Texas QB battle unresolved as team prepares for Texas Bowl

Buechele signature win is against Iowa State with the long haired QB. He couldn't get a win against freaking Maryland
I don't blame Boo for the 51 points Maryland hung on the Horns that day. And Boo had a good game against Baylor too. Yes, I know, Baylor. So Baylor, Kansas, and Iowa State which was as good as our win against a very wounded WV team.

Here's the thing, Boo didn't lose any games. He didn't throw up a dying quail gift wrapped win for osu, ttu (and almost wvu) and he didn't fumble at the usc goal line, and then there is Sam's int against ou in the last 2 minutes.

But I completely get that there is no absolute separation between the two. Sam is a better runner, no question about it. Maybe the 18 wheeler package for Sam with a few more options. They could do some creative things with that. Sam has had a few TD passes off of a version of the 18 wheeler after run faking it.

To me it's about game planning.
I think Mizzoo could hang over 30 points on us.
I think Shane is your best chance to score along with them.
But not if you're going to run the QB 10 times and try to play ball control.
Some of our best defensive players won't be on the field.
Again. for once, get creative.
That being said, if we are moving the ball by simply running and play action off the run there is no need to suddenly throw in a double reverse with a halfback pass.
Keep doing what's working until they stop you.

The shovel pass wasn't on Gilbert, it bounced off DJ Monroe's chest. That's on Monroe. And maybe a little on Mack+Greg for trying a finesse play from one freshman to another (and a finesse play generally meant to counteract a strong pass rush, which wasn't the case at that time anyway).
OK. Probably a lot on Mack and Greg. Maybe they viewed it as a safe play for the quarterback and a surprise play to get out of a hole. At any rate, it turned to s- - - and poor Gilbert was seriously shaken over it. I felt for him, but he came back and played pretty well. With Colt I think Texas wins, and I am sticking to that.

And not only that, one of our offensive lineman dove at the feet of the Alabama player instead of simply bear-hugging him which should have held him up and run out the clock.

But our offense also only put up 14 points until a meaningless garbage-time TD while down 3 scores in the final minute.

i think it's pretty clear when a kid walks on to the field and is going to be special. Short of that, it seems like there is always going to be debate. Sometimes the best option still isn't leading us to a 10-2 record. That doesn't make that QB choice wrong. It means they aren't Vince or Colt or Major or Peter.

As recruiters and developers, I put that all on the coaches. Once we have two options, like we do now, and neither is a clear choice, I think we have our opinions about both, but stay supportive of both.

Vince's record was something like 30-2 as a starter. That's not about "limiting mistakes" or "coaching." It's about Vince being Vince. I think Vince could have gone at least 10-2 this season.

In the 2017, we don't have a special QB. I think Sam could be in the future. But they both get so banged up. I think that's why Sam makes those crazy mistakes at the end of games. He's way less than 100% at the end. Playing both throughout the game increases the likelihood of both (at least one?) being fresh at the end. We have enough receivers and, in my opinion, each QB has his favorites. I'd have my Shane depth chart (WR/TE/RB package) and my Sam depth chart (WR/TE/RB package).
