Not sure why Jones was guarding that smaller quicker player on the perimeter while Amina was guarding the slower, bigger Duharsz at the top of the key. Seems like had time to change that as the last play of the half was slow develop.Jones can’t stray so far out from under the basket. That’s at least twice a faster player has run past her to score. The young ones are playing quite well and don’t seem to be the least bit afraid.
If Sonya spends her time running the point, it will take away her opportunities to shoot the ball. And, Gonzales is not as good offensively as Sonya. Gonzales has not prepared all pre-season to run the point for 30-35 minutes; her practice time was mainly at SG while Sonya's was at SF. We're fortunate they have both been serviceable tonight; neither is Rori; neither should be expected to be Rori. This is the second time I've seen Shaylee play this season and I've seen enough. She's too slow to run point, allowing defenders to to attack her and cause TO's. At this point, Sonya Morris is the better backup point guard and have Shaylee strictly at the 2-guard. Or even try Holle at point.
I just hope Coach understands Shaylee is all we have. Along with tough coaching has to be followed with lots of encouragement.Amina looks great. Taylor playing well, Sonya has made some big shots. Shaylee has no confidence right now and it is affecting her tremendously in every aspect. Vic yelling at her every stoppage of play and she doesn’t look like she is used to tough coaching like that, hopefully she can respond to it.
I agree with Moooo but I sure get uncomfortable with the ball in Gonzalez hands at the point. Our bigs have done more ball handling on the perimeter than I like as well but have done fairly well at it without being turnover machines. If Sonya spends her time running the point, it will take away her opportunities to shoot the ball. FS1 is basically the UConn network. 100% all hype and discussion of UConn all game long.
