Texas @ UConn 11/14/2022

Happy with their play so far but we sure miss Rori’s quickness on defense where Fudd is concerned. Our freshman have handled this big stage quite well so far. A-Mo made a great move to get a basket and I hope that primes her pump

This is the second time I've seen Shaylee play this season and I've seen enough. She's too slow to run point, allowing defenders to to attack her and cause TO's. At this point, Sonya Morris is the better backup point guard and have Shaylee strictly at the 2-guard. Or even try Holle at point.

Jones can’t stray so far out from under the basket. That’s at least twice a faster player has run past her to score. The young ones are playing quite well and don’t seem to be the least bit afraid.

Not sure why Jones was guarding that smaller quicker player on the perimeter while Amina was guarding the slower, bigger Duharsz at the top of the key. Seems like had time to change that as the last play of the half was slow develop.

Amina looks great. Taylor playing well, Sonya has made some big shots. Shaylee has no confidence right now and it is affecting her tremendously in every aspect. Vic yelling at her every stoppage of play and she doesn’t look like she is used to tough coaching like that, hopefully she can respond to it.

If Sonya spends her time running the point, it will take away her opportunities to shoot the ball. And, Gonzales is not as good offensively as Sonya. Gonzales has not prepared all pre-season to run the point for 30-35 minutes; her practice time was mainly at SG while Sonya's was at SF. We're fortunate they have both been serviceable tonight; neither is Rori; neither should be expected to be Rori.

I just hope Coach understands Shaylee is all we have. Along with tough coaching has to be followed with lots of encouragement.

I agree with Moooo but I sure get uncomfortable with the ball in Gonzalez hands at the point. Our bigs have done more ball handling on the perimeter than I like as well but have done fairly well at it without being turnover machines.

I like that Texas is holding their own. It’s a winnable game if they keep it close (Vic’s 4 point strategy at the end of the 4th). They should come out in Qtr 3 with some confidence (not that they’ve shown a lack).

Uconn will come out guns ablazing in the 3rd qtr. Keep calm, match their fight, take care of the ball and withstand their punches.

We not playing terrible I feel like once we clean up turnovers and quit going away from going inside. We have the size advantage. I think some calls aren’t going our way as well.

This is one of the games Vic be referring to in press conf. This is a RENT game out ladies are going to have to pay rent. If you want to be a top 10 program you have to be tough every time you play.

Free throw percentage is going to be a real sore point of this game. Rebounding and turnovers aren’t looking good after 3 as well.
A-Mo’s 4th foul was BS (that hurt).

No excuse for Gonzalez not knowing how much time was left to end the 3rd. None. She seems to be in over her head a lot (including last game).

Noticed Jones spoke to the ref about what that goon guarding her is doing. I guess he listened as he dinged a foul the next time.

Irritating and frustrating that, without Rori in the game, we have zero guards capable of handling the ball just good enough to get us into our offense.

I thought Vic was downplaying our defense a bit before the season but he was right we are far from where he wants. So many missed assignments, no help side defense, getting front cut, etc..

I wish we had a better offense instead of the dribble weave. When UCONN runs their offense its so smooth.

Gonzales is a huge disappointment tonight. With Rori I think we’d be in it and maybe win it.
Oh well. Onward. The best is absolutely ahead of this team with Vic in charge.

Morris is Vic’s type of player but not to sold on Gonzales. She’s a liability on defense and not contributing on offense. I’m going to contribute that to her not being a point guard. Maybe we’ll see more from her when Harmon returns.

I’m screaming at the tv I understand our pg is missing but the ladies have to play and not think to an extent. You don’t leave the person that has a 30 piece PIEROD and that’s not on Vic. I also want to point out we playing the long game with this one. You do want to win every game but the ladies def needed a gut check. The next 3 all gonna be pretty tough as well.

Yep, I had to mute midway thru the first qtr. due to the yapping announcers. By the way, Tennessee was beat tonight by Indiana.

Loved the fight at the end from this team. Good early test so now the priority needs to be getting Rori healthy and then the fun begins:hookem:

Sidenote: Vic kept Jones out way too long in the 4th quarter.

They ended the 4th well (thank you Shay Holle). Respectable score in a game I thought was going to be a possible drubbing based on the Louisiana game. We win this game with Rori.

I like how they competed. Lots (and LOTS) to work on but we know Vic will have this team humming at the right time.
