Texas v. Baylor

The coaches have snagged defeat out of the jaws of victory. Great Job!

There is no reason to pull our pitcher that is doing fine and only thrown 56 pitches. If you are using this to get ready for next week then let him pitch. I am sure that he is not coming out with a 4 run lead after 56 pitches next week.

This team will not win a world series until this staff lears to manage a pitching staff. I know the players are on the field but don't mess with what is working.

Belt with a 2-run HR. 13-9

Not a bad start. Come on Horns hold them and come back!

Oh come now there was nothing wrong with pulling Green, Dicharry had been money all year. He and Wood and Workman got shelled but that was not predictable.

Valmy,

If you are using this weekend to get ready for the postseason why would you pull your starter. You should be saving your pen if you have a chance. I am all for using others if you need but now instead of letting Green pithch maybe 7 or 8 and saving your pen you have used a minimum of 4 or your top 6 guys early in a possible 4 game weekend. You can't do this and expect to be ready to win later in the tournament. The coaches have to learn how to manage a staff. Period.

Actually, if you're getting ready for the post season you're doing the exact opposite. Save your starters that have pitched the most innings over the course of the year. Pretty much standard practice by any pitching coach worth his salt to have his starters go no more than 5 innings and let the pen finish it out.

After all, you want those 3 (or 4) main starters to be well rested for the regionals. Not coming off throwing 100+ pitches the week before on an already tired arm.

The plan was to use Green again if we make it to the title game on Sunday. So I think that was the logic behind pulling him.

I mean please the bullpen just melted down against A&M a week and a half ago. I mean surely they would not do so again.

Are you saying they can't throw 100 plus pitches today or tomorrow and come back over a week later and be rested. I am not that young anymore but come on.

The problem is, WHERE you play in the post season is probably being determined right now...I don't want to have to win a super in Tallahassee(or Oxford) again. We don't have any Huston Streets hanging around these days. You can't go into this tournament (like it's worthless) like this. This staff does it too often.

No worries.....Baylor will not have a tie breaker over us because they will lose to KSU and KU.....with that said.......we better beat the hell out of both KANSAS SCHOOLS!!!!!!! Now that we've made fools of ourselves and got beat by a really crappy team.......let's play baseball tomorrow against our main rivals....KSU.

Geez guys, settle down.

Even at 0-3 in this yournament, Texas is a national seed. We went into this thing planning to work on some specific areas and get out of OKC rested and ready for the REAL tournament. If we happen to win it, cool.

This tournament is just not very meaningful for UT, and we do not want to tax our pitchers. The team was not up for this game, which showed. It doesn't determine the outcome for this season in any way, but you still would like to see the team playing at a high level prior to regionals.

I agree. I hate to lose. I don't care what we have wrapped up or who we are playing . I get angry when we lose and especilly when we are going along well and make a move for no reason and it cost us. I understand that these pitchers could have made the outs but it was still a questionable move at best.

I hope we can shake it off and go get the next two.

Valmy - Everyone played well except the bullpen. It was interesting to note that Hernandez played left field, first time ever? Also, correct me if wrong, but there were no pinch hitters by Texas. I loathe the conference tournament, everything to lose, nothing to gain. But if you have to play it, win the SOB.

Anyone in Bricktown reading this thread, appreciate your comments. Did anyone hear Augie's comments after the game?

I think we are jumping the gun a bit here. We gave up one terrible inning - other than that the game was fine and we scored a lot of runs. As Augie said in the post-game, the most dependable part of our game (the bullpen) just didn't get it done today. That kind of crap happens in these tournaments all around the country in every sport.

As far as I can remember, this is our one really bad inning of the year. I think we will be OK.

Torre, Hernandez played some LF against Alabama A&M last weekend. I think Lusson played there the first game, and then Hernandez the second.

I hold the baseball tournament in the same disdain I hold the basketball tournament when you are a conference champion, top 8 seed and have nothing to gain in winning the conference tournamennt. The announcers on XM said repeately, Texas has nothing to play for here in OK City. They already know they will host a Regional and Super so I hope they are right.

The reason Augie pulled Cole after 66 pitches was to maybe use him in a championship game..if we got or get there. There's no reason to jump ship, we are fine. One bad inning hurt us and we just move on. The only thing this tourney will do for us, if we go 0-3 is move us from a potential 2 seed to a 6 or 7 seed. We'll be fine.

so how long did Cole last and what was the score when he left?--I know we are saving him for Sunday, but geez...
