Will be leaving shortly for family obligation but starting this thread for others to fill in.

1 inning in the books and it is 0-0. French is on the mound for Texas and gave up a two out walk and single in the first but got out of the inning with no damage. Horns went three up three down in bottom of first.

Two quick ground outs and a K for French in the top of the second. 0-0 headed to bottom of second.

Bottom Two

UCSB pitcher Pettibone is 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA coming into the game so runs may be at a premium tonight. With our offense that is scary thought.

Payton leads off with a single and first hit of game for Horns;
Hinojosa flies out to right;
Moynihan grounds out to first, Payton advances to second;
Felts grounds out to third.

2 full done 0-0.

French induces three quick ground outs in the top of the third and has retired seven straight.

0-0 to bottom of third.

Bottom Three

McElroy grounds out to third;
Marlow strikes out;
Hall singles to right but is thrown out trying to extend it to a double.

Three full done. 0-0

Top of the fourth and French gets a ground out, fly out to left and then gives up a single to end run of nine straight retired batters. Ground out to Second ends inning though with no damage.

0-0 through 3.5.

Have to head out now, hope the bats can find some life tonight in what looks like a strong pitchers duel.

Someone else (NB you out there?) take us home.

All it took was for FW to leave for the bats to come alive as two
singles and triple by Payton scores a couple and a Hinojosa single
to score another.

Texas takes the lead 3-0 after 4 innings.

French retires the side in order.

Hey Frank it's the "bottom of the fifth" and Texas leads 3-0.

Texas loads the bases with two outs but Hinojosa grounds out to
end the inning.

Texas leads 3-0 after 5 complete.

A one out double and a ground out moves him to third.
Then French delivers a wild pitch to score the run.
French hits the batter for a runner on first and an infield hit puts runners on first and second.
Now a passed ball puts the runners in scoring position.

Finally a ground out ends the inning. Lots of traffic, but only
one run scores.

Texas leads 3-1 to the bottom of the sixth.

Texas loads the bases on three consecutive singles to lead off
the inning including Felts first hit of the year.

Marlow K's for the first out. Hall bloops a single to score a run and
Texas has another major base running blunder. They held up the runner at third, but the runner at second kept coming and Hall kept going to second. It results in a inning ending double
play. Had a chance to blow it open there and messed it up.

Texas leads 4-1 after six innings.

French still on the hill.

Santa Barbara gets a runner on first on a hit, but is thrown out
stealing to end the frame.

Texas leads 4-1 to the bottom of the 7th.

A lead off walk ends the night for the Gaucho pitcher Pettibone.
They bring in a lefty to face Weis and Stell on first.

Weis K's for the first out.
Payton also K's as Stell steals second.
Hinojosa grounds out to end it in the 7th.

Texas still leads 4-1.

French gives up a lead off single.
A 6-4-3 dp gets two outs and cleans the bases.
French ends the inning with a K.

Texas leads 4-1 after to the bottom of the 8th.

French is over a hundred pitches now and I doubt he finishes
but will have to see. I wish they would not use Knebel, but I am sure they will if French doesn't come out again.

Steinhage pinch hits and gets hit to reach first.
Felts K's for the first out.
McElroy also K's for two down.
Marlow up and a balk is called and Steinhagen now moves to second.
Marlow hits a soft liner to left for a single that plates Steinhagen for the fifth run.
Hall strikes out to end the inning.

Texas now leads 5-1 and here comes Knebel, wish we could
go to someone else with a 4 run lead to save his arm.

Knebel gives up a lead off double.
He K's the next batter for one away.
Then K's the following hitter for the second out.
A ground out to second ends the game.

Texas wins the first game of the series 5-1!

Solid game finally for the bats with 12 hits led by of course Payton.
Another major screw up on the bases kept us from putting it
away early and might have kept Knebel off the mound.

I have seen a lot of strange double plays, but a bases loaded
hit to the outfield is right up there.

Besides that mistake though, it might be the best game the
Horns have played this season.

Home now and reading the the thread to catch up.

Nice to see the bats come alive and pick up a win against a pretty strong starter for UCSB. hopefully this is a good sign for the weekend to come..
