Texas vs Baylor 12/30/2023

With Vic only playing Gisella Maul 4 minutes against Jackson State, I had a feeling she'd see less time against Baylor. She's actually shooting around 45% from 3-point country; we will need her offense. Wondering if she's also nicked up.

Amina with her 17 points would typically be considered a bonus from an inside player. who was not projected to be a starter prior to the season. Too bad we only got 2, 4, and 6 points from Faye, Gaston, and Moore, respectively. How does that happen against an undersized Baylor team? They didn't appear to be in foul trouble. Guess Baylor playing so many guards created defensive mismatches for us.

I’m anxious to get Taylor Jones back and for Deyona to get back to 100%. A-Mo had some good minutes today which is encouraging.

Overall I didn’t come away from this game feeling discouraged. I’d like to think the team gained some confidence today even with the loss.

I am just so frustrated that this team still seems to be snakebit injury wise. Just doesn’t seem fair and I really feel for those players that are battling those injuries because you know how badly they want to be playing and contributing

I gotta give a shout out to Amina. She battled and played well today once she settled down. Amo looks like she's starting to come around some... Gaston looks a bit timid.

I did not understand why Dee did not play more. But then I am short more than a few basketball IQ points of being qualified to question Vic’s game plans and coaching. I really feel pretty good The team had their chances to win. As pointed out by a few - free throws! Also a number of momentum destroying bad possessions down the stretch. It didn’t help that the team spotted Baylor about 10 points to start the game. The team will only get better. And not many teams in conference are anywhere near Baylor’s level.

Still frustrated with Gaston. Early foul trouble and reverted back to missing at the basket.
I was a huge Jack fan but she still looks lost on so many occasions.

Dont know how much Taylor would have helped today. Certainly offensively but would have been a liability on defense.
But again , we won't see this overall quickness again.

This irrelevant for us, but I would like to see Baylor play against a really good zone to see if that would help cut down the zillion points they made down low.

I would have liked to have seen Amo and Amina play together in the 2H. Although the box score isn't posted, I doubt Amo got more than 2 minutes of playing time in the 2H. Amo provided much needed energy, emotion and scoring in the 1H. I thought she could have come in for Hadi for a few series.

I'm not one for moral victories but I was proud the way our team fought back and battled. This group has been playing without Rori and Taylor for only two games and almost beat a top 10 team. This game should serve us well as we get deeper into conference play.

I agree completely.

I was thinking a few things:

1. We're going to lose
2. But, we're in this close because of Vic's coaching acumen
3. Going to have many more nights of this type of play
4. God (not Baylor) God, how many 3's can they make?

Watching this was difficult because you can truly see how much Vic adores Rori. Hopefully, he and Rori will feel better in the days to come.
What makes it even tougher is she will not be eligible for a medical RS, and I'm concerned that type of injury might not allow her to be back to full strength until early 2025. Hard to imagine that we might only get to see 3 1/2 more mos. of the best PG who has come through Texas in a while. Just awful, and it happened in a shoot-a-round no less. ACL injuries are ruining the sport.

I'm pretty sure the parameters of the medical redshirt have some leeway and can be appealed.

I've even been wondering if perhaps Rori skips next season altogether. If the "one year rule" holds true then she still wouldn't be at full tilt until sometime after she actually returned to the court. I remember with Annette Smith... she was injured late in the season and skipped the entire next season to rehab.

:e-thinking: Interesting thought. I recall when Lashann Higgs tore her ACL during her junior year. She struggled to return to form the year after her injury. The bulky brace restricted her speed and movement. It wasn't until she played pro in Europe that she regained her speed, agility and quickness.

Reality is that it takes most players at least 1.5 years to get back to full speed. Rori taking a medical RS next year may indeed be the best thing.

A top transfer would probably be better than an 80% Harmon. And Vic could very likely land a top 10 senior transfer knowing they won't be competing with Rori.

But this still just makes me sick. Why does it have to happen to Rori, and why does it have to happen right before the game with the ******* from Wacko.

What is the matter with Bryanna Preston who is Point guard in the 2024 Recruiting class and will be here next year. I hear people moaning and groaning about needing a replacement for Rori! It sound like you guys know a lot more than what Vic does??

I honestly forgot we signed a PG, but grateful to be reminded! I’m hoping she will be one of those that flew under the radar as to how good she really is. She certainly has an opportunity to show out if she’s up for the challenge.

She is said to be an excellent defensive player.

After watching Vic’s post game presser , I’m still heartbroken but confident we’re going to be just fine. I’m predicting competing for conference title and being a very dangerous second weekend tournament team. In Vic I trust.

Hook ‘Em and Happy New Year.

Feel so bad for Rori, the coaches and the team - it's very hard to restructure your team after your are 14 games into the season - Amo and Gaston will eventually get their game legs back - but it's a process - we do have more overall talent this year as compared to last - but there will be some growing pains especially with the upcoming schedule - we still will be a very good team - just have to keep fighting and one game at a time - confidence is going to be key - very unfortunate because this team was already playing at a high level with room to improve

Tomorrow at tech will be a great test to see where we really are and the direction we are headed without Rori! We can’t take them for granted. They have a good team, there will be a big crowd, it’s the game of the year for them and Aaliyah Chavez may be in attendance! They have beat us the last 2 years and it hurts me to see that.
