Texas at Seton Hall ticket

Nothing else to say other than what's already been said. We lost this one because of 3-point shooting and rebounding. Seton Hall is far more impressive than I figured at bodying us out of position.

The guards have got to get it together if they really want to be an offensive force. In the peak Barnes years, we typically won because the guards would take the pressure off of the forwards with timely movement and they created looks. Shooting 31% as a unit happens on occasion, but on those occasions, you have to step up the D and rebounding.

Can’t hit every shot every night…..I get that, but the offensive rebounds given up and poor execution down the stretch was terrible. Wish I could sugar coat it, but I trust in Beard :hookem:

A few random observations:
  1. Win or lose, it was fun to be at a live UT sporting event. I don't get much of that up here.
  2. I was disappointed with how little burnt orange there was in the stands. Not nearly as much as the UT football game at Rutgers in 1999. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. And nowhere near as much as the UT v. Duke hoops game in 2005, but that was at a neutral site so the comparison isn't fair.
  3. The Seton Hall crowd was livelier than I expected. Unfortunately for them, they play in a (formerly) NBA arena but they only sell the lower deck. Thus, much of the noise just disappears into the rafters.
  4. There were "Horns Down" all over the place. Clearly, that memo has gotten around. It's flattering to draw that much emotion out of an opponent, I suppose.
  5. The guy behind me kept saying things like "Look guys, Texas has 5 points -- the same as the number of wins they had in football this year" and "Look guys, Texas has 7 personal fouls -- the same as the place they ended in the Big 12 football standings." But my favorite was "Look guys (yes, he always started with "Look guys"), UT has made 0 three pointers -- that's how many bowl games they are playing in this year." What a douche.
  6. I kept thinking we were getting dominated on the boards, then looking at the stats and seeing that it was pretty even.
  7. As others have pointed out, we got tons of good looks from 3 and most of them were decent attempts. We just couldn't get them to fall. That'll even out over the season.
  8. Mitchell looks great. If he can put some weight on, he'll have a nice career.
  9. Seton Hall's offense is TERRIBLE, with absolutely no motion. But their defense is solid. Nothing flashy -- they just really make you work for shots.
