Texas @ Notre Dame 12/05/2024

I'm amazed every time we see anything besides a zone. Vic has proven he doesn't know how to teach the ball movement to beat it and we don't have the 3 point shooters to.

What's the point of having depth if you won't use it?

Woulda been nice to see us try get the ball inside in overtime but we fought through one of our not so good games to keep it a game. :bevo:

Wow, turnovers really hurt Texas. Bad decisions vs. little, weak passing. Over twenty chances lost for additional points. Such a team letdown after Harmon tied it to go to overtime. Oh well, at least Texas wasn't embarrassed on the road. Hopefully, they won't return to those types of games.

Is it me or are we celebrated more for losing than for winning/playing well??:e-thinking::e-thinking::e-thinking:
I'm not celebrating nuttin! Texas gave this game away on turnovers and not keeping up with quick guards. For the life of me, some of the players looked like they were just standing around admiring Hidalgo's speed. :brickwall:

Would also be nice to rid our room with the "fans" that only show up when thing aren't going well or to just predict gloom for our school..just a thought.

Wasn't speaking bout you friend. But I didn't understand what was the play calling in OT. Outside jumpers? Not our strong suit...

ND clamped down on our inside game in the 4th qtr which created multiple turnovers. We got a quickie in OT but that wasnt going to last.
One of the keys to beating a zone is passing not dribbling and taking a couple of steps then holding the ball over your head.
Would like to have seen more of Carlson and for the life of me if your going to shoot outsiide jumpers why keep your " best" outside shooter on the bench for most of the 2nd half ?

Truly for as sloppy as we played they should have crushed us. Give Harmon a little more time to get back in the groove. Same for Phelia. Love Jones but I think she might need to backup Oldacre maybe. I hate to lose but I saw a lot to be excited about despite all the unforced errors.

23 turnovers and we go to overtime. SMH but not necessarily in a bad way :idk:

*Proud of the way we fought back and got into overtime in a hostile environment.
*Glad to see Oldacre continuing to impose herself and grow into being the type of center we need.
*Very disappointed in the TOs, most of which were unforced, just results of poor decisions.
*I've been screaming about ball fakes and ball movement against zone defense for the past 4 years.
*I don't feel we're fully utilizing the talent we have.
*Need to get that rotation balanced and straightened out.
*I'd still rather see us lose a game like this than to watch us beat the hell out of Upper Midwest Panhandle of Ebenezer Holy Rock State University.
*We'll be fine.

Typical Schaefer Tx team. I think we"ve only won once ( against Stanford) in these early top 10 meetings.
Rough around the edges till all roles are figured out. We will win some ugly games and lose some ugly games.
Much like tonight the rotation will be 8-9 players later in the year.
We'll be in the tournament and a dangerous matchup.

Good game. We did some good things, but we had trouble, especially in the first half with their "high ball screens" and subsequent layups, as Rebecca kept saying. I just saw a little of the W.V. game, but it looked like the same story in that game from what I saw. Once good quick drivers get around us, we are sunk. Many coaches would put a stop to that with a zone, but of course we're not going to do that. Oldacre was a real bright spot.

I know it's early, but I feel like brnkj, that we aren't yet fully getting the most of a whole lot of talent. Why Holle was on the bench throughout the second half is a mystery to me, the way she was draining threes in the first. I guess Vic likes Phelia's defense better, but her confidence isn't there yet with her offense. It wasn't Booker's best shooting night. I miss her at point guard, where she could exert more control over the game. Rori was super clutch at the end. Good effort overall. We have a bunch of potential. It would be fun to get another chance at them in the playoffs.

Couldn’t watch all of it, but the stuff I did, I agree, shows some good and bad. No reason to toss the harpoon on anything. But, zone defense is going to be a struggle, and this has been true for a few years. I don’t coach, but if I did, this would be the thing we’d go over all the time. And as stout as our defense usually is I don’t know why we weren’t pressuring more, especially earlier in the game.

Rori struggled tonight, despite a nice tying shot and foul draw at the end. I actually thought, early on, she got beat too much by Hidalgo. Hidalgo will always get her points but I thought Rori’s defense early was soft. Then Rori was getting tons of space on the perimeter but she couldn’t make them pay tonight.

Wish Justice had gotten more time. I think she has a sweet midrange game that could’ve helped challenge the zone.

I know we needed to “break the zone” and go inside, when your players are Harmon, Phelps, Booker, Moore, and Oldacre on the floor, it seems odd that Oldacre is getting the most touches in crunch time. (I may be fixating on one sequence.)

If Moore gets that put back towards the end, that’s the difference!

Ladies need to remember when down 6, that there are two ways to cut the deficit in half. Wish we had more dribble penetration and drives to basket for scores.

I actually thought ND didn’t take enough advantage of their screens and rolls with the post high rolling to the basket.

We almost had enough…just fell short. Final score doesn’t tell the full tale of the tape. Ladies are going to remember this one.

In conclusion, LEARN TO BREAK THE ZONE. Even when we were leading or it was close, idk that we really were beating it, just getting lucky on lower percentage shots.

To have so many turnovers and still go into overtime gives me a lot of hope. At this point I think Oldacre needs to be moved into the starting lineup. She was EVERYWHERE! Harmon played probably her worst game in a Texas uniform but she’s still getting her groove back. That zone offense also needs some big adjustments

As is typical of games called by espn announcers, I had to hit the mute button by the second qtr. I’m sure the floor moppers had to be assigned by the announcer table as Lobo and crew were slobbering so much about ND.

And, Vic must do something to get higher quality teams for pre-season games. No more complaining that no one will come to Austin. Get on a plane and go to them. Texas looked stunned that they couldn’t run up 30-40 points by the second qtr. as had been so easy some of the earlier games.

And, that being said, we’ll be ok.

Postgame presser is available on the LHN app. Vic praised his team for toughness. He was proud of the way they battled in a hostile environment on the road, and mentioned what a great atmosphere it was to play in.

He was very disappointed with the 23 turnovers against the zone defense, as that was what cost us the game. He said that a lot of times we didn't make the right reads, or just simply we're trying too hard to attack it.

Surprisingly, his demeanor was very positive and said he learned a lot about his team in that game and knew he would. Focus is to get back to work and be ready to get back on the road to Virginia and go play @ JMU. He said he would learn a lot about his team on this quick turnaround trip as well... I'm assuming that means he's anxious to see how they respond.

I was so nervous about this game and really wanted the win. Surprisingly I was far from discouraged after the loss. 23 turnovers and still took it to OT on the road against a really good team. It’s clear Rori is not quite herself but I remain amazed at her recovery. I’ll bet you Rori would love another shot at this team. I personally thought Hidalgo got away with fouling Harmon several times with no calls. I’m sure Booker would embrace a rematch as well.

Oldacre is doing a great job and I hope Jones hasn’t aggravated an old back ailment or something because we really need both of them playing crucial minutes.

Like clockwork we should all have learned by now how much improvement Vic gets out of his teams in January, February and March from November and December. Lot of new pieces to the puzzle right now.

And finally, I have always taken up for the Rucco/Lobo coverage for ESPN, but for the first time I muted them in a TX game and I barely made it to the end of the 1st Qtr where they really shoveled it on. Texas was leading at the end of the quarter but you would have thought ND was up by double digits and they didn’t know any names of players in burnt orange. I really enjoyed Craig Way’s broadcast from that point on. It was ridiculous and I didn’t have the stomach to see if it improved. Maybe I’ll stick with the Longhorn broadcast more often.

In past years, there was very good pregame and post game coverage on Youtube. I have tried to use the "new LHN app" and find it very disappointing as to navigation and content.

Hope whoever was making the YOUTUBE posts/uploads will start again.... there has not been any new content there for way too long :(

All of this! 🤘
