Texas vs DePaul 10/30/22

Yes :bounce1::bounce2:

I took note in one of the media interviews posted that Vic made the point that this is still an exhibition. He needs to balance the desire to win against the normal purposes of exhibition games. So I expect to see a lot of the new players and to see different player combinations on the floor. I think it is going to take a while for the team chemistry to develop and for Vic to get something that looks like settled playing rotations.

I am disappointed that more tickets have not been sold. Vic said about 3,000 sold the other day. I just went out to the seating chart. It looks like it is going to be mostly the Longhorn WBB faithful.

I was thinking the same but based on what I’ve seen on twitter today the exhibition is finally getting the attention it deserves. I saw many popular accounts for wbb post about it as well as sports illustrated and a few former football players. The word has definitely been spread like it should’ve been so I expect that number of 3,000 to shoot up drastically. I expect it to get around 8k or sell out. Might even have to expand the arena.

I saw on Twitter that Buzz Williams and Michael Huff will match Vic's pledge to donate $1,000 for every 1,000 fans. I imagine more will follow. Sports Illustrated retweeted the game info, so it does seem to be picking up some steam. I'm looking forward to seeing a little baseball on Sunday before walking over to Moody for the basketball game.

Michael Huff is matching $1,000 per 1,000 fans and Buzz Williams MBB coach at A&M is matching. Great cause. I hope Moody is packed.

Looking ahead to the game, DePaul's roster is not very tall (6'1" is the tallest player). So having Taylor likely out is not really an issue. We may end up seeing a nice shootout.

That’s good because Faye has to learn to pick up fewer fouls while still playing strong. I loved it when an interviewer said Texas players would have their hands full with Aneesah Morrow. Sonya jumped right in and said Aneesah is going to have her hands full too. Spoken with a big smile and a twinkle in her eyes. Competitive in the best way. Prior to and after that exchange Sonya was serious and ever so proper.

Just looked at the ticket chart and just based on the attendance of the mens game trust Vic might be disappointed at the attendance tomorrow. Some may wait to buy their ticket the day off but as of now it’s not looking good.

Based on the cause this game is supporting, and the amount of money floating around Austin, it's incredibly disappointing that this was not an immediate sellout and that more mega-donors haven't stepped forth.

The sellout deal is negligible. $10 per ticket, or $6 for gen admission won't add up to much. But the fact that UT athletics hasn't found a way to get more deep pocketed people to help with the donations, and pre-game promotion (which would help with attendance) is disappointing indeed.

That’s an issue for most non-revenue sports in college athletics. But if the men’s game wasn’t a sellout, why would anyone think that the women’s game would be? I’m not disappointed because a charity game isn’t a sellout. I’ll be disappointed if the games that actually matter aren’t sellout’s or just good attendance in general.

I agree with both statements. I’m not surprised that it’s not a sellout but I’m also upset that more people are not going. To my understanding the men’s had a good turn out and the tickets was like $25 but the women are ranked higher, better cause in my opinion, game will be on tv( might be a negative but should be positive), &cheaper ticket and people aren’t going.

Well, seems questions about offense have been answered. Faye is a rebound machine - love that - and she can score too. This bunch is going to be fun to watch.

What an audience of 3465 looks like (but to be fair, there are more people behind than in front)

I hadn't realized the game was being televised. I thought since it was an exhibition that it wouldn't be worthy of LHN - like Friday's Wayland Baptist is not being televised.

Here's some nuggets that maybe LHN didn't show.

Vic was complementary on great defensive moves. Not something that stole the ball, but something like denying the ball by poking it out of bounds. He was incensed at players not being in position. Ball gets poked out by Gaston, she heads to the bench and Vic gives her a handshake to show he appreciated that effort. On the resulting inbound, the DePaul player is trying to find someone to inbound and a player swings into view. The guarding player is late to follow and the inbound is easy. Vic is furious and turns to the bench and motions to [I can't remember who] very aggressively to go in for Shaylee NOW! It was Shaylee who didn't stay with her player on the inbounds.

Khadija Faye's injury was interesting. She's bent over and I thought her eye got poked. Then having her arms around the trainers struggle to get to our bench and past it? But the camera didn't show was that as they were headed to the locker room, she bent over and couldn't walk any more. That looked ominous. And then she sat down at the very edge of the court where it drops off to gray concrete. And then, she flipped onto her stomach, they touch some part of the back of her leg and then she flips on her but, they get her up and then she can gingerly walk past the black curtains to the locker room. And then, later the game, she comes walking slowly back to the bench with a water bottle in her hand, sits on the bench and puts some giant heating pad on her right knee. And then, in the 4th she's in the game!

What the?

I'll take a double/double from Hadi every day. Whether she starts or not, she is our de facto center.

Taylor may be a great center, won't know 'til we see her, but she has her work cut out for her to pry that away from Hadi.

P.S. There is NO WAY that Amina is 2 inches taller than Jak. Jak may be a half-inch taller.

By the way, who is the player on the bench on the far left?

Player X, Codio, Guitierrez, Masudi, Jones

Faye had a muscle spasm according to Vic

Very impressive. The D was better than I expected. Faye stood out in an area of need. Didn’t realize how athletic and skilled she was. Could be a really fun year.

I think the transfers are an upgrade (and we didn't even see Jones). Sorry Audrey, loved your hustle but just being honest.

And the freshmen look like they have a lot of potential. Loved the athleticism.
