Texas @ Texas Tech

Apparently the magic bullet for the Tech coaching staff to be congenial in the “good game line” is to hand their *** to them on a platter on their own home court.

Great to see A-Mo and Gaston with double-doubles off the bench

We turned it over 18 times. We had 23 against Baylor. That is a direct result of losing Rori for sure but needs to stop. However, 17-20 at the line is a sight for sore eyes.

We looked good but it’s hard to get a real feel because Tech really sucks this year.
Booker and Gonzalez had 10 of the 18 turnovers... definitely got to stop that!

I’d credit Shaylee’s last 2 turnovers to Vic for not getting her a breather or 2. She was clearly gassed in the 4th quarter and Texas had a 25 point lead yet she still played 40 minutes.

I was expecting Maul to get additional playing time in the 2H but she first entered the 2H with 1:40 remaining in the game. Jordana Codio entered the game with 19 seconds remaining.

I think Vic is trying to get his new main unit as many reps together as he can. His focus now is, how can we win minus Rori and maybe Taylor and getting that new rotation on the same page. We relied heavily on Harmon and that dynamic went poof. Welcome to the new normal.

Just think, Texas never has to play at Tech again. There is a God.
In Gerlich's presser after the game, when asked about the historic rivalry between UT and TTU in WBB, she mentioned that she hoped this wouldn't be the last time Texas comes to Lubbock and that the next time they go to Austin won't be their last time. Honestly, as much as I despise Tech and Baylor both, I hope we can keep those rivalries alive. I'd much rather keep them on our schedule every year than to have the non-conference filled with teams we regularly beat by 50 or 60 points. I know we always need a few weak opponents to work on things (and get the bench involved as well), but it's time to beef it up some.

I agree and I don’t. I agree because I think you are right about the blowout games. I don’t because I would hate the occasional loss that might bring.

You know, I think you’re correct as much as I’ve been vehemently against playing Tech in non-conference games up to this point. It would be better than playing yet another directional school. God knows if it was Jody & Marsha in this situation it’d probably be a home & home series each season.

I’ve always thought Texas should consider playing Baylor every year. It’s two great programs 90 miles apart.

Perhaps Texas will be able to beef up its non-conference schedule with some Big 12 teams. Certainly opens up a lot of possibilities to solve what has become a problem.

This really is an interesting topic. Part of me wants to just be done with the lot of them, but the other part of me really doesn’t enjoy the blowout games. That said, the B12 has been so hugely ungracious in handling our departure that I hate the thought of Tech and Baylor benefiting from the attention those matchups with us would bring. And while I assumed it was my orange colored glasses that made the B12 refs appear to be anti-Texas, I’m now convinced there is a real bias (see Vic’s pre-Tech presser).

I won’t be upset if they don’t get scheduled and I won’t be upset if they do. However, I think if Texas does agree it should be in Austin only. I doubt that would fly but it works with the directional schools. Lubbock and Waco are godawful destinations regardless of how many asteroid craters you can visit in the panhandle or what cheap Chinese imports you can buy at Chip and Joanna’s silos.

I would welcome games against KState, Kansas, TCU and OSU.

Interestingly enough, I haven’t missed playing Aggie at all.

There is no benefit to playing them. The only rivalry is in their heads. Remember the quotes of their athletic director, their football coach and their little punk Yormark. Also to remember is Gerlich yapping at Vic like a deranged chihuahua. She's a mini-Mulkey. AMF ttu

Was a Kirk Bohls article but:
"Goodbye, Tech: With Texas’ move to the SEC, the Longhorns may not play any Big 12 team in the future aside from potential bowl games or NCAA basketball tournaments. And may not play at Tech, either. That’s due in large part to the unseemly welcome home for former Tech basketball coach Chris Beard when angry Tech students gathered in front of the Longhorns’ team bus. You cannot begin to understand the harsh reaction that drew from the Texas administration, which was furious over the lack of security and potential for even worse craziness. Storming the field in Lubbock after last year’s overtime win over Texas also stirred the emotional pot. I wish the rivalry would continue, at least in the non-football sports, but one Texas school official told me, “It will be a long while before Texas sends its teams to Lubbock.” The waters have been poisoned, and it will take a long healing period before these two sides will meet athletically again."

This is probably more of where I’m at too. Make em play in Austin (always) if they want it so badly. After all the “problem” I was referring to is beefing up the home non-conference schedule

I like the idea of playing any of the power conference schools (ACC and Big Ten included) in place of two or three of those gimmies.

Ok after hearing about Gerlich’s press conference I guess she decided she has a better chance of getting on the schedule with honey instead of their customary vinegar

Of course, ultimately I defer to what is best for the team and for the players. I’m coming at this as a fan who mistakenly attended games once in both Waco and Lubbock. Once was enough. The inferiority complex in those fans is deep, making them horrible winners and horrible losers. I’ve been to Knoxville - lovely. I’ve been to Columbia SC - also a good experience. I’d gladly attend another game in Athens, Ga. But I have no desire (or reason) to ever visit Lubbock or Waco again. Bad food. Cheap hotels. Horrible fans. Having a Walmart and an Applebee’s doesn’t make you a destination spot.

Ashley G’s mom is visiting. Must be planning another transfer.

Announcers - the male just can’t disguise his TT bias.

We need Maul so glad she is getting some time and Vic says she is working “really hard”.

Not directed at you, but fyi: I like Ron Thulen as an announcer. He seems to be genuinely interested in women's basketball and does his homework. He might seem biased when he says positive things about a coach or player we don't like, but he is positive about everyone. He says he meets with coaches before games and he seems to know most of the B12 coaches as real people. I prefer him to some of the campus announcers who are clueless, often about their own school as well as the opponent. I like him when he announces WNBA games, too - no tacky comments about player disputes or arrest records! And as more and more male announcers have daughters and granddaughters who play sports, we'll see more knowledgeable and appreciative comments ... thank you, Title IX!

Just pondering ... Why are they the "Lady Raiders? " I thought most schools dropped the "Lady" from their names, except Tennessee, which remains haunted by Pat's ghost.
