Texas wins, 2 in a row. Tougher than expected match from last place TCU at their home.

just made a post but it didn't show it up (hope i didn't post on the wrong thread somewhere). great way to close it out. two in a row, let's make it three vs. isu at home. good win horns!

Great game by Nneka and Imani with double-doubles for both. 7 blocks for Imani! Turnovers were reduced in the second half, but they still need to work on taking care of the ball. Take down the Cyclones on Wednesday!

I hate it when TexasSports.com doesn't put the game quotes...have to get them from the opposing team's website,, which is TCU in this case.Texas Head Coach Karen Aston
Opening Statement:

"It was an extremely hard fought game. Both teams played extremely hard. They're both searching and really digging for wins in the Big 12 right now. You can tell by watching us play that we are the youngest teams in the Big 12. We make mistakes. It was a competitive game."

On Natalie Ventress' play Saturday:

"That was a big three that we gave up to Ventress, who hit it at the top of the key. That was a big game changer for us and I think it rattled us a little bit. Ventress went off on us in the second half and that's why I think we struggled a little bit more. They had us strung out between all three of their shooters."

First time I was able to see the Horns play live this season. A couple of things I noticed during the game.

Celina plays ssllooww. She's a freshman and I know this will get better. I seems like she's thinking too much. CELINA JUST PLAY BALL!!

Offense is stagnant A LOT! Watch UCONN and BU tapes to learn how to get the offense moving. I would steal offense plays right from their play book. Our offense drove me crazy all game long. I kept screaming MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!! They literally would just stand still. NOBODY MOVING! And if the ball was in Celina's hand OMG I cringed. She stood dribbling for like 15+ seconds.

Imani is the real deal. She's a freshman playing like a freshman at times. But other times she's a force to be reckon with downlow. Missing those cheapies around the basket reminded me of A. Gayle. Imani hit the gym and practice your layups and post moves. She's a diamond in the rough and once she figures it out watch out Big 12. I also noticed how in the huddle she would give direction and was the most talkative. A leader in the making perhaps.

NNEKA = BEAST! Enough said. If everyone played at her and Empress's energy level that would be GREAT!

Empress I watched her play a lot of high school ball. She is transitioning well. Appears to be one of the defensive stoppers along w/ Nneka. She will need to learn to play defense and not foul. She's a gamer. I think eventually she will become our silent assassin. People will watch her on defense and without noticing she's killing them on offense.

Chas is Chas. But I don't want her to get to comfortable w/ the big girls down low. Find your shot and shoot it! I'm not saying she doesn't shoot it but I want that sense of urgency to come back to her. Keep fighting thru those screens Chas! YOU GOT THIS!!

GiGi - nice p/u to help w/ outside shooting. But she sometimes gets lost, mental lapse whatever you want to call it.

Brady - she was excited her family attended the game so she played a little off but not a bad off. Nerves, excitement, etc.

I think we played 7 players. There 4 or 5 that sat on the bench the whole time. What's up with that? Especially, Kayla, Ronisha and Anne Marie? I know Ashley's hurt. I guess Nadia and Sarah were the other two. I don't understand having warm bodies on the bench and not using them. 5 bench warmers?!?!? SMH. And they might be there for good reason I don't know.

O Tiffany Jackson was at the game and there were a lot of TX fans representing in our BURNT ORANGE.

I enjoyed the game and can't wait to see them at the Big 12 tourny. Thank Goodness they moved it to Dallas instead of KC.

I gotta agree with Rexy.
Celina may not be the fastest player, but she and the others push the ball pretty much on every possession. That's something they practice every day and something they have gotten better at as the season progresses.

Celina does not dribble the ball as much as she initially did. She has a better understanding of the offense, the options available based on the D she sees, and she starts that halfcourt offense going pretty fast if the fast break is not there. What helps as well is that the others also have a better understanding of the offense and they are much more likely to find themselves on the same page, making for a smoother running offense.

All of which shows a lot of promise for the rest of the season.

Thank you Rexy. I agree with your analyses. I've heard others complain that Cee slows it down too much, but usually it's because Karen tells her to ... at least from what I observe. I will also say that we've had our fair share of problems because we force things too fast and that it seems to me a good game has a balance between up tempo and slower & deliberate. Mixing things up keeps folks on their toes.

Gigi is doing great considering how few games she has played in and how few minutes she had in those first couple of games. She will be a bright light for us in the future. She gives us another shooting option that defenses will have to account for.

I was surprised that Sara didn't play in the last two games, but it was pointed out to me that we've finally got some depth (Gigi back in the rotation) and that Nneka and Imani are playing so well together that it is hard to take any of them out, except for breathers. When Gigi comes out, Empress is in for defense. It's really a blessing to finally have healthy players with some experience under their belt who are playing as a team. We can establish a core go-to group for much of the game, and as they play more minutes together they should develop a good rhythm and flow.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one. Celina is slow and our offense is stagnant. We're improving but we're slow and our offense does not move which is why we can't find the open person down low. We move the ball too slow. If we had sharp quick passes and our offense moved somebody is bound to be open.

It's all good. We just see it from two different perspectives. HOOK'EM HORNS!!!

Yes, we do move the ball too slow at times, but it's not necessarily due to Celina. It's the whole team failing to hustle to the screen, position or whatever. I just don't think it's fair to blame the slow offense on Celina. Part of the issue is the players are still thinking about what they are supposed to do or where they are supposed be, so the offense looks herky jerky due to players thinking about where they are supposed to be and then moving, rather than executing the offense in one fluid motion.
