Payton leads off the second with a shot right back to the mound and the pitcher snags it on the line. If he was left handed it would have been a hit, but itls out one.
Felts with a deep fly ball in the gap and it's just out of reach of the left fielder for a double.
Ty Marlow grounds out to third for the second out as Felts remains at second.
B. Marlow walks to put two on.
McElroy long time no see is at first tonight as part of the line up changes after the many errors and near errors last night.
He looks at a fast ball right down the middle for some reason and it's another K looking that retires the side and strands two runners.
In the fourth Hinojosa leads off and grounds one up the middle and the shortstop falls and makes a throw from the ground that is not in time and it's an infield hit to lead off.
Payton pops out to third on a 3-1 pitch for the first out.
Felts works a walk on a full count pitch to put two on.
Ty Marlow K's swinging for out two.
B. Marlow drives one to the wall in right where it is caught to retire the side. He seems to do that a lot either just short or just foul
Peters starts the fifth by hitting the lead off man on a full count pitch to put a man on.
A hit and run single to left and Johnson comes up throwing in left and throws a strike to third and he is called out, but he was in there and maybe the old make up call is rearing it's head from the walk last inning.
This comes to mind because the call was made by the home plate ump who had rotated on the play and made the call. It's out one though.
A strike em out and throw em out double play ends the inning.
Weis leads off the sixth and K's for the third time tonight this time swinging for out one and a hat trick.
Hinojosa also K's looking as he heads toward first twice at 3-1 and 3-2 and then heads to the bench for out two.
Payton is hit by a pitch and puts a man on and again you might consider a steal here if we can not get picked or swing at the first pitch.
Felts singles to put two on, but why not let Payton try to steal and then that single would have scored him.
Pitching coach out for Baylor, but Stone stays in.
Ty Marlow swings at a bad pitch and K's and this what is so frustrating about this team. Somebody was saying this teams was hitting better than last year.
The one stat we may lead the league in is meaningless singles that don't score any runs and this team strikes out way too much. That was the 10th K tonight.
Peters out for his sixth inning of work gets the first hitter on a fly to shallow left for out one.
A ground ball to second is out two.
A line drive at Payton in right and he misses it and it goes all the way to the wall for a triple I guess. Payton just lost it in the lights and it was almost a inside the parker. Hall saved the run for now by getting to it quickly.
Skip out to the mound again, but Peters stays in.
This time a fly ball to right is caught by Payton to retire the side.
McElroy up to bunt probably faces the new right pitcher Mahalec.
McElroy not bunting and walks to put two on and now the bunt is in order for sure.
Johnson takes a perfect strike and then fouls a bunt attempt off and then takes curve that splits the plate for a K looking for out one. This team is confusing.
Then Hall with a comebacker that is a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning and that is the Texas season in an inning right there.
Weis leads off the eighth and grounds out to third for out one.
Hinojosa works a full count walk to reach.
Here comes the Baylor coach to maybe bring a lefty to face Payton if the ump ever goes out to the mound.
The righty stays in and I'm a bit surprised.
Payton flies out to left for the second out.
Felts singles to the gap in right center and Hinojosa goes around to third.
Again though will it be another meaningless single.
Ty Marlow up again with runners in scoring position.
He K's swinging for the third time to strand more runners and yes make it another meaningless single.
I am sorry to say this. But if Texas baseball finishes last in the league (unthinkable, really!), misses NCAA again, and barely has even a winning season, Augie should do the right thing and just resign. I have tremendous respect for him, but I think he doesn't have the energy to build us back up from the pits we have sunk to. I don't for a minute think that he is incapable of it. I just don't know if he wants to put in all the effort at his age to do it, nor do I want to see everybody jumping on him in the worst way next year when we are again bad. I would rather see the legend just leaving, like Darrel Royal did. Nobody will fault him if he did that.
