Alyssa Dry (2015) and Justis Sczcepanski (2015) lead Aledo to District 7-4A district crown.

Flower Mound (Lauren Cox) will play Heritage (Colleyville, TX) on Feb 10, in a bi-district game.

Duncanville (Ariel Atkins & Tasia Foman) have a bi-district game on either 02-10 or 02-11 against a team TBA.

If Flower Mound and Duncanvile keep winning, they would meet in the Regional Quarterfinals.

Edited to add Chasity Patterson (5-6 PG), North Shore HS (class of 2017) as a player to follow as she was impressive in the 2014 summer camp.

I think Lashann Higgs' (2015) team, Cedar Ridge, is going to face Austin High in a bi-district playoff. And potential 2015 recruit Jordan Moore, and Stony Point, will go up against Westlake in the other bi-district matchup.

Junior, Lashann Higgs is just putting up huge scoring numbers game in and game out. Seems like every time I read the Statesman, she's put up 30 or 40 points.

When she and Ariel Atkins are on the floor at the same time in 2015-16, watch out. It will be unlike anything we've seen in Longhorn uniforms in decades.

If both North Shore and Manvel win their next games, they will meet in the regional quarterfinals.

Anybody know where the Duncalle_Irving McA game willl be played? The DMN did not have it. I am thinking about going to see Aledo play Trophy Club and it is at Saginaw Chisholm. May come down which one is closer. Maybe going to see Flower Mound play or ? Too many good choices to watch future Horns !

Looks like Stony Point is going to face district rival Pflugerville, coached by former Horn Nancy Walling, in the next round of the playoffs. The squads split their two matchups this season; Stony Point lost the first by 14, and won the second by 4. Should be a great game.

I was looking at the 5A bracket and it looks like all but two of the teams/players Babhorn listed are still in action; only Flower Mound and Sachse have been eliminated. Looking ahead to possible matchups, regions 2 and 3 are pretty packed. Cedar Ridge, Stony Point and Plano West are all in region 2, while Manvel, Clear Springs and Cypress Woods are still in action in region 3. Duncanville is the lone team still in the mix in region 1, and none of the teams listed are in region 4. So the potential still exists for three of four FF spots to go to teams with Horn signees and/or potential recruits.

I went to see Aledo play friday night and to get an assessment of Dry and Justis Sczcepanski. My perception is as follows:
Dry - She is a good ball handler with either hand, excellent passer, good form on her shot, quick feet on defense and anticipates well and can stay in front, has better foot speed than originally thought as can close on dribbler with a head start when required, a heady player, keeps eyes up and looks downcourt, leads the offense, patient and doesnt force the offense. I think she will be a really good player for the Horns. She can play the 2 if needed so it willl be fun to see how she fits into the two point guards we will have this fall. The only negative I have to say is that all her passes are one handed. This impresses and shows her flair and confidence in her game.........but in my opinion wont routinely cut it at the college level. I imagine the the staff at UT will immediately make that transitiion to the two handed pass MOST of the time and allow the one handed every so often.

Justis Sczcepanski - Good athletic frame, looks all of 6-4'", may look taller especially with her hair style fluffed up, good drop step over her right shoulder, strong to the basket, good hands, can score anywhere around the basket, offense requires her to work a lot from the high post and she does good facing the basket and passing to the blocks (high-low), does not appear to have any mid-range game as never even looked at basket from high post or other, good defensively but would have liked to see more activity away from her girl (help side), comes to the ball well, strong, mpressive young lady that will just get better if she works on her mid-range game to make her girl respect her shot.

Both players have some upside as they are juniiors. They are the team leaders now but as serniors they will mature more.

I am excited about what they will bring to the team in fall of 2015.

thanks for the report, Flash, expecially on Alyssa. Everything I had read on her stated that she had very good speed but I know she had an injury which caused her to miss a lot of the last season. Good to know she is doing well. One thing the UT coaches seem to want from their posts is the ability to hit that midrange jumper so I expect we will see Justis working on that this summer.

I saw Dry for the first time on TV in the playoffs last year and it wasnt a good game for Aledo or Dry. I believe it was Lincoln and the speed and quickness overwhelmed both Dry and others. I realized she had a major high ankle sprain early in the year and felt that had some impact. After healing, I think that was an aberration due to injury last year and she can more than hold her own. I wouldnt classify her as a "burner" but certainly has enough quickness, etc. to play well at the high D1 level.

I only watched Alyssa and Justis in the state semi's last season. Justis' build reminds of KSU's Nicole Ohlde, and she seemed fluid like Ohlde, as well.

Not sure the exact role Dry will fill at Texas; when she first committed, I vaguely recall that she was described a tremendous shooter, especially from long range. If that ends up being her role, and she is good at it, I will gladly take someone who can come in and bust a zone defense with great shooting from beyond the arc.

looks like all games are on Tuesday:

Aledo (27-2) with Alyssa Dry (2015) and Justis Sczcepanski (2015) vs Cleburne (26-7) on Tuesday 02/18/14 @ 7:30p at Mansfield Lake Ridge in a Regional Quarterfinals game.

Duncanville (29-0) with Ariel Atkins (2014) & Tasia Foman (2014) vs South Grand Prairie (22-11) in a Regional Quarterfinal game at Grand Prairie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 02/18/14.

Manvel (33-2) with Jordan Hosey (2014) vs North Shore (28-6) with Chasity Patterson (2017) on Tuesday 02/18/14 @ 8:00p at Clear Lake High School (Carlisle-Krueger) in a Regional Quarterfinal game.

Clear Springs (30-5) with Brooke McCarty (2014) vs Pearland (28-6) on Tuesday 02/18/14 @ 6:00p at Clear Lake in a Regional Quarterfinal game.

Cypress Woods (30-5) with Nancy Mulkey (2016) vs Katy Taylor (26-8) in a Regional Quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Tuesday 02/18/14 at Cypress Lakes.

Cedar Ridge (29-3) with Lashann Higgs (2015) vs Klein Forest (25-7) on Tuesday 02/18/14 @ 7:00p at College Station.

Plano West (27-5) Natalie Chou (2016) vs Richardson (29-6) on Tuesday 02/18/14 @ 6:00p at Plano Sr. High.

Stony Point (29-7) with Jordan Moore (2015) vs Pflugerville (32-4) on Tuesday 02/18/14 @ 7:00p at Georgetown Eastview.

VYPE.com forecasts the regional quarterfinals for Houston area schools

Pearland beat Clear Springs (McCarty) by two.
Manvel (Hosey) won by a landslide.
Stony Point (Jordan Moore) lost to Pflugerville, with Coach Aston in the stands.
Duncanville rolls (Atkins and Foman)

Those are the only final scores I see so far.

“You can’t guard her -- she just has such a magical touch to get the ball inside the rim unlike anything I’ve seen. I’ve been doing this for 27 years, and I haven’t seen a high school player like that.”

Erin Degrate and Waco La Vega continue to roll:

On tuesday, I got to witness just an outstanding game. Plano West vs Richardson. Plano won 65-64 but scored in the last 7 seconds and Richardson had a good shot for the win. There were several lead swings in the last minute where you thought it was won and then won by the other team, etc.

For Horns fans, one reason to go was to see Natalie Chou and see what she was about. UT and others are recruiting her. I was confused as I thought I was going to see a guard but Chou is listed at 6-1" and is a 3-4 at the high school level. She has a lot of skills.......handles the ball well.......she is right handed but never goes right.......always left. She may try and make you think she is going right but always goes hard to the basket to her left. Good hesitation dribble with her left hand then coninues hard with left hand to basket. Here game right now is around the basket and shooting free throws. She shot one 3 pointer and missed. She did not try any mid-range shots. All shots were within 5 feet. Good rebounder. Missed a lot of put backs but it wa a very physical game. She was the tallest player on the floor. Very smooth. Really needs to gain strength but that will come. She doesnt have the WOW factor but certainly was the best player on the floor. Very team oriented and unselfish. Any coach would love her. Demeaner and body language was good.......quiet and confident. High scorer at 20 pts in the game but seemed to be a quiet 20 points. Richardson face guarded her to deny the ball with a very good, physical defender so that had something to do with it. The few times they chose to clear out for her 35 feet away and drive, her defender kept her out...........I think she has adequate quickness for a 2-4 but not for a 1 and you would have to spot her at the 2 if you wanted that. She is only a sophomore so has lots of time to get stronger and better. Overall.........any team would love to have her. I hope she decides on the Horns.
