I almost forgot one my favorites in Houston: the cariac arrest burger at Dry Creek in the Heights. Huge burger with bacon and fried egg. Perfect for a hangover. One burger and few glassses of tea to rehydrate, then head home and go right back to bed.
Also, no burger thread can be complete without a mention of Otto's and the OSB (Otto's Super Burger).

I miss Otto's, great burgers and crappy bbq but i loved it still. the burgers are good but not worth the $50.00 cab ride...
I hate that not only is The Porch in Dallas on the list, but they are rated #6. I know nothing about their burger, but I do know they are squatting on the righful home of where the late great Barley House used to sit.
I am glad Snuffer's made the list, but as I have said for years; they have jumped the shark. Everything has gone downhill since the massive effort to expand.
An out of the way one that I just remembered was Mursky's Icehouse in Huntsville. Absolutely fantastic, and I generally see burgers as pretty interchangeable for the most part.
THEU...I would absolutely second Williams being on the list...and it has nothing to do with the fact that I grew up in Hillsboro and might have had the first, or one of the first Wolf Burgers ever made. I have always thought their fries were outstanding, as well. I've lived in Austin damn near twice as long as I did in Hillsboro, and I've traveled a good bit over the years. I've had many, many, many great burgers, both home and away. I can't say I've ever had one better than Williams...maybe as good, but not better.
I ended up talking to the guy that photographed most of the burgers shown in the article, and he told me that the list is not presented in any kind of order. The intent was just to show the top 50 overall, as opposed to ranking them from 1 to 50.
I think they did a pretty poor job of making that clear in the article.
RichUT,
Next time you see the photographer ask why they didn't include William's in Hillsboro.
I can only assume it is because they don't even have a sign.
I've been to Snuffers and I like Snuffersgreen chili swiss burger, but honest to God I can cook a better burger in my frying pan and I don't need Angus or Kobe beef to do it either.
I thought Rusty's Grill was supposed to be for cooking and recipes only. I opened this thread expecting to find fabulous burger recipes and only one of you even mentions grilling a burger at home? I live in disappointment. I think every one who posted about a burger joint on this thread should be punished by the administrators by being forced to call the restaurant they mentioned to beg for the recipe.
I've found that the key is to place the burger in between the buns. Did a lot of trial and error on that one, but I'm telling you, it's the only way to do it if you're serious about making a good burger.
What a bunch of lazy bums. OK, my favorite actually came from this board a while back. When you put the patties together add some crumbled blue cheese and diced jalapeno. Grill to medium rare after seasoning patties with salt, pepper and garlic. Place on a toasted bun with melted cheese of your choice and add your favorite condiments. Yum.....
27. Black Sheep Lodge, Austin, Black Buffalo Burger
...and it was tasty. I'll be back for it.
Nice flavor to the meat. White or wheat bread choice. Onions, Tomatos, Pickles, Blue Cheese and BBQ sauce. I removed the pickles, but other than that, just ate it as is, and it was good enough to go back for another some time.
Their Sweet Potato fries and Onion Rings were good too. (You can ask for 1/2 and 1/2 even though it's not on the menu)
Hey EPT,
Is Hamburger Inn (Alameda i think) still there in El Paso? Spent many a late night, early morning trying to eat through a hangover on their hamburger/hotdog entre. Put a little chile on those and they were some good eats.
