It will be interesting to see what the rotation looks like, given Vic's obvious discontent with the OU game effort.

Texas dropped to #4 in Net Rankings and Cincinnati is 102.

Cincinnati comes in at 10-8 overall and 2-5 in conference with wins against Central Florida and OKState.

Their best win other than OSU was against an unranked Kentucky team back in November.

They average
  • 62 ppg vs TX 87
  • 40 rebounds vs TX 43
  • 27% from the 3 taking 15 pg vs TX 38%/12
  • 17 TOs pg vs TX 14
6’1” senior Julian Hayes averages 13 ppg and 8 rebounds. No one else is in double figures. They have a 6’5” and two 6’4”s but the only one that registers is 6’4” Melia Williams who averages 9 ppg and 4 rebounds.

If we were to drop this, Vic would have to admit that he has lost control of this team. But he hasn't and we won’t lose. See you Saturday #InTheMood

Despite the Baylor and Kansas State losses, I was feeling pretty good about Texas until the Oklahoma loss. Texas needs to punch early and punch often to renew my faith. Anything other than a lopsided win is still gonna have me biting my nails.

I don't know if this game can show us too much about how Texas is going to be able and willing to address its defensive issues. Cinci is not a bad team. They have a Massey Rating of 103. My impressions is they play hard. But they seriously lack offensive talent and skills. The team is 8th (mid-pack) in points allowed per game in Big 12 games to date and dead last in points scored per game. Texas is first in points scored and fourth in points allowed. In this game Texas could simply outscore the opponent. The Bearcats defense is not good enough to overcome their offensive woes.

I think the tell will be how few (or many) points we hold Cincinnati. Our scoring offense remains one of the best in the nation at #6.

Statistical rankings are valuable when looking at matchups. Net rankings are also meaningful as many teams play tougher schedules. But national rankings don’t hold much value outside of marketing opportunities because they don’t account for match-up issues. On any given night, a top 25 team can drop one to an unranked or RV team. It’s disappointing to the fans, but it should be expected.

OU exposed an unexpected weakness, but we matchup very well against Cincinnati. As I posted on another thread, to put things into perspective:

#10 Texas 18-3
#3 Colorado 16-3
#8 UConn 17-3
#9 LSU 18-3
#12 Ohio 16-3

So Jak gets in the game and turns it over. Vic pulls her, camera shows him lecturing her on the bench. At this point in the game, why? Give her another couple of minutes restore some confidence, perhaps score or be mistake free for a minute. The psychology of one and done escapes me... I know he has a short fuse and expects perfection, but how many times can a player be humiliated before she tunes out completely? Your thoughts welcomed.

Andrea mentioned their lengthy practice schedule since the OU game ... sounds like and looks like the team is exhausted. In Vic, I trust, know that the Geno/Pat methods are similar and certainly don't know what the mood is in the locker room... but now seems to be the time for some strategic and thoughtful coaching. If we show up in a funk in Waco, we'll be embarrassed on national TV. (Not even considering that we might lose today.)

Ok, Jak starting the 3rdQ and playing well ... shows what I know,

We're fortunate that we caught Cincy for the game without Booker. But, honestly, while the lower FG% makes sense, I was surprised (pleasantly) that TOs were kind of lower. I thought those would be REALLY high today.

Still surprised to see the lack of playing time for the bench - but it also was a closer game.

Like the post primarily for the last sentence.

Jak had her second impactful game in the last three. She is earning trust and more minutes, IMO.

Yes I am. Ya'll should be pissed still that Texas lost to OU at home.
Oh I am. I’m furious. Instead of moving on, three days later I’m wallowing in anger, posting bad things about the team, rooting for KState to win, picking fights with fans… no wait. That’s not me. Who is it that I’m thinking about? :idk:

Substituting with 34 seconds left in the game is ridiculous. Not only is it insulting and humiliating, but what gets accomplished by putting someone in the game when they don't even have enough time left to do anything?

That loss to OU seriously dented Texas' credibility, so "moving on" as you eloquently termed it is your solution to the trainwreck last Wed. Why would anyone root for a KSU loss just to see Texas back in the race to cover up something Texas clearly should have been able to win had they taken cared of business against an unranked team? In fact, the KSU win strengthens our loss to a higher ranked opponent. You should be grateful we get another shot at them after Baylor. If we win that game (and beat BU too), that restores some credibility to a respectable season. You've seemed to discount the fact that BU has our number the past 15 years, and all I see is general apathy here whenever we play them and lose, again. We'll continue to agree to disagree. Your brand of sunshine pumping is tiring and so aggy like. :coolnana:

Have we had any updates on Gaston? She was really having a good time on the sidelines today. Seemed much more like her old self than I have seen in awhile.

Uhhhh. I saw that substituting with 34 seconds gave the fans a chance to give applause to the two players who hustled for 39:26 of the game. In fact, Shaylee was headed past Vic when he put his arms around her waist, stopped her and told her (it seems) that he was proud of the way she played point for the team today.
