Now if some Texas Fans would show UConn the respect that UConn fans and reporters have for your team .

I don't like Geno's style or the attitude of Uconn's fans, but I will never dispute that your basketball program is a dynasty surpassed only by Ms. Summit and her Vols. There is a reason she chose to no longer play that rivalry and it wasn't fear of losing. You have a coach who writes a book in which he thinks it's funny to trash her - a woman who paved the way for creating a fanbase and national success in this sport. You have a coach who - with some of the best players in the nation - makes comments like "we've got Turassi and you don't" never once giving credit to the talent of the other four players on the floor with her. I am sure we will start hearing "We've got Moore..." soon enough. You have an unquestionably successful coach who, quite frankly, you can keep. I like what we've got and what we've got is your number. See you next year 'cause this is one rivalry I'm going to relish - a rivalry where winning a basketball game has nothing to do with proving what a great University we have. That fact is a given win or lose which gives our fans the luxury of being gracious and respectful in victory as well as defeat. I am very proud to have graduated from an institution that would have sent Geno packing years ago - a University that actually makes it a priority to remind its studetns, staff and fans that respect and integrity are the rule not the exception at every game regardless of the opponent or the outcome. We could have hired away any coach in the nation and we hired Gail for a reason. Hook 'em Horns and God Bless Coach G!!

Hey, speaking for myself - I love Geno! He was my first choice to replace Jody. I thought that he could really rebuild the program and bring back the fans with his charisma/antics. He is rough, and treats his team like the first rate top notch program it is. Its rough, but they don't have to go. And he has produced the best teams I've ever seen play - better than the Vols at their best. So good luck UCONN. Sorry some fans here take it all too seriously. You are clearly the team this year, a notch above everyone, and just too much for our young horns this year. But we'll be back!

I don't know where anyone would get that Texas (fans players coaches) does not respect UConn. Other than a distaste for the coach's style. There isn't even much dislike or hatred, both of which can exist with respect.

I should add that that is a great article. Very well written. This is a gem:

Auriemma nodded when asked about this -- it's the attitude [referring to Moore] he wants a talented player like Tina Charles to have, too. He is trying to get Charles to more fully embrace the concept that you can do something to make a difference the entire time you are on the court. He sees that mentality continually from Moore and junior Renee Montgomery. "I want Tina to watch Maya and Renee play and see how they impact the game in so many ways," Auriemma said.

You're wrong in your analysis of Geno's statement. In Geno's eyes Tina is just as good as Maya and especially Renee. It's Tina's lack of effort that is holding Tina back, not her talent. It also could prevent UConn from winning a National Championship. UConn needs it's post players to play to the best of their abilities if they want to beat Tenn, UNC or LSU.

How would Gail have answered a question if one of Texas media asked her about the public chewing out of your center during last nights game. Would they even ask the question? The CT media definitely would have and Geno would state what he said

Isn't it interesting how some people make Geno out to be such a monster. Yet, the top players are still banging on his door to get in? hmmm

Right, since history always shows that when a successful coach is also a jerk, nobody good wants to play for him and so he stops being successful.

UConn is a great program. Geno is a great coach. There is a fine line between swagger and arrogance. Not sure Geno knows it exists or if he cares.

I get that Geno probably feels that Tina is as good a player but needs to step up even more...I just don't get making a comment like that to a journalist. That is a conversation that remains in the locker room, practice court or coaches office. And I would imagine that Gail would have generalized her answer rather than specified it.

I have to admit that, having watched Tenn and Uconn, this season, I think UConn has the best team and rightly is ranked the favorite to win the national championship. That said, it doesn't mean that I have to admire the coach and his tactics/antics. He's one of the top three coaches for sure. But I don't like his method of publicly berating his players. But that's just me.

Edited to add:
I am looking forward to a possible 2010 game with UConn as I think the Horns will have the best chance since 2003 to win a title then. They will have depth, outstanding talent at all positions and experience in the NCAAs.

Stat - you must not have watched the McDonald's All-American Girls Bb Game tonight. The players signed to attend U-Conn and play for Gino were exceptional players. I think there were 5 on the court and you say that “nobody good wants to play for him.” By the way, his current team ain;t chopped liver. They are a VERY GOOD TEAM!

As for the U-Conn fans; IMO, they are as good as any of the Big XII fans. Of course with Baylor, OU and TECH fans being what they are, there are fewer decent fans around here. After the 2003 Final Four Semi's, I had easily 10 U-Conn fans come up to me and compliment out team and several agreed that the officials gave the game to Tarassi & U-Conn, probably for a bigger TV audience. These U-Conn fans were under no requirement to say anything, but they did and I thanked them most profusely while biting my tongue so as not to agree with them too hardily. Even two days later we had U-Conn fans telling us the same things as the evening after the game.

Gino is a very good coach and U-Conn has good fans. Maybe your attitude keeps you from meeting their good fans?

We are not always good fans, especially where Tech, OU, and the maggies are concerned.

All you have to do to learn about UConn fans (and Tenn fans too, for that matter) is spend a little time on the women's college basketball ESPN forum

Both are great teams, and have had great seasons which will continue a few more weeks. But goodness, they can be irritating.

#1UTFAN I do not know what game you were watching.Conn only had 2 players in the all - america game Rutgers and LSU had 5 players a piece. The best players in that game were. Nikki Speed and Ashley Gayle and Brooklyn Pope and the girl out of the Houston Area.

Nothing succeeds like success. I don't see anything wrong with Geno A's coaching style. If you're a high school star who wears her feelings on her sleeve, you probably want a coach who's more touchy-feely. (No LSU jokes here, please.)

If you want to win, big, you can do a lot worse than heading to Storrs. I'm quite happy with Coach G's style, and I think she's a great fit for UT. I think UT will be at UConn's level sooner, rather than later. That being said, I see nothing to gain by ragging on UConn's coach, or his style. It sounds too much like sour grapes.
