The Grape at #1? Really. I have been drug over there many a time for wine and cheese on dates but would never pick them as top burger.

I can really only speak for San Antonio, but I can tell you I lived here all my life and for sure and for certain I have never even heard of a single place they have on their list from San Antonio. Not having Chris Madrid's even on the list when it has been named one of the top 10 burgers in the country (I know, there are a million different people who rate burgers) is a dead giveaway that they have no clue what they are talking about.

I laugh at that list, seriously. They do not know of what they speak. I am sure all those burgers are good but they left of some obvious places in just Austin alone.

their barbecue list was the same story. TM rankings are fraudulent as all getout, and it doesn't even make for a good debate/discussion, since they are so far off.

Casino
Jackalope
Hill's/The Tavern
Dan's
Hut's
Mike's
Dirty's

...just a few that come to mind that probably belong above most of the ones on the list that are in Austin.

What about the almighty Park Cities standard: Jack's Burger House burger?

Sure, I think it's crap, but I don't understand. I didn't grow up in the Park Cities. And did they included those overcooked hockey pucks knows as Goff's Burgers? How could they not be included?

It's just a shame maddogs or GM steakhouse aren't still around (on the drag)

If you are in Houston--Santa Fe flats on 249 at Jones-- green chili cheeseburger with angus-- pretty good and their green or red enchiladas are not bad either

#2 Counter Cafe-Where is this, and has anyone tried it, specifically the burgers, and how do they compare to Casino el Camino?
I have to say, I have been to Mighty Fine Burgers twice now, and that is a tasty burger. Nothing wrong with it.

Counter Cafe is where GM Steakhouse on N. Lamar used to be...just north of 6th on the west side of the street. I haven't been there, but I've heard good things about it.

I agree with you about Mighty Fine, though their burger is not the main draw for me. I really like their chopped chili dog and their fries are some of the best I've ever had. They advertise them as the only fresh cut crinkle cut fries in Texas. Also, the fresh squeezed lemonade is a plus. One thing about them and their 'Sister' Rudy's, they may not be the very best, but they are consistently good.

Kincaid's in Fort Worth. Pretty damn good.

it's good but the chain locations around the city are not imo. I do like Dutch's at #8 but wouldnt put them that high, maybe not even in top 40. That list is kind of a joke. Like someone said before there are some great spots in Austin not on the list (at least a half dozen) and they left off a bunch in Houston. (Cafe Michael Burger in Galveston): yeah, ive bee nthere a lot because its the only place on the west end to get a burger but top 50 in Texas?

Did they send some yankee on this tour?

Beck's Prime in Houston? Really? Yeah, its a decent burger for a fix but how can you leave off Lankford Grocery or Totem's?

I know they are all close to the same, but Burger Tex II is on Guadalupe and is not owned by the same people that own the Oak Hill and Airport locations...and maybe one more somewhere that doesn't come to mind right now.

Had the counter burger today. It's a quality burger, but it can't be 2nd best in state when it isn't even 2nd best in Austin.

Pros: Great tasting bun (slightly sweet), real cheddar cheese melted perfectly, nice outer crust to the patty

Cons: Meat to bun ratio is way off. It either needs 30% less bun, 30% more meat, or some sort of middle ground. Level of doneness is not consistent from burger to burger, and they don't ask you how done you want it. Mine was medium wellish, and my friend's was medium to nearly medium rare.

The place is super tiny and clearly was not ready for this level of publicity. We got there for lunch at 11:15 and still had to wait nearly 30 minutes to get seated.

The breakfast dishes people were eating looked awesome though.

Anyway, Roaring Fork and Casino have better burgers in that weight class (bigger patty division) for sure. I'd also be just as happy with a Top Notch or Dirty's burger.

Amigo's in Pflugerville has a good greasy burger. It's on Grand Avenue Parkway. That may be what he's refering to? It can't be Mama Jack's because that ain't what it used to be. Maybe he talking about Springhill?...but then who the hell would order a burger at Springhill?

I live in El Paso and the only other burger joint ive tried on that list is Burger Tex, and it is a fine burger.

Ive had Roscoe's #43 many times,as it is a El Paso tradition, and does belong on that list.

However i tried Toro #4 last week ONLY because of this list and i was very unimpressed. Very dry meat, but overall a decent burger but i couldve paid half the price and got a MUCH better burger at Whataburger.
