Texas hosts OSU in Big 12 opener

but a substitution every 30 seconds is ridiculously excessive.
Exaggerate much? :rolleyes1:

The players and coaches are quite aware of the problem and working on fixing it.

Sutton was the game’s top performer. She scored a team-high 14 points to go with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Yet she admitted her team’s inability to be patient led to its turnover problems.

“We need to be making the plays simple,” she said. “Like (Aston) we were trying to hit too many home runs.”

They may be aware of it, but they are the true definition of insanity. I hear the same thing on nearly every corporate conference call I'm on. The same people stating the same problem over and over again yet never fixing it. Hearing them over and over again makes me throw up just like hearing our coach and players say the same thing over and over again, but doing nothing about it but give lip service.

The current staff clearly isn't CAPABLE of fixing it... 7 yrs of the SOS.

If it ain't been fixed in 7 years... GUESS WHAT?

@BabHorn dream much? :rolleyes1: Stay tuned... Big 12 play has just begun and there are lots of well-coached teams.

Its one thing to say that you are unhappy with the current team's level of turnovers (I know I am) or Karen's in-game adjustments . Or to say, as I think would be correct, that this year has been--for obvious reasons--a slight backslide. It's another thing entirely to pretend that KA and her teams have not generally gotten better.

Over the last 6 complete years almost all offensive stats have improved year to year. PPG is up every year climbing from the low 60s to high 70s (80 last year) Turnovers per game have decreased every year. Assist to turnover ratio has climbed from terrible numbers in the first few years to a tolerable 1:1ish. Shooting percentage has shown significant improvement as well.

Again, it's fine to suggest you don't think it's improving fast enough, but to entirely deny that Karen has improved ignores realiity.

Nobody said KA didn't improve the program... there wasn't much place to go but up. What is being said is this:

*Talent has been brought in but not been developed to full potential
*Perrenial problems with half court execution and turnovers
*1-14 vs Baylor
*No conference championships
*No conference tourney championships
*Perrenial Sweet 16 is not elite level (especially considering the talent) and not.much of an accomplishment when you only have to beat two lower ranked teams on your home floor

Bottom line... Yes there's been improvement but perpetual mediocrity isn't good enough! Period.

A few of those things we can agree on. KA has yet to get the team to Baylor's level, no question. Ergo the absence of conference titles.

Am I happy with this year, certainly not yet. But there's a difference between a realistic disappointment and hyperbolic arguments portraying the program a a dumpster fire. The halfcourt execution/turnover argument ignores last year's squad that had a much higher PPG and assist to turnover ratio than any sqaud since FF 02-03. The failure to develop argument ignores both high end development like Ariel, who left our team ready to start in the WNBA on a finals team, and the development of lower ranked players like Brooke or transfers like White. If your point is that two highly ranked players in a single class transferred out, then I guess Geno and Mulky are terrible at developing talent as well. Finally, while I am not happy with the last 2 sweet sixteen exits (especially last year's), calling it mediocrity is BS. I do not think that word means what you think it means. Only a handful of P5 teams have been in the sweet 16 for each of the last 4 years

Delusional:rolleyes1:

Sweet 16 is mediocre when you've got a roster full of HS All-Americans.

Let's see how the Big 12 shakes out this year.

Coached Aston has obviously improved the program and the turnovers and offensive production was really good last year with an experienced team. But for the 7 years that Karen has been the coach the basketball decision making of her teams have been horrible for the most part. I would much rather watch a team like Iowa State that doesn’t necessarily have great talent but when you watch them play you can obviously tell that they’re well coached and disciplined. Watching Karen’s teams it always feels as if she just rolls the balls out and that they’re making it up as they go.

Again I just want the program to get every ounce out of the players. And for them to at lease look like they’re well coached. As I’ve said before, Karen needs to improve as a coach or put her ego to the side and bring in an assistant coach that knows how to run an offense and is good at making coaching adjustments on the fly. It’s been 7 years now enough is enough.

I generally agree with you. Karen's team can look out-of-control. If you look at our losses, and narrow escapes like OSU, they generally come down to a team that looks OK to solid for 32-35 minutes of the game, but falls apart for 1 or 2 stretches. Those stretches look terrible, because they are terrible. To me that arises from what I believe to be Karen's main coaching fault, her first instinct in making an adjustment is to change personnel rather than changing scheme. Ironically, though this year will be a down one, I am seeing some small improvement in this area. Whether it is the implementation of better zone defense, use of a floppy offense, better screens (hard not to get better when you think back to the terrible screens set in her first 3 years), or the willingness to let players play through mistakes sometimes, she is making steps.

Do I expect better? hell yes. Could the improvements happen more rapidly were she to bring in an offensive scheme specialist? Again yes. I, like you, would love to see that happen.

I dream every night and dream well, especially since retirement. Thank you.

I also don't make ridiculous statements like "subs every 30 seconds." I know you and some others dislike and want Coach Aston out. At least use correct data in your arguments, which is what caught my eye, not your opinion against Coach Aston, to which you are entitled to, whether or not I agree with it.

@BabHorn some of us speak figuratively from time-to-time... I know that's probably something that's difficult for you to understand being that your modus operandi is simply to regurgitate facts that you've found elsewhere.... I suppose in your mind it makes you feel like some professional journalist with an expert opinion or something of the sort.:rolleyes1: While we all have our place, if you want yours respected then you need to show some for others'. :tap:

Ooh, OUCH! :smile1::lmao:

brnkj --- I agree with some of your ideas and not others. I can only speak for myself, but, to me, your manner of expressing yourself is almost always angry and sarcastic. Some people on the board agree with you and respond in a similar manner. Others are put off by your constant badmouthing of the coaches and how bad you think we are. It's just interesting to see how different personalities express themselves on the board. Babhorn seems to me to be like your antithesis --- He will sometimes give negative feedback, but most of the time comes across as very positive and sportsmanlike. Most posters probably fall somewhere in between. I guess the disparity in opinions is what makes it interesting. It would be boring if we were all just a cheerleading squad, and too unpleasant to read if we were all just a bunch of angry critics.

I agree... as I said previously we all have our place.
