When Joyner fell in that last possession by Stanford, I thought, "Oh Geez, she's gonna shoot a 3" and then to see her get up and steal the ball in the same play, wow.

I will something about Stanford that may not be apparent for those watching the game on TV. Typically, the other team is still in shootaround when the announcer says it's time for the Eyes of Texas and the band fires up the song. When this happened, Stanford stopped their practice and all went to their sideline and stood shoulder to shoulder while the Eyes were sung by the fans. And once the song was done, they went and got balls back from the ball girls and went back to warming up.

Class.
This is a play that I fully expected JH to either foul on the inbound or miss the layup. I know I shouldn't rag on her, but she has so much ability and such a potentially wonderful future ... I have been happy to see her and the team play well today and versus Tennessee. I hope this is what we see throughout the year. Never expected this win after Arizona and Hawaii and 24 TOs in the Ohio game, but I'm happy to have been wrong. Happy holidays to all!

Props to Charli Colllier for a huge game. I can't recall that type of double-double from a former 'Horn post player against at Top 10 team; I'm sure someone else has a better memory than me.

Charli has the potential to dominate a game offensively if she can keep herself on the court and out of foul trouble, especially early in the game. Her ability to stretch defenses with her 3-point shooting can really help open up things for our guards if she can shoot consistently from the perimeter. Coach Aston has to teach her to be a bit more cautious on defense and not pick up early fouls, and allow her the freedom on offense to use all her scoring skills.

Guess I better take off my hat and bow after a great win. As bad as they looked earlier in the season, it simply made this excellent game that more beautiful and amazing and surprising. So as much as I would like the team and Aston to look like that every game, I also realize it is but one game. Sure hope all are committed to it going forward. Tremendous effort both from the players and coaches. Matchups can be game changing. In some games like the Arizona game, we didn't match up well...…….especially at the point guard. It seemed like the matchups were relatively equal in this game. There wasn't one Stanford player that just was lights out better than our players. Where did the patience come from?...... and lack of just tossing the ball wherever...….go? They by and far took care of the ball and didn't force things. The man defense was excellent......even after giving up some good back-door cuts/baskets. I think Aston also benefitted by the short bench. She only played 8 players with the starting five getting the vast majority. Higgs and Allen-Taylor had 18 and 14 minutes and Palmer had 9. The revolving players from the past where she played 10-13 players and pulled em when they made one mistake was absent. Eight rotation players is the sweet spot for a coach. Sure feels better about the conference play. Having said that...….Texas is still WAY down the list in the conference records at 7-4. Kansas is 10-0 as is TTech and several at 9-1. Those records are against bad teams but still are better than in recent memory. First conference game is against one of those 9-1 teams (TCU). After a decent Iowa State game(7-3), get West Virginia (another 9-1) team in Morgantown. After those 3 games, I think we can get a feel for if this team can be pretty good...…..or if the Stanford game was an aberration. Right now...……..Great Win Ladies (and coaches)

After seeing the Ohio game, which was a thoroughly underwhelming performance, I went to the game today without the slightest hope that they'd able to beat Stanford. But I'm thrilled to say I was wrong.

Every player who took the floor for Texas contributed enormously to the win. Charli's near 20-20 game was the headliner, no doubt. But I can't help but be more and more impressed with Celeste Taylor every time I see her play. She brings a quiet confidence, a worker-bee determination, a maturity beyond her years, and a commitment to defense and "the little things" that I truly see influencing the rest of team. Her 3-pointer to start the game was a tone setter. I feared when she left the game early in the 2nd quarter due to foul trouble. Stanford did make a short charge but Texas was able to regain traction.k

Nothing is as fun as an upset, and no upset is as fun as beating #1. It's like we've had a split personality this year --- a mediocre team and an outstanding basketball team. I hope the mediocre one disappears more and more. Everyone played so hard. Like at Tennessee, we had great patience. Important game for Charli. I agree with the smaller rotation being a benefit compared to some other years with the wholesale substitutions. Well done KA and all the players.

Today the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. There was an energy and a desire to win that was palpable. I hope it stays that way.

I just rewatched the game. I think this might be Colliers coming out party! Dance Charlie Dance :hammertime:

Here's to hoping this was the game that clicked for her offensively and defensively for her to get over that Hump. Loving me some Charlie!

Probably the best part for me is to build a big lead and then lose it completely but still come back against the #1 team. Can’t get complacent. But hopefully this gives some nice confidence. The horns were dead fish in a barrel earlier this season. But it’s cool to see them coming back to life.

This is probably in another thread but where is Audrey Warren? Was she on the bench? Several times I looked (TV) but couldn’t see her.

Also why isn’t Sophie Taylor playing? She just got a scholarship, but is she not going to play?

We have been a guard-heavy, post-light team for quite a while. It's probably happened more recently than this, but I can't think of an example until I go back to Tiffany Jackson.

Audrey has been out all season since being put on a concussion protocol in preseason. She has been on the bench and also seen in practice videos not involving contact drills.

I do not expect Sophie Taylor to see the floor this season unless it is in the last few minutes of a game Texas leads by a big bunch. Shae Routt has not gotten in the last few games either.

Edit: But now that you mention it, I do not recall if Audrey was on the bench yesterday or not. Does anyone else?

Yeah audrey was on the bench jumping and cheering the entire game. She was toward the very end sitting right beside karisma ortiz.

Sidenote: do y'all think audrey warren will redshirt this season or immediately get playing time when she returns? I ask this because Texas is just now finding the right rotation and minutes for each player so I don't know who she takes minutes from if she were to play this season.

Very pleased to see this sweet upset victory of #1 Stanford - congrats Lady Horns and KA- keep the momentum and build on this!!!

THIS IS THE BEST PART:

Collier's performance needed to be that special and the win needed to be that big, given that the competition for player of the week included a player who set the NCAA single-game record for 3-pointers (Baylor's Juicy Landrum had 14 against Arkansas State) ...

I would bet that Audrey Warren will Red shirt this year since she has missed 40% of the season so far and the rotation seems to be set. This is the first time in KA's tenure she has played a short bench with only 8 players in the rotation. I believe she has had the mentality that she has to get players on the floor to keep them happy which I never did understand or agree with. Joyner mentioned in the press conference she liked the minutes she is playing and is in condition to handle it.

In the press conference earlier in the week Coach Aston said that Audrey is really close to returning.

She was. You can see her jumping up and celebrating with the team in some shots.

I love these press conferences, but I wish they'd put a mic on the folks asking the questions.
Last year, on someone complained on twitter about football's press conferences having no mike. The SID said, "Oh, no. We always have mikes". Then I pulled up a Mike White press conference on youtube and tee'd it up to the point where he starts taking questions and then responded with that link in the reply tweet. Next week, suddenly ALL press conferences had a mike (awkwardly handed around). I'm sure they just got lax and forgot of the student intern who was tasked with that job left.

Any video of the locker room right after the victory? Karen's hair is wet at the press conference and I assumed she got "splashed" by the team, just like after the Tennessee game.

I realize one game doesn't fully capture a player's talents, but I was underwhelmed by Stanford's Haley Jones on Sunday. Will watch her when I can the rest of the season to see if she's more of a difference-maker for the Cardinal as a freshman come PAC 12 play.

As I anticipated, Collier and Baylor player Juicy Landrum were chosen as co-players of the week by the Big 12.

Celeste Taylor was selected as freshman of the week. Yeah Celeste!
