Texas v LSU March 1-3

For me it's more than the W last night. It's the product Texas is putting on the diamond once again.

When I was in academic pursuits at UT (c. 1973-1989) my buddies and I had a common refrain after watching any football bowl in which Texas may have had the misfortune to lose: "That's okay; UT baseball is only a month or so away" full well expecting the high quality play that Texas has demonstrated historically.

I chuckled to myself watching last night as the LSU color guy (with MLB buddy support from Zonk and Zeke), with his essentially 'LSU and Texas are the same in college baseball.'

Uh, no. One gem: "We are watching two programs who have 54 college world series between them ---- yeah, if you consider 36 of those are Texas' and that Texas has appeared in 36 of 72 CWS's (my math shows that is on average every other year), has made the CWS in every decade of the CWS's existence, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s.

LSU is a newbie to this; first CWS was 1986. Sure, they've won 6 titles, like Texas, but four were in the 90s. Texas has been, after USC, maybe even more consistently a power than USC, for the 8 decades of the CWS.

Welcome to the party LSU.

Anyway, Horns may not win it all every year, or win every game they are supposed to, but on average they are as good or better as they come year in and year out.

Hook 'em!
