Texas (15-4, 4-4) has a 34-1 edge in the series with TCU (12-7, 4-4). They are currently tied in conference for fourth place. The teams will meet in Fort Worth where TCU picked their first win of the series last season. TCU, coming off a loss to Baylor on Wednesday, wants to get on the win column. Texas won a double OT thriller vs OU Thursday night and wants to put together a winning streak.

TCU is led by three of the top nine scorers in the league and four of the top 30. Veja Hamilton (# 3, 5-10 Jr. G/F) averages 16.8 ppg. Zahna Medley (# 14, 5-6 Jr. G), last season’s leading scorer and this season’s leading scorer, ranks second in conference games with an average of 14.9 ppg. Chelsea Prince (#4, 5-11 Sr. F) is third with 12.5 ppg. Natalie Ventress (# 24, 5-10 Sr. G) is tied for 30th in league scoring with Brady and BU’s Imani Wright at 8.6 ppg. Hamilton is the Horned Frogs leader in FGs made, attempted and percentage (64-114; 56.1%). Prince is second in FGs made with 38 of 79 (48.1%). Medley is second in FGs attempted (36-84; 42.9%). Medley leads in 3pters made, attempted and percentage (16-38; 42.1%). Caitlin Diaz (# 32, 6-1 Jr. F) has a slightly better 3pt% at 42.9% but has only 7 3pt attempts. Besides Medley, Prince (11-32; 34.4%), Ventress (12-30, 40.0%), Donielle Breaux (# 33, 5-10 Sr. G; 6-25, 24.0%) and Jada Butts (# 15, 5-10 Soph. G/F; 2-11, 18.2%) are the other main 3pt threats for the Frogs who rank fourth in conference stats in 3pt % at 34.4% and second in 3pters made and taken. Medley has gotten to the FT line more than twice as much as any other Horned Frog (31-38). Her 81.6% from the FT line is third on the team behind Aiche Ndao (# 45, 6-3 Jr. F) who has hit both of her FTs and Prince’s 86.7% (13-15). Prince is second on the team in FT attempts.

TCU does not have a dominant rebounder but has several players that average between 2.1 and 4.9 rpg. Prince is tops with 4.9 rpg. Hamilton (4.5 rpg), Breaux (4.4 rpg), Butts (3.8 rpg), Ventress (2.9 rpg), Diaz (2.5 rpg) and Medley (2.1 rpg) provide group support on the boards. Medley is the leader in assists with 4.5 apg which puts her in fourth place in the league. The other four starters average between 1.3 and 2.1 apg. Prince is their leading shot blocker with seven while Klara Bradshaw (# 13, 6-6 Soph. C) Diaz have six blocks apiece.

Six players have started for TCU in eight previous league games. Medley, Prince, Ventress and Breaux have eight starts while Hamilton has seven and Bradshaw has one. Butts and Diaz have played in all eight league games with Butts averaging 15.4 mpg while Diaz gets in for 9.3 mpg. Bradshaw has played in seven games with an average of 7.0 mpg. AJ Alix (# 23, 5-6 RS Fr. G) is the only other play to have seen action in more than three Big 12 games averaging 8.2 mpg in six games. Breaux is the only starter that does not average over 32 mpg as she is at 28.3 mpg. Hamilton, Prince and Ventress all average over 32 mpg. Medley tops the team with an average of 33.2 mpg. Taylor Manning-Drake (# 11, 6-4 Fr. F), Carol Willie (# 55, 6-2 Soph. C) and Ndao give TCU some height to go with Bradshaw but do not play much nor for long when they do go in.

Horns had Ariel, Brady, Kelsey, Imani and Empress in double figures in the double OT win over OU Thursday, bookended by Ariel’s 21 and Kelsey’s 10. Going into the TCU game, Brady is the leading scorer at 8.6 ppg while Ariel is at 8.3 ppg. Brady is the leader in FGs made and attempted (25-74). Imani is the leader in FG% at 55.9%, hitting 19 of 34 FGs. Nekia is the other Horn making at least 50% of her FGs at 54.1% (20-27). Brady (8-30, 26.7%) and Brooke (7-28, 25.0%) are the main 3pt shooters for the Horns. Krsytle (3-17, 17.6%) is the only other player with more than six 3pters attempted. Nekia and Celina have the best percentage from BTA at 50.0% on 3-6 attempts. Neither player has attempted a trey in at least three games (for Celina and four for Nekia). Imani is the leading Horn in getting to the FT line. Her 16 mades on 21 tries from the FT lines top the squad. Her 76.2% ranks fifth on the team. Ariel has the best FT % at 87.5% on 7 of 8 FTs. Brooke (12-15, 80.0%), Krystle (5-6, 83.3%), Empress (10-13, 76.9%) and Nekia (8-11, 72.7%) make up the six Horns that are making 70+% of their FTs. Texas has moved up to sixth in the league in FT% as a team this week.Kelsey is the leading rebounder at 6.0 rpg. Imani adds 5.0 rpg while Empress averages 4.8 rpg. Brooke (3.0 rpg), Brady (2.9 rpg) Brianna (2.6 rpg) and Nekia (2.3 rpg) provide support on the boards. Empress is ninth in the league with an average of 3.0 assists per game. Brooke adds 2.3 apg while Brady (1.6 apg), Krystle (1.3 apg), Celina (1.1 apg) and Kelsey (1.0 apg) help Texas average 13.1 apg. Brady is the only Horn that has reached double digit steals with 11. Kelsey (13) and Imani (12) lead the team in blocks.

In eight league games, seven have played in all league games. Coming back off injuries, Ariel has played in four and Brianna five. Kelsey has started all eight games. Nine players have at least one start. Of 14 available players, 13 have played in at least one game. Brady is averaging 32.9 mpg with Ariel, Kelsey, Brooke and Empress all averaging over 20 mpg. Imani, Nekia, Brianna, Krystle and Celina average in the teens.

Projected starters based on the last game:
[pre]
Texas TCU

Imani (6-7 Jr.C) Prince (5-11 Sr. F)
Kelsey (6-5 Soph. C) Medley (5-6 Jr. G)
Brady (5-11 RS Jr. G) Ventress (5-10 Jr. G)
Brooke (5-4 Fr. G) Breaux (5-10 Sr. G)
Ariel (5-11 Fr. G) Hamilton (5-10 Jr. G) [/pre]

If TCU decides to add some height to counter Texas’, either Bradshaw or Diaz is the most likely to replace one of the guards, possibly Hamilton. To counter the TCU quickness and speed, Texas may go with either four or five guards themselves. Guarding the perimeter will be critical for the Horns. TCU is second only to ISU in 3s made and attempted in the league. Their 34.4% from BTA is fourth in the Big 12. Medley leads TCU in scoring for the season while Hamilton leads the team in league scoring. 45% of Medley’s shots come from BTA. Hamilton has taken only one trey in 114 shot attempts in league games. Hard to believe that her 56..1% from the field is only fourth in the league. For all of Medley’s outside shooting, she gets to the FT line almost five times a game. She will be a tough defend for primarily Ariel, Empress and Brianna.

TCU will have to content with Kelsey and Imani inside. If they stick with their five guard rotation, they will need to crowd the inside and pressure the ballhandler to make passes inside as difficult as possible. They are only behind KSU in forcing steals. Texas will need to deal with a scrambling defense designed to force TOs and create easy shots off the TOs. Ariel will present a difficult problem for TCU with her ability to penetrate and make the short jumper.

Unlike last season when Latricia Lovings, the league’s top shot blocker, gave the Horned Frogs a defensive and scoring presence inside, TCU uses primarily five guards this season. Although they have several players over six feet, including 6-6 soph. Bradshaw, TCU has gone small instead. They depend heavily on the three, although not to the extent that ISU does. They give up the rebounding edge (they are last in the league in rebounding) to get steals where they rank second in the league. Horns do play fast but are very comfortable in the halfcourt offense. They will need to take care of the ball and be aware when they need to provide help for the ballhandler who is going to face a ton of pressure from TCU. However, get past the pressure and easy shots are likely to be available, especially when Kelsey or Imani are able to get to the paint.

Game is 12 noon on Super Bowl Sunday. TV will be on Fox Sports Southwest Plus (Fox College Sports Central-TWC 373 & 77 in the Austin area). Radio will be KVET 1300 AM / Sirius 108 / XM 199.

Let's go, Horns!!

same line up for both teams as in the previous game. Texas going big and TCU going small.

These play by play announcers are hilariously bad because if you can't tell the difference between Brady and Ariel then you need to just give up.
biggrin.gif

TCU D causing problems for Texas getting the inbounds and getting looks for our posts. Bradshaw making a difference for the Frogs inside defensively. Wonder why she doesn't play more minutes.

Bet Imani is not used to getting her shot blocked very often.

If I thought TCU could keep up this level of intensity, I would be worried. Texas needs to protect the ball. TCU is putting on a defensive clinic right now. Wow.

those passes inside need to be higher so Imani and Kelsey do not have bring it down. Bradshaw with another block.

Missed layup by Brady leads to a foul by Ariel.

Both the women's and men's basketball teams need coaches that can teach them how to run offense. And it wouldn't hurt if both teams would recruit some three-point shooters.

With the exception of the first two minutes, this is the worst basketball I have seen from this team. Turning it over like a high school squad right now.

started off shooting the ball well, going inside. now at 36% and having trouble with TCU's pressure D.

Somebody needs to hold up a sign that reads SETTLE DOWN. They try to play too quickly and it leads to turnovers. And could we please work on playing defense without fouling so we don't bail out every poor shooter with a foul.

Only look like 2 Player's came to play today.
Lang and Imani.
Everybody else, look like they are scared to shoot the ball.

TCU on top at the end of the first half, 24-23. Horns have 15 TOs in the half. That's about what they average for a game.

Horns shooting 42% but not getting as many shots due to TOs. Up by 10 in rebounding.

Frustrating game to watch. Horns need to be more aware of where the D is to cut down on the TOs.

Hamilton with 12 pts, no other Frog with more than 3.
Imani with 16, Kelsey with five and Brady with 2 to make up Horns' 23 pts at the half.

It's nerve wracking to we if we can get the ball up the court and get a shot off without turning it over. Wonder why TCU looks so much quicker, poised, and sharp-shooting than we do.

That's unusual, to have only 2 points from all your guards. Really different from an Iowa State, who tries to force the guards to shoot. Different defensive styles to say the least.

winner of this game will be tied for third in the conference standings with ISU at 5-4. The loser will be tied for fifth, either alone or tied with KU at 4-5.

Horn guards still trying to force inside when it's not there or the post is expecting to rebound a shot.. Result is a TO.

We play a rotating door all season long but suddenly against a team with almost no bench, we don't??? OMG I am pulling my hair out this season.

And they are out-blocking us?????
