It's the last conference home series of the season, with Texas Tech in Austin. It's seems like we have said this is a must win game or series for a long time now, but we really mean it this time. Texas has to at least win the series to have any shot at an at large bid to a regional. I think they need a sweep, but if they win the series and then win out, they might could get there by winning their division in Tulsa. It would really help, if they faced either TCU or OSU in the Championship.

First they have to take care of business tonight, this may well be the only game, you have a regular starter on the mound, for the Horns. He is also your best in senior Parker French. If your going to win the series, or even think of sweeping, tonight is a must win.

Tech now and Baylor next weekend - it's nut-cuttin' time for this team. A ton of injuries from early-on to very recently have hurt this team, but we're TEXAS!

Who that is still playing or on the bench will step up to get 'er done?

Parker French takes his warm up pitches, as we are about to get underway. He needs a quality start tonight, in the worst way. He's the best you have, so he's who you want out there.

Tanner Gardner, the Raider right fielder, leads off and bats left handed.
A ground ball off French's glove and deflects to Marlow, for a 1-4-3 first out.

Orlando Garcia, is the shortstop, batting right handed, with one down.
The heavy sinker drops out of sight and a swing and a miss, makes two away, on the K.

Stephen Smith, plays center field, bats righty, with the first two retired.
A liner to the foul side of the right field line and Shaw has it, as he makes contact with the side fence.

Tech down in order and Texas comes to bat.
 
Ryan Moseley, a hard throwing righty hander, gets the start for Tech.

Johnson leads off, batting right handed.
He K's swinging on a low pitch, for a K, one away.

Gurwitz up batting righty, with one down.
He hits a little chopper that the catchers has on a hop, in front of the plate, the 2-3 is two outs.

Barrera bats righty, with two away.
A shot off the pitcher and to short is a 1-6-3 out, to retire the side.

Both teams down in order, so nothing across, after one.
 
French back out for the Tech second frame.

Left fielder, Tyler Neslony, leads off batting left handed.
Our first full count and he walks on a pitch, just outside, for the first runner of the game.

Eric Gutierrez, the first baseman, bats righty, with one on.
A liner on a hop to Shaw is the first hit of the game, to put two on.

Cory Raley, the DH, bats righty, with two aboard.
He squares, but can't get the bunt down, on two pitches, so he then is frozen by a fast ball, on the inside corner.
The backwards K is a big out one.

Bryant Burleson, the second sacker, bats righty, with one out and two on.
Another liner to right and it's another single, to load the bases.

Third baseman Michael Davis, bats lefty, with the bases full and one down.
Another fast ball is taken for a called strike three, an even bigger out two.

The nine hole hitter is Tyler Floyd, batting righty, with the bases loaded and two away.
A 3-1 count and a roller to Baker, and he tags second, for a 6U, to get out of the jam unscathed.

Good work by French in that frame and it remains a 0-0 game, to the bottom of two.
 
Moseley is back, for the Texas half of the second.

Cantu leads off batting right handed.
A smash on a hop, the shortstop has it, as it nearly took him to center field, his throw is a 6-3 out one.

Marlow bats lefty, with on down.
He swings through an off speed pitch, the K is two away.

Baker bats righty, with two away.
He K's on a high fast ball, that retires the side in order, for the second time.

Two played, no runs.
 
French works the third, for the Horns.

Gardner, at the front of the order, leads off again, batting lefty.
A first pitch fly ball to center, is one down.

Garcia is batting righty, with one gone.
A hopper up the middle and Baker ranges over and makes the 6-3 play, two outs.

Smith will bat righty, with now two away.
A hard grounder up the middle gets through, for a single.

Neslony bats lefty, with one on and two gone.
The runner goes and a high throw by Cantu, allows him to slide in safely.
A full count and a walk will put multiple runners on for Tech again.

Gutierrez is a dangerous righty hitter, with two on and two down.
A fast ball under the hands is swung on and missed and again French escapes, with the K.

Bottom of three and still no tallies.
 
Moseley has not been touched, as he pitches the third, for Tech.

Boswell leads off, batting lefty.
A solid liner off the high fast ball, goes into center, for the first Texas hit.

Hinojosa, with the broken bone, in his left hand, bats righty, as the DH.
He bunts and the sac is 1-3 out, as Boswell moves to second.

Shaw, bats lefty with a man at second and one down.
A ground ball to third doesn't help, the runner holds, the 5-3 is two gone.

Johnson bats righty, as the top of the order comes once more.
He has Boswell on second and two outs.
He is hit by a pitch, they pitched around him, that puts two on.

Gurwitz, has two on and two outs, batting righty.
Still a chance for an early run and lead.
He is also hit by an inside heater, to load the bases.

Barrera, up batting righty, with the bases loaded, two outs.
Need a clutch hit, Horns, to win games like this.
A high pop foul, behind the plate and by the screen, is caught to end the inning.

Texas has it's first threat and like Tech, it goes for not.

Three down and nada for runs, in the game.
 
French pitches the fourth and needs a quick inning, his pitch count is too high, too soon.

The DH, Raley, bats righty, leading off.
Tech keeps poking liners to right, another is a lead single.

Burleson bats righty, with one on.
He eschews the bunt. :smile1: So a pop up to Marlow is one down.

Davis bats lefty, with one on and one away.
He does bunt and Boswell charges, but has no play, the infield hit, puts two on.

Floyd bats in the nine hole, batting righty, with two on.
He K's on the hard sinker, swinging, two gone.

Gardner bats lefty, at the top of the order, two on and two out
A grounder up the middle to Marlow, he has to set and go to first and it's in time.

Another jam and again no damage. To the bottom of the fourth, still no runs.
 
Moseley back as the Horn fourth starts.

Cantu leads off, batting right handed.
A full count and a ground ball toward the hole, on the left side, the shortstop has it and his throw was in time, but low and not handled by the first baseman. The E-3 lets him reach.

Marlow bats lefty, with one on.
He can't execute the bunt and K's looking, on an inside corner fast ball.

Baker bats righty with one on and one down.
Another ground ball in the hole at short, the shortstop gets to it and it's a 6-4 force, for two outs.

Boswell bats lefty, with one on and two gone.
He grounds his second single of the game, to right and Baker motors to third.

Hinojosa bats righty, with runners on the corners, two outs.
A roller to second and the 4-3 strands two more for Texas.

Four in the books and no runner has scored yet, in the game.
 
French is out for the fifth, if he doesn't start limiting his pitch count, he won't go much deeper, in the game.

Garcia leads off, batting right handed.
He golfs a sinker to center and Gurwitz was playing deep, it drops for a lead single.

Smith bats righty, with one on.
A full count and another sinker and is swung over the top of, for another K.

Lefty hitter, Neslony, bats with one down and one on.
A pitch goes through Cantu's legs and the wild pitch, moves the runner to second.
He hits Neslony, in the back, it puts two on again.

Guteirrez, bats again righty, with two on, one down.
Another tough spot for French.
He gets sawed off, as much as you can, with a metal bat, a soft foul liner to Boswell is out two.

Raley bats righty, with two on and now two away.
A ground ball to second and the 4-3 extricates French from the latest jam, without a run.

Halway through the first game of the series tied at 0-0, but French has thrown 99 pitches.
 
Moseley pitches the fifth for Texas Tech.

Shaw leads off, in the nine hole, leads off batting lefty.
A liner in the gap, in right center and Shaw legs out a double, as the throw is wide and late, from the right fielder.

Johnson, at the top of the order, bats righty, with Shaw at second.
He is hit on the left kneecap, he goes down in a heap.
Ben's back up and goes to first, to put two on.

Gurwitz is up to bunt, no doubt.
He does and the third baseman charges and throws it away at first.
It's a hit and an E-5.

Texas leads 1-0.

Barrera bats righty, with two on.
He squares and is hit on the hand by a pitch, the Tech coach is out. He says it hit the bat, he loses the argument and leaves.

Cantu bats with the bases loaded.
A ground ball is to deep short and the diving shortstop has it, but the throw is late, at first.

Marlow bats lefty, with the bases still loaded.
Need to get a big inning here.
Put the ball in play and no K's.
A ground ball to first and the throw comes home, the 3-2 force is one away.

Baker bats, with the bases loaded and one down.
You need more in this inning.
A hanger and he lines it to left, it's caught, but the SF, is one more.

Texas leads 3-0.

Boswell bats lefty, with two on and two down.
A change up and a swinging K, ends the frame.

Texas breaks out on top, with three big runs, to lead 3-0, five played.
 
French is out for the sixth and the next pitch he throws will be his 100th. Hopefully you can get one more at least, from him and turn over a lead to the pen.

Burleson leads off, batting righty.
A liner to left center and on the run and finally a dive, Gurwitz has it, for a sparkling out one, a defensive gem.

Davis bats lefty, with one down.
A deep fly ball to right, dies at the track, Shaw has it for two gone.

Floy bats in the nine slot, righty, with two outs.
A liner over Baker, is a two out single.

Gardner, the top of the order, bats lefty, with one on and two outs.
A fly ball down the left field line, Johnson has it after crossing the foul line, to end the frame.

Hinojosa leads off batting right handed, as the DH.
A full count and he fouls off a pitch and that hurt, you can tell.
That broken hand is bothering him.
He finally walks, for a lead runner.

Shaw bats lefty, and up to probably bunt him over.
His double last inning, ignited the three run rally.
The bunt is down and the 1-3, has C.J. on second, with an out.

Johnson up and batting righty, with Shaw at second, with one away.
He has been hit twice, to reach so faer.
Hinojosa goes and is out by about eight feet, that hurts and another base running mistake.
A ground ball to second and just like that, the side is retired.

After six innings, Texas leads 3-0.
 
French will try to go one more, in his last start ever, at the Disch, most likely.

Garcia leads off the seventh, for Tech, batting righty.
A hopper is cut off by Boswell, at third, his throw goes 5-3 and one down.

Smith bats righty, with one down.
The sinker is still working, as a grounder to second is two gone.

Neslony, bats lefty, with two outs.
A shallow fly ball to shallow right, Shaw has it, the side is down in order.

Matt Withrow, a big righty comes into to pitch for Tech, in the Horn seventh. He's the son of Mike Withrow, who we sort of old timers, remember pitching at Texas.

Gurwitz leads off, batting right handed.
A blooper to center. drops in for a lead single.

Barrera bats righty, with one on.
He bunts and the sac goes 1-3.

Cantu bats righty, with one on and one down.
A full count and he walks on an inside pitch, to put two on.

Marlow bats lefty, with two on and one down.
Texas tries to play add on.
He K's looking, for the second time, on an inside corner fast ball, two gone.

Baker will bat righty, with two on and two outs.
Could use another insurance run.
A ground ball deep in the hole at short, the shortstop dives and has it, but no play, to load the bases, on an infield hit.

He K's swinging on the tailing slider, one down.
Seven K's for Parker ties his season high.

Raley bats righty, with one away.
A fly ball to center makes it two outs.

Burleson bats righty, with two gone.
He walks to put a man on.

Skip comes out and that is all for Parker. He gets the ovation he deserves as he leaves, the mound, most likely, for the last time at the Disch.

His first batter to face is pinch hitter, Hunter Hargrove, a righty batter, with one on and two away.
A full count and the runner will be off.
He walks on a pitch way outside, to put two aboard.

Skip is out again and he wants a right hander.

Right handed senior, Ty Marlow, comes in to face the right handed pinch hitter.

That pinch hitter is Quinn Carpenter, batting righty, with two on and two outs.
He becomes the tying run at the plate, need to snuff this out.
A 2-0 pitch is swung on and a fly ball to right, retires the side.

Bottom of the eighth, Texas leads 3-0.

 
Withrow stays in the game to pitch the eighth, for Tech. Hargrove stays in the game to catch now.

He bunts and the third baseman charges, bare hands it, and throws him out, on a nice play, for one out.

Shaw bats lefty, with one away.
He K's swinging, for two down.

Johnson bats again, at the top of the order, with two outs.
He is hit again, this time by a curve ball, the third time tonight.
Ben should run and does, he steals the bag with ease.

Gurwitz tries to play add on, batting righty, with one on and two outs.
He also K's swinging to retire the side, I am sure, though nobody is leaving the field, now they finally do.
