among the only ones who would actually keep her in check and "T" her up when necessary.

They ARE called by some as the "Dream Team of Referees", but 2 of the 3 were more like the Nightmare Team at this game...

Worst game I have EVER seen Napier call...hands down!
