Texas / Colo State

Could be - they also beat the living life out of the the overall #1 seed of this tournament and defending national champions… so if I’m Creighton, I’ll take that loss and that win versus what Texas got which was a win over Colorado State, an OT loss to Houston and a win over Tech as the major accomplishments of the season. What would you choose?

I bleed burnt orange so I'd take Texas over anything I've seen from the Bluejays.

I agree Creighton has a strong resume. They split with both Uconn and Marquette and finished 2nd in the BigEast. They should have an easy time with Oregon in the next round too.

We may not see a better game in this tournament than that KY - Oak game! That shooting exhibition from BOTH teams was EPIC!

We just don’t have that! Unfortunately we just Don’t! I’ll cheer hard on Saturday but WE HAVE ZERO perimeter threats!

if you can’t spread the floor in the MODERN GAME, and bury 3’s….. GOOD LUCK!

Hook ‘em!

I sure am glad I am only really a fan of Texas football for the most part. No sense being disappointed most of the time by other sports, too, like the majority on this pisser of a thread.

I met her once in an airport about 15yrs ago. She was nice. I thanked her for bringing the school a national championship and sustained respect. But I disagree with her if she said that. A 1-29 team who won their last game isn’t good. Just like a 29-1 team who lost their last game isn’t bad. Creighton is better than Texas this year. That’s almost indisputable if you’ve watched Creighton. Their offensive scheme and skill is vastly superior.

Compared to the baseball board, this thread is overflowing with sunshine pumping optimism. I,on the other hand, have it on good authority that I am a pessimist.

I bleed orange too. I’m just being real. Their offense is fluid and smooth, and ours is stagnant. My recognition of that doesn’t make me less of a Longhorn.

This Texas team has multiple offensive deficiencies, the most glaring is no consistent shooters from 3 except Abmas and he has some difficulty getting clean looks since the defense can entirely focus on him. They have no one who can consistently score in the mid-range like Allen did last year. Disu can score, but when he has to over handle the ball to get his shot he becomes a turnover machine. Weaver has improved immensely over the season in finding the open spot for a pass and getting to the rim. This team really needed the two recruits that went pro, especially Holland who has an outside shot and can create in the mid-range.

Damn I feel like some folks on here are rooting against this team. We were a 3 pt favorite and won by 12. But that isn't good enough, let's dig through the stat line to find something to nitpick.

Disu was 5/18 and Abmas was 5/15 and we won by 12.

I guess people who were ready to crap all over this team are pissed they have to wait at least one more game.

And before all the Tennessee and RB lovers appear, look at the SEC today. Losses by 2 higher seeded teams and 3 seed Kentucky in a dog fight with Oakland.
We move forward, yes. But this game was more of a Colorado State loss than a Texas win. (Just like the game a couple of days ago was a Virginia loss more than a Colorado State win). Can you see the difference? I’m not grateful for getting to eat a s*!t burger today if I’m sick tomorrow.

Bingo!

Texas just won an NCAA tournament game for the third year in a row. After not winning one throughout the Shaka Smart era, I’ll take an ugly win like tonight every time over some pretty to watch loss. Survive and advance that is all the first game is ever about. :hookem:

This team is not beating Tennessee shooting like they did tonight. 1-14 from 3. They will have to shoot 50% from 3 to have a chance. Problem is Tennessee has the size and athleticism to completely shut down Abmas and Disu. Texas will have to rebound much better. Giving up 13 offensive rebounds to csu is bad enough, but Tennessee can absolutely destroy the Horns on the boards. Tennessee is similar to fifth ward although I think fifth ward is better. On the upside, Texas didn’t play well so based on their seesaw season, they should be due a much better game.
Who is "fifth ward." The bloody nickel?

"Fifth Ward" is the home of Wheatley & the old Kashmere Gardens high schools, which won a few State Championships between them. Can't remember the Kashmere coach's name, but Wheatley was coached by Jackie Carr, great man & great coach.

Here’s my sunshine-pumping comment for the evening: the Horns made it past the 1st round, which 32+ teams will fail to do. Hooray for that.

Not sure I've ever seen at least a semi-quality team score only 3 points over 15+ minutes of play. I don't even think we did that to OU the time we beat them in the neighborhood of 67-33 with them going like 1/23 behind the arc.

Also not sure I can ever recall a team winning by 12 while only recording 3 total assists as a team. Not sure what to make of that. And neither team had a single bench assist all game.

St Pete's ain't happening.

It's UT vs UT coming up next.

Bet on the Orange UT team.

2 awesome coaches. But only one is known for excelling in Tournaments!

Houston, Jack Yates HS, & Texas Southern are all in the Third Ward, which is separated from Fifth Ward by Buffalo Bayou. Decades ago, the Wheatley/Yates football game was played at Jeppesen Stadium of Thanksgiving Day and was a major social event rivaling Juneteenth & the Christmas Party at the old City Auditorium. If you aren't familiar with the latter, see attached and pay attention to the words.

Can't get link to work. Look up Dave Alvin & "Johnny Ace Is Dead" on Youtube
.Great song and great music

I believe she was commenting on how a coach was viewed in the world of sports.
Winning and you’re on top of the world.
Lose and you might as well call U-Haul.

My wife & I met Coach Jody over 25 yrs ago in Lubbuttock. She was very approachable, witty, smart & gracious. I liked her before I met her. I've loved her since.
