Texas vs Gonzaga 3/29/24 Sweet Sixteen

Texas shot 50% including 50% beyond the arc and 80% at the line but my favorite stat is holding the #1 three-point shooting team to 4-22 (18.2%) while Texas was 5-10

Vic never took off his coat!

Never expected such a dominant performance, a shining example of how Vic's defense can wear down a team. Doubt that Gonzaga has ever clanged so many bricks or thrown up so many airballs. We were impressive. Guess those 6 am runs around Memorial Stadium are paying off. Happy to see so many players get playing time in such an important game.

Watched most of Stanford and NCState and thought we could beat either. NCSt looked slow to me, then started playing with more energy and hitting 3s in the 4qtr. Stanford couldn't seem to respond. Bring 'em on!

:hookem2:

It's going to be Gonzaga vs NC State.

Great TEAM win! Those are the sweetest ones to me. Especially when several bench players are called upon to contribute on the court during important stretches of the game and they do so to help their teammates earn the win.

Game on Easter Sunday will be at 2 PM Central time on ABC.

ABC has been good to Texas as of late.

Beat UConn in women's hoops.

Football beat Okie State for Big 12 championship.

Women's volleyball beat Nebraska for national championship.

Booker has 6. Gaston has 6. Faye has… checks notes…8 :yikes: Did not see that coming. And yet we won. As Vic said, the most important stat for Booker is the W.

Amo to the rescue!

Holding Gonzaga - who averages 81 points per game - to 47. Are you effing kidding me??? Shay and Shaylee are just unbelievable because that last one is on them. Wow.

ELITE 8 Baby!!!!!

Wow at Gonzaga’s press conference their players refused to give credit to Texas one bit and kept saying they took themselves out of the game. Their coach basically did the same only a little more subtly. Watch it and contrast it with Currie and Alabama’s PC.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like that and I sure don’t have any respect for how they handled it.
So when Vic says they don’t get respect and have an edge, this is exhibit A

As a geezer horn who has lived all over this country, may I assure you that a significant percentage of Americans today hate the State of Texas and therefore by association, also hate The University of Texas, whether they no anything about our University or not.

The lead dog always gets bit in the ***. That’s what gives me the greatest pleasure…the profound disappointments of out haters.

“ When you’re in love with a beautiful woman…you go it alone.” I expect no quarter from the media or our upcoming new opponents. Just wait until they see our teams next year!

I'm yelling at the TV, "STFU and give us the play by play!!!"
Even the camera work was the pits. Little to no replays and camera change ups. And the sound was also crazy. I could barely hear the refs whistles but I could hear Vic yelling at Amo like he was in my living room. And the whole time the announcers might as well have been talking about the weather for all they were worth. And normally I like both of them. It was very odd and very frustrating.

Great win Horn Fans.

No excuses. You sped the Zags up to the point that they could not even hit the few wide-open shots they did have. Ole Miss did the same thing last year to the Zags in the first round and the result was eerily similar.

Like I said in the earlier post, for the Zags to have a chance to win they had to score more than 70 points. Vic and your team ensured that did not happen, hence to chance to win for the Zags tonight.

Don't take the press conference too hard, the Zag team and coaching staff knew they were out-classed tonight. The Zags are a bunch of 3*s that have gotten through were they are by hard work, 5 years of development and great teamwork. Sometimes, all of that is not good enough, when a much taller, more athletic team comes into town. They needed a game like they played against Stanford or Utah to win, and your defense made sure that did not happen. I think the entire team is suitably embarrassed by their performance tonight and that was reflected in their press conference tonight.

Good luck Horns, in the rest of the tournament.

It’s no wonder the players couldn’t muster any sportsmanship because their coach couldn’t even say Congrats to Texas, or well coached team ….nothing. I guarantee you’ll never see Vic Schaefer act that way even in the most crushing loss he will congratulate the winning team and compliment them for the things they did well to win.

We have far better athletes than those typically found in the WCC. We are far more capable of hounding their three point shooters while limiting damage from the one girl in the middle who could play.

You represent your school well sir. I know that there were hurt feelings and what we expect to hear is overridden by emotion. Thanks for coming by to visit and interact with us.
