Texas @ KSU 03/04/2023

I may be wrong on the timing but Sonya went to the hospital about 4 weeks ago. From team videos and by traveling with the team to Norman, Sonya appeared to be on the mend and improving. Unless there was a relapse, I don't believe she has made a second trip to the hospital that caused her to miss Senior Night.
I don't profess to know for sure.... just repeating what was previously posted. Maybe she felt slighted (and maybe Vic also)for not being honored on senior night because of the UT rule that prevented her from being recognized. Who knows?

The Big12 is a b**** this year.
Is it though? Not a single team in the national Top 10. We are the only team who has a chance to host a sub-regional based on the recent reveals.

So many teams are without a key starter or two like KSU, ISU, Baylor, and us. Teams definitely not as strong as they could be if healthy. We have 8 losses, and 8 other teams have 9 losses or more. OU has only 5 losses.

Only 5 teams are shoe-ins to make the NCAA tournament; 3 others on the bubble. I really want us to get to the Sweet 16, but getting more than one team is most likely not going to happen.

So, have to say this is a very "weak" year for the Big 12 conference overall. Baylor and Iowa State are nowhere near as good as they have been the last few years. Just a bunch of average teams whose inconsistency from one game to the next clouds the outcome.

Alex Loeb interviewed Schaefer on his coach's show. He asked Vic "Do you hope to have her back at least by the NCAA tournament or you're still not sure?" His reply was, "I don't think we're sure when we'll get her back or if we'll get her back. We'll re-evaluate her probably Monday. She won't play this weekend; won't travel. We'll do an evaluation on Monday and see what the future holds".

Obviously, things changed for the worse as 4 weeks ago Vic kept telling everyone numerous times that she was "day to day".

Even with Sonya healthy, I wasn't convinced this team with hardly any depth could win 3 games on 3 consecutive days in Kansas City to defend their conference tourney title; without Sonya, no chance. The #1 seed gets the best time slots, and the most "rest"; if that slips through our fingers this weekend, it will make it all that much tougher to win just 2 games in KC. In all honestly, if we make it to the conference tourney championship (to be played on Selection Sunday), that limits our rest prior to our first game in the NCAA tourney; so, I'm torn as to what is best for this team in all areas.

I saw that too. Not the update you want to hear. Let's hope its not the issues discussed in this video that apparently happens in about 10-20% of the cases:

KD had one too:

But we know the AP Top 10 is a popularity contest for most of the season, and at one point we had 7 teams projected for the tourney. We currently have 8 teams whose Net Rankings suggest they could make the tourney - automatic bids will prevent that, but we have 8 teams in the Top 68 Net Rankings. We have beaten up on one another and W/L records look bad. I wouldn’t be surprised to see deep runs for 2-3 of our teams this year. But who knows.

While that’s good news she’s not exactly pivotal to this team’s success. But she’s at least a body that can relieve others for a spell.
She was good for 10 points against ISU and 7 against WV. But I think her simply being an extra body is huge right now.

Big day. Our game @ 4pm. And oU travels to OSU @ 2pm. Looking at the Cowgirls WBB twitter account, they have been hyping this game all week and plan to sellout the joint. https://twitter.com/OSUWBB
A lot of motivation over there. They feel disrespected at not being ranked and are ready to make their case for a tourney bid.
Gonna be a full afternoon with the title on the line! We need to go get it!!!

Uhh Vic, we held 'em to only 14 first half points on their home court (that is really amazing) and we have a 25 point lead at the half. I know there is still plenty of time left, but are you really as upset and disappointed as you appear on my TV screen?
:e-face-tears:

We increased the lead another 2 pts after 3. Rori having a rough day offensively, but doing everything else. 9 assists already and has as many blocks as Hadi and Taylor. Jak obviously wasn't ready to go yet.

As much as I wanted to own the title outright, a Big 12 Co-Championship between Texas and Oklahoma is pretty poetic.

OK, can someone tell me who the Texas player was in jersey #40? My old lady brain ain't workin'.

Just what the doctor ordered; a game where Vic gets to keep his jacket on

Vic gets the 2nd conference championship trophy in his 3rd season with the possibility of another next week in KC where the Longhorns will be the #1 seed and play the winner between Tech and KSU.

Big 12 Champs everything else is grind it out. Proud of how they responded especially Shaylee and Shay. Tay Jones brought it you could tell she was locked in and our leader was just that her shot wasn’t falling but she set the table for everybody else and said come eat. The first round matchup either Kstate or Tech both are going to gunning for us.

Let’s see the accolades now I think stats win out and Joens wins POY, Littlepage-Buggs FOY, Taylor Jones 6th woman of year but it could be a couple of others, Rori Harmon DPOY, and idk for COY I would say OSU coach but honestly it should be Vic. After everything this team to go through and to be first he should win it.
First team Big 12
Rori Harmon
Shaylee Gonzales
Deyona Gatson
2nd team
Sonya Morris
Taylor Jones
Honorable Mention
Faye
Holle
Big 12 all fresh team
Amina Muhammad for sure

Great win by the team. Credit to the players and coaching staff for do something that hadn't been done in years. Especially when you look at all of the injuries that the team has had to deal with. Technically they're co-champs but they know, and Oklahoma knows that Texas is the outright Champ.
