Texas Tech vs. Texas Game 1

Connor Mayes, who is supposed to start the Sunday game, comes in to pitch the ninth.
It does show you how much they want this victory.

He faces the top of the order, in Gardner, batting lefty, leading off.
He blows a high heater by him, for the swinging K, one away.

Another pinch hitter is Ryan Long, batting lefty, with one gone.
Another high fast ball and another swinging K, two outs.

Smith is the last hope for Texas Tech, batting righty.
A full count and a liner to left is a single, the game is still alive.

Neslony, bats lefty, with a man on and two outs.
The runner goes and nobody cares, it's defensive indifference.
A fly ball to right center and Gurwitz has it and that's the game.

Texas wins a game that they had to by a score of 3-0.

Let's discuss it in a few minutes.

French pitches 8 strong innings in his final regular home season game at the Disch and Mayes closes the door - the Horns get the first of the series win 3-0:hookem:

Parker French went eight effective innings, though some were very eventful. He pitched in and out of trouble and the bullpen closed it out. Mayes looked very good again, he could be the next French, you hope.

Tech actually outhit Texas 8-7, but errors hurt the Raider cause. Texas got all their all their runs in the fifth and an error was a big part of it.

So now the hard part comes, you took the first game, but now you have no proven starter, to pitch the two remaining games. Clemens is out, Hollingsworth is questionable and maybe ineffective, if he does pitch, due to his bad shoulder.
Any pitcher could be used at any time from now on, hopefully the bats can help out. Texas could certainly use them.
The pitching staff is injured and overused, but it's all hands on deck for the rest of the series.

We will see how it goes for starting pitching and just go from there. One down and hopefully two to go. :hookem2::bevo:

Parker French really stepped up tonight. Made me nervous the first 4 innings, but did what he had to do. Glad his good efforts, tonight and over the last four years, were recognized by the crowd.

It was a beautiful baseball night at the Disch with ever so slight a breeze at times, made even better by a win and a shutout.
