Texas vs. Baylor Game 3

NBHorn7

Pimp Daddy
Baylor's other starter is injured so the Head Coach's son is starting again as he did last week.

So we have the pitching advantage as we have every conference Sunday game this season and have yet to win one.

Oh boy we get the Baylor network on Fox for the television today. I can always watch everybody else's network it seems.

Hall leads off and flies out to center.

B. Marlow hitting second in another line up shake up K's swinging for out two.

Hinojosa also K's swinging to retire the side and the K's keep coming for Texas.

Baylor comes to bat with no score.

Thornhill gives up a ground ball single up the middle to the lead off hitter.

A K looking is out one.

A taylor made dp ground ball to short is one as it goes 6-4-3 to retire the side.

No score after an inning of play.

Payton leads of the second for Texas and he lines one to right and the right fielder slides and makes the grab for out one.

Weis and takes one in the back to put a man on.

Felts grounds one to third that is booted 10 feet to his left and then he can't pick it up and the error puts two on.

Shaw with a weak ground to third for out two that moves the runners up to second and third.

McElroy still at first today flies routinely to center to end the inning and do what Texas has done all season strand runners in scoring position.

No score to the bottom of two.

Thornhill in the second again gives up a single up the middle to the lead off hitter.

A fly ball to Payton is out one.

The runner steals second on a low pitch that Felts couldn't get anything on the throw down to second.

A liner right to B. Marlow at second is out two.

A K looking retires the side and ends the threat. Our good buddy of many games at the Disch Kelly Nutt is behind the plate and has his usual strike zone of giving the outside pitch.

I remember him breaking in with Bible and Chrystal.

No score after two.

Ty Marlow leads off the third and pops out foul to third for out one.

Hall flies out to left for the second out.

B. Marlow with a little comebacker and Texas goes in order quickly.

Bottom of three and still no score.

Thornhill in the third gets the lead off hitter for the first time today on a fly ball to right.

Another fly ball to Payton is out two just into foul ground.

A soft liner to center goes for a single to put a man on.

A sharp single to right sends the runner all the way to third and put runners on the corners with two down.

Orf the .400 hitter for Baylor rips one to left that goes for a double and scores a run to make it 1-0 Baylor and put runners on second and third.

A two out rally and here comes Skip for a meeting.

He heads back to the dugout and a ground ball up the middle is cut off by Hinojosa and his throw is in time to end the inning.

After three complete Baylor has the much dreaded 1-0 lead.

Hinojosa leads off the fourth with a ground ball behind the bag and the long throw gets him for out one as Hinojosa limps to the dugout.

Payton again this time hits a ball sharply to left that gets through for a single.

Weis singles to right to put two on as Payton has to stop at second.

Felts with a slow roller to short is thrown out as the runners advance to second and third.

Shaw up and it's the same story again can we get a hit with men in scoring position and honestly as expected the answer is no as he flies out to center.

Two more stranded and I add two more to my new category I came up with the other day "meaningless singles."

Baylor leads 1-0 to the bottom of the fourth.

A ground out to second starts the fourth for Thornhill.

A K swinging is out two.

A fly ball to center retires the side in order.

After four completed Baylor leads 1-0.

McElroy leads off and flies out to center for out one.

Ty Marlow flies to deep left and the left fielder catches it at the wall for out two.

Hall pops out short and Texas goes down in order again.

We may not score again till Tuesday night it seems.

That's at least 14 innings now of scoreless baseball by the Texas offense.

Halfway through now Baylor leads 1-0.

Thornhill out for the fifth and gives up his third lead off single of the game to right field.

A sac bunt attempt and Felts goes to second with a high throw that pulls Marlow off the bag and it's an error to put two on and expect another bunt.

The bunt is back to Thornhill and he goes to third with a good throw and gets the force out for out one.

A wild pitch that bounces in front of the plate moves the runners over to second and third and out comes Skip again.

A line drive goes over the drawn in infield and scores both runners and then Felts can't get the ball out of his mitt and the batter advances to second. The error and wild pitch really changed this inning. Baylor with a huge 3-0 lead now with our lack of offense.

Orf is intentionally walked to put two on and set a potential double play.

A hit and run line out to Payton in right results in a 9U-4 double play to end the inning.

Baylor with the large 3-0 lead after five played.

B. Marlow flies to shallow left for out one.

Hinojosa lines one to right and another diving catch by the right fielder Orf is out two.

Payton walks to end the out string and put a man on with two away.

Weis Weis singles to right and put two on as Payton and Weis reach again.

Pitching Coach out for Baylor the starter Smith who is not the regular starter may be tiring.

Sixteen consecutive scoreless innings on the line here for Felts.

Felts singles to left and the drought is finally broken and Payton scores to make it 3-1.

Shaw flies out to center to end the inning.

At least we scored as Baylor leads 3-1 to the bottom of six.

Thornhill still out there in the sixth gets a pop out to second to start the inning.

A squibber to third is out two.

Another slow grounder this time to short is the final out of the inning.

Baylor leads 3-1 after six.

NB, I appreciate your coverage. Man, how I wish I was watching a game at Clark Field again...this is painful.

McElroy leads off the seventh and flies into the gap in left center and it's run down by the left fielder for out one.

Ty Marlow flies out to center for out two.

Hall swings at a pitch that hit a foot in front of the plate and it gets away and reaches on the K. Maybe we have found a new offensive strategy here the sacrafice strike out.

B. Marlow singles to right as Hall goes to third with two away.

Daddy is coming out to the mound and says says litterally "Son." He leaves his kid in to face Hinojosa.

Hinojosa with a ground ball to deep short and the throw is ruled late on a close play.

Anyway its an infield hit and it scores another run to make it 3-2 and here comes daddy to get "Junior" this time as they bring in a lefty Ashby to face Payton.

Payton up with a chance to tie or take the lead, but he grounds out to second to end the threat and the inning.

Anybody can have a two out rally, but it takes the Texas offense this year to have a "three out rally."

Baylor leads 3-2 now to the stretch.

Thornhill continues on in the seventh and hits the lead off man on the shoulder to put the lead mann on.

Wes Tunnel comes in to run for him and that has to be Lee Tunnel's kid and I remember him pitching for Baylor.

A sac bunt moves him up to second for out one.

Skip back to the mound and I bet he is bringing a lefty in to face the lefty hitter and he is as here comes Duke from the pen.

A ground ball to first is the second out as the runner moves to third.

Duke does his job getting another lefty hitter on a K looking to retire the side.

Baylor leads 3-2 after seven innings.

Weis leads off and flies out to left for the first out of the eighth.

Felts pops out to second for the second out.

Despite what the clueless announcer that is not Shaw, but Silver pinch hitting for him and he grounds a single to left.

Stell comes in to run for Silver.

McElroy who hasn't had a hit since I don't know when K's swinging to end the inning.

Bottom of the eighth with Baylor up still 3-2.

Knebel comes in to pitch the eighth and Stell goes into left.

A fly ball to center is out one.

A bloop to center and Hall dives and missed it and it's a double.

A pop up to shallow center is caught by Hinojosa for out two.

A walk puts two on with two away.

A single to center scores the runner from second to make it 4-2.

Another single to left makes it 5-2. They are killing Knebel's fastball which he is elevating.

A fly ball to center finally ends the inning.

Baylor leads now 5-2 and it's probably too much to come back from for this offense in all honesty as we move to the ninth.

Baylor brings in the closer Bare for the third day in a row.

Ty Marlow leads off the ninth and K's swinging for out one.

Hall also K's swinging for out two.

B. Marlow walks on four pitches to put a man on.

Hinojosa swings at ball four in the dirt and the Bare K's the side as Baylor wins 5-2 to sweep the series.

The first sweep of Texas this season puts the Horns in firm possession of last place as Tech beat OU today 9-3.
Only the third sweep of Texas by Bayor ever.

No way to sugar coat it, this team is really bad. I guess the pitching faultered today with the two run explosion by our offense.

This is only made worse by watching this on a Baylor telecast on Fox and watching the pre and post game stuff.

This team / program apparently needs some one to lead with energy and emotion,,,,just doesn't seem to be there!

It would help to have talent too. If you haven't recruited players who can hit, no amount of leadership, energy or emotion will help you. Hitting is a pretty mechanical thing. You either have the eyes, hands, reflexes, instincts and skills to hit, or you don't. The rest is run production, and drawing walks and base-running smarts and all that. But none of that matters when you don't hit the ball for average or power. We don't have people who can hit the ball.

The inability to recruit a team of hitters who are in even the top-200 in the nation, at a program like Texas, points to nothing short of unbelievable ineptitude by Augie and his staff. When it is a running story for 3 years in a row, it is not just a case of a mistake or two in judgment in selecting players. It rather has to be systemic deficiencies in how we recruit. It needs to be addressed. If Augie isn't willing to do what it takes, he better call it a day.

I'll probably rant in more detail at some future point but I've never seen a Texas team with a worse approach at the plate than this one. They can't come to UT this unprepared. This has to somehow be fostered or unlearned. Basic, basic, fundamentals not shown from strike count approach to batting technique to ball placement (or attempt at ball placement). And if they manage to get on base, then thrown out at 1st with the reaction time of a arthritic 14 year old cat? Come on. Watch the feet!!!

If something isn't done and quick, this will continue into next year. It's much worse than it looks on TV. I'll root for my Horns but something has to change.

Had to go to a wedding this afternoon, in the past I would have been sneaking peaks at phone to catch score, didn't check once today. That makes me sad.
