Texas State - 2 game mid-week miniseries

In the past, Pierce has absolutely owned mid-week games, and that set up a record that pushed for regional and national seeds. This year the midweek losses are piling up and an inability to perform in weekend series-opening games and dropping series to teams like Washington all adds up to a team not performing anywhere near its capabilities and stumbling around to maybe a tourney berth but more likely an early end to a very disappointing season.

It seems like, ever since Tanner Witt got injured 2 1/2 years ago, this pitching staff cannot consistently find the strike zone.

Can't argue this. The team is loaded with talent, but not performing to potential. I mentioned in a post several days ago that what I see is a team that might make the tourney on reputation alone, but we aren't a tourney team right now. The Big XII is not even a very a good baseball conference this year and we're struggling. Even with the struggles we are only 1 game out of first place...that should tell you all you need to know. We have to sweep this 16-16 (4-11) last place Houston team and point the ship in a better direction.

Aside from Lucas Gordon of course. The pitching staff was beginning to look serviceable toward the end of the season last year, Gordon and LBJ were doing well, Stehle and Moorehouse were dangerous and capable at times.

However, this staff has gone completely off the rails this year. Next year is next year but I don't see how Pierce survives next year in the SEC.

It feels like we are on the edge. My gut tells me Boehm will have to move to Friday starter to right this ship and give us a chance and we have to hope Ace can remain effective on Saturday, if so, we still have a chance to win this conference but it's very slim.

I think we'll have to start Boehm and ride him for 7 innings each start. Doesn't matter if it's on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

The other two weekend starters would come from: Ace, Grubbs, and LBJ.
