Texas Balances Its Budget On the Backs of the Poor

Whether the original program was a wise thing or not, the money should ONLY be used for its intended purpose.

The same thing happened to Social Security. Congres "borrowed" it for other things and then changed its original purpose "retirement supplement".

I disapprove of both thefts, SS and the aid to utility customers.

As one stated , it is just not Texan.

The practice / strategy is nothing new ....
At least as far back as the 81st legis.session, house members from inner-city Houston districts [threatened] to propose a State Constitutional amendment to disallow the funding of social programs (targeting the lower socio-economic areas), yet never disbursing the $.

Don't have any readily available evidence, at this time, just a person who watches the proceedings when these ***-clowns are in session.

re the comment in response to mine about bootstrapping: when you were doing those menial jobs, did you notice, as I did, that a lot of your fellow workers who did not move up the ladder were a bit retarded or mentally limited or mentally ill and never got to the next step? Or that a lot of your superiors up the ladder were Peter Principled out?

And then there is the question about whether the criminals in the legislature should be diverting funds to cover up the fact that they don't have the brains, skill or guts to actually do something about the mess they helped create

The only thing they can do about the mess they created is to stop trying to play wet-nurse to the citizenry, and defund all of the unnecessary programs.

huis
Are you for real?
you asked if I noticed workers doing menial work with me were ??"a bit retarded">??Some compassionate choice of words there.

So if someone is mentally challenged we should do what?
Pay them more for the menial work?
What we should do is make sure they are treated as fairly as possible and have decent living conditions. will they be living conditions like mine? no but my living conditions are not equal to Obama's
so there you have life

Huis i also noticed many doing menial jobs who always were late or missed work and did a poor job of the work they did. I noticed the supervisor who had been promoted from menail work tell the slacker to step up or lose the job.
I noticed far more slackers and people who didn't show up after a payday than I did any " retarded"workers

One more time WE should take care of those who truly can't take care of themselves. WE should not give unlimited handouts to people who are able bodied but choose to live off the system.

Critical and chronic care customers more than most need help with bills during high usage periods. LIDA and programs like it around the country are life lines for the poor and indigent.

1. The State should not be in the business of helping people pay their light bills.

2. Since, they took the money, they should use it for what they said it was for.

3. IIRC, doesn't the state already 'request' that utility companies, not disconnect anyone, during these times.

4. Most companies have assistance plans. I know Reliant does.

All energy providers the state of Texas participate in LIDA, that is when the State is stealing the money. Who should be helping if the state doesn't? Your church?

How about the $1 everybody who buys an auto policy used to pay into a fund for the Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority? Those lying no new taxes teabaggers voted to rob the fund for other purposes and then increased the "tax" to $2.
