Texas vs Houston In The CBI

CBI is a joke. Barnes probably gets a bonus if he takes the team to a post-season tourney. Truly BULL-S...

Texas produces many top HS players. Barnes has seldom tried to keep them at home. He has seldom been able to recruit them when Duke or Kentucky wants them.

Barnes elevated the program. We should tank him and give him his diploma and suggest he find a job elsewhere. It's a bit of a risk, but he has demonstrated that he cannot do the job anymore.

You can make an argument that the #64 seed in the Tournament was contending for the national championship too.

1. Costanza makes the point I make yet again. Without cheating, those instate basketball players will choose Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, etc. EVERY TIME. Basketball players in general will choose those schools every time. Barnes actually has the ability to recruit top 100 players. Again, does anyone grow up wanting to play basketball at Texas?

2. Donovan at Florida has been to the NIT 4 times. Most of y'all would have fired him before the 2005-2006 season. The Link

3. Let's follow NBHorn7's logic. The only Texas teams to ever make the NCAA finals were 1966 UTEP (who was the only all black team at the time), 1983 Houston and 1984 Houston. So only three teams have ever contended for a title from this state in history with the last one being almost 30 years ago!?!?!?! Following NBHorn7's flawed logic, basketball in this state is more hopeless then i even realized.

4. Stephen F. Austin lost tonight. There is one less Texas team in the postseason. We are not a basketball state. Football is king. Rick Barnes is actually able to convince top talent to come here, just like Billy Donovan does at Florida. Billy donavan went to the NIT two years in a row after winning back to back basketball titles BECAUSE FLORIDA IS NOT A BASKETBALL STATE EITHER. I guess that was a negative trend, he had lost his ability to coach, and Florida should have fired him. Billy Donovan, like Rick Barnes, will have bad years because Florida is not an elite basketball school and will not contend for a national title every year. What you want at a non elite basketball program (aka Texas) is a coach that actually makes you a contender every so often. As Joe2005 pointed out, Barnes has built contenders here multiple times. Joe2005 has also explained why the 2012-2013 basketball season ended in the CBI. Rick Barnes has proven he can build a Texas basketball team that can contend for a national title. He will do so again. Rick Barnes is the most successful coach in Texas Basketball history and gives us our best shot to win.

5. Hook 'em Horns! Let's beat cougar high!

So when is Barnes going to win even one national championship?

Barnes then could go to the NIT for the rest of his life.

Somehow Donovan did win those championships in his football is king state.

Since football is king here shouldn't the state of Texas be littered with national championships in football, somehow it's not.

I mean Texas is the only Texas school to win one since players wore leather helmets and schools just claimed them whether they really won one or not.

I guess football is in rough shape here too. I mean OU and Alabama have both won more national championships than all the Texas schools combined counting those won in leather helmets.

Saban alone has won as many national championships as
UT.

How can we possibly compete with that?

Well maybe SMU can because they are throwing all those mega bucks into their program.

Baseball is King!

It's as rational as saying we have competed for multiple national championships in basketball.

Are you going to throw in Penders trips too?

Which reminds me this is the exact same argument made about him. He is the most successful coach in our history.
We shouldn't get rid of him because we shouldn't expect anything better. By this logic he would still be here if not for his off the court transgressions and there would never have been a Rick Barnes at Texas

For the record, I think on balance, Barnes has done a good job at UT. This last year, not so much, but what coach in any sport at any level has suceeded at the highest level?

He's got a young squad, and yes, the pressure is on next year to improve to get back to a Big Dance caliber team.

To compare, though, Calipari's UK team, which won the NCAA title last year, just went to the NIT as #1 seed and got bounced by Richard Morris (or something like that).

UK, per the ESPN scroll has committments from 6 of the top 20 high school players in the country.

The REAL pressure is on Calipari --- one of the 2 or 3 top tradition basketball programs, losing in the first round in the NIT, and now getting 6 of the top 20 talent available?

I'm not apologizing for a ****** 2012-13 from Barnes' squad, just trying to put in perspective what REAL basketball programs endure as well.

IMHO, compared to Mack or Barnes, Garrido is currently the biggest embarassment --- Texas baseball should rule without question. And they sucked last year and they suck this year.

So did we contend for the CBI Championship I need a clarification here?

We were in the "Sweet Sixteen" of this prestigious tournament
after all.

Where have those that could clear this up for me gone?

Listened to it on the radio. Looking over the stat line, Sheldon McClellan once again sucks at shooting. UH is actually a decent team and they got snubbed by the NIT based on some of their losses to bad teams, but they took good teams to OT this year.

There's absolutely no reason for our lack of offensive consistency, especially with Kabongo back in the lineup. It's almost as though Sheldon gets it in his head that he "has" to put the team on his back, despite the obvious fact that the rest of the team was doing pretty well without him. Julian Lewis played a great game and was in control.

We've got to turn it around by recruiting people who can actually put a ball in the basket. No more defensive projects. No more unrecruited "sparkplug" energy dudes. Someone who actually shot 50 percent in high school and can add to the scoreboard. Now.

From Penthouse several years ago to Outhouse more recently.... this loss, this tournament and season are new lows for this program.

First losing season since Tommy P's last year. It was a great run but it had to end at some point.

You people are just spoiled and should blindly accept like the lemmings we are suppose to be this "slight" downturn in Texas athletics.

I am uphauled by your arragant sense of entitlement attitudes. Typical of Texas fans.

We are the Joneses but we can't expect to win all the time because it's bad for us. Dodds said so, so you know it's true.

Though it seems that our coaches are never spoiled by their huge salaries and expect those checks to keep coming no matter the quality of the product they produce and ticket prices keep going up, parking, Longhorn Foundation dues, etc.........

We're Texas! We embrace mediocrity as long as the money keeps rolling in.
