Texas vs Idaho

Nice to see Lattimore starting to make an impact. Hope she can be that effective in the B12.
She was a much better matchup against Idaho’s speed than Lauren. I think we’ll see more than a few games where Vic has to sub athleticism over experience but Lauren seemed to be in good spirits on the bench.

Definitely good to see the players who were injured get some playing time. Hunter and I thought I saw Kobe in for a very brief few minutes but announcers didn't say anything about it so I may have been mistaken. Lattimore seems to be gaining more understanding about Vic's system. Now she just needs some conditioning and additional muscle. Did I hear the announcers say that Jody was pushing for more playing time for her? ;) Really eager for Moore to get back on the floor. Gaston is becoming a scoring machine. It will be hard to get her out of the starting lineup. Seems like the team did fine when Joann, Mathuru or Hunter ran the point when Rori took a break. Loved Ebo's photo bombing of Gaston's after game interview.

Latasha using the most of her minutes with a double-double no less. Still needs to be tougher inside, but she looked much improved. Solid games for Rori and DeYona. And HUNTER IS BACK!:clap:

Hunter looked very comfortable running the point.....VERY.... I don’t mean to minimize Ashley’s contributions, but this team won’t miss a beat with her departure. It just opens up more playing time for others who are far more talented! Lattimore looked way more comfortable and you can just see her incredible potential. Gaston is getting better and better, and the sky is the limit for her. Interesting to see Vic experiment with Lattimore at the 3 spot.....

Like the way our team has the depth to play different players based on what our opponents have. Speed in the post = Lattiemore/Gaston 5 and warren at 4, Size in the post = Ebo/ Gaston. Playing zone, Hunter and Mathru to break it. Its makes it to where we can go against anyone.

Y'all know more than me. But during recruiting, Hunter was sometimes listed as PG. And then when it dawned on me that Hunter and Harmon both played on the same HS team and both were the same class, I got confused. Did Harmon share PG duties with Rori? Or just switch from Guard to PG when Rori was on the bench? I have no problems with Matharu or Hunter being PG2 when Rori is on the bench.

We are going to be hard to defend when Moore returns.

You’ll have worry about the 3 with Matharu, Hunter or even Holle. You’ll have to worry about the drive with Moore, Gaston and Warren. You have to worry about the pull-up jumper with JAT and Harmon. And you’ll have to worry about the paint with Ebo and Lattimore. And several of those could be in more than one category. If everyone is healthy, we are a solid team.

  • Hunter flipping to PG when Rori wasn’t available.
  • They also played on different EYBL teams so I think Kyndall played a lot of PG there.

2021 Class: Hunter was considered the #6 Point Guard in the nation and overall #24 recruit. Rori was #3 / #10 PG. Honestly had we not gotten Harmon we’d have still considered ourselves lucky to have Hunter. Together they are a tremendous get.

What do we have to do to work on attendance? Panning the audience or lack of it is sad. A little over 1k show up yesterday. Pathetic.

If there’s anything that causes me concern about Vic leaving for aggy more than the fact its his alma mater, it’s the relative disregard shown for the WBB program by the students and fans.

True but know that Aggy only shows up like that when Texas comes to town. They don’t normally have a crowd like that.
I agree. We need attendance to increase and I hope the location of the new arena might make more students show up. Consistent winning seasons would help too. It’s pretty awful to fill the arena for Baylor and then everyone see a loss as has happened for many years now. Same when Aggy came last year.

Absolutely. And now that the women's volleyball season is over, now would be a great time for Vic, Deconte, and all of the Texas brass to implore people to show up just like they did for volleyball. I know that Gregory being on campus plays a roll in that, but those same fans and students need to be at the wbb games.

Although the Mbb team has struggled a bit Chris Beard has done a great job of interacting with students and getting them to show up whether it's pizza parties or whatever. The entire athletic department needs to be doing the same for a program ranked just outside the top ten.

It’s so hard to compare Volleyball because attendance at the SE Missouri game, for instance, would have sold out Gregory gym.

I do miss the Jody Conradt days when we often filled the lower level at least. For those of you old enough, seeing fans in the upper level was truly amazing.

Sadly, due to COVID Vic really hasn’t had a chance to prove what his teams can pull. These pre-conference games against nobody teams have never pulled large crowds. The Tech game will be the first true test of the Vic era but even that one won’t have students fully back from the break yet.

Agreed. But you also have to remember when Coach Aston had her success for a few years, one of the things that she was frustrated with was also trying to get more students/ fans to come to games.

It will never be what it was under Jody because Austin has grown so much and there are a lot more options for entertainment. Which I think Vic also has to understand.

You're not in a place like these small college towns in Mississippi or College Station where you don't have anything better to do but to go to a WBB game against Idaho. So it does matter the who the opponent is.
You also bring up a great point about Gregory not being very big, which makes it easier to sell out. But the push for more students /fan support should still be an important thing for the athletic department.

Other than the new soccer team, we’ve always had bars and live music festivals. If anything, it’s the horrendous traffic - LOL. But to focus in on what you are really saying, I am foggy about the make-up of those big audiences. I really can’t remember students ever being a large percentage. I’m probably wrong about that. But I have always thought It very odd that more students don’t show up.

I have to believe the administration could make a difference. My son is a soph and admittedly, he's not a big sports fan. He is though aware of football and has mentioned that it might be fun to go to a game (I told him he didn't miss much this year :rolleyes1:). He has never mentioned any of the women's sports, even though he knows I'm a big WBB fan. He's not a chauvinist so I have to wonder where women's sports ranks in campus culture.

My opinion, that can't be verified, is that the permanent drop in women's game is due to Longhorn Network. I also remember the days where the lower tier overflow would sometimes have people seated in the upper tier.

This last game against Idaho is a perfect example. It was scheduled on Saturday at 1:00. It's the last home game before Christmas, yet many regulars I normally see bailed on the game. I saw some of them later that night at the volleyball Regional finals! They can miss the WBB because they just have to DVR the game and watch it later or just wait for someone to upload it onto YouTube.

I've had friends who are diehard MBB fans and have had season tickets for 20+ years. I asked if they'd gone to any games this year and they said, "Nah. We've been lazy and just watch it on LHN. Maybe in January we'll start attending."

And I myself have said on cold, rainy miserable mid-week games that I'd rather sit home and watch the WBB game on LHN rather than struggle through rush hour traffic when people are driving like maniacs in the rain.

Nailed it! Between traffic and parking you will find an awful lot of people who just aren't going to hassle with it when it is on TV.

So, we don't hear the same things wrt the football team. People go to football games because they are events. It's not about whether it was on tv, but more about if you were "there". For whatever reason women's basketball is not an event. UT needs to better promote their women's basketball (looking at you CDC). They've got the right coach, and are attracting great players. They are, and will continue to be fun to watch. Need to grab the hearts of the students.

Actually, it's ironic you talk about football and events. When CDC arrived, he looked at the numbers of football attendees and openly talked about how to make it more of an event. He explicitly said, "We need to give them a reason to leave their living rooms and tvs and come down to stadium" Thus, he started and has been constantly expanding "Longhorn Blvd", with food trucks, carnival games, pre and post game concerts.

For the first time in many years, they've started back up the kids club where they put a bounce house, face painting, and small kids games back in the practice facility. Those were active in the Jody/Gail years, but stopped in the midst of the Karen years.

Well, speaking for myself, I now prefer to watch football on TV over "being there". Your overall point probably still stands though.
