Both teams are coming off disappointing losses in their first Big 12 games. For Texas, they come into this game at 10-3, 0-1 while OSU is 8-2, 0-1. Texas lost to Kansas 67-72 while OSU fell to Tech 53-58. The loss to KU broke a five game winning streak for Texas. OSU has lost two in a row after starting the season with eight straight wins. Texas leads the OSU series 24-10. The teams have split their two games each season since the 2007-08 season with each winning at home the last two years.
The Cowgirls have 13 players on the roster. Ten got into the game against Tech with eight logging at least 15 minutes and two only 3 minutes each. Liz Donohoe (#4, 6-0 Fr. F) and Tiffany Bias (#3, 5-6 Soph. G) each put in 37 minutes against Tech. Kendra Suttles (#31, 6-1 Soph. C; 25 minutes) and Taylor Schippers (#1, 5-8 Fr. G; 26 minutes) joined Donohoe, Bias and Vicky McIntyre (#34, 6-6 Soph. C) as starters in their first league game. That was the tenth start for Donohoe and Bias. It was the 9th start in ten games for Suttles while Schippers started her 7th game in 10 and McIntyre her 3rd in 10. Jordan Schultz (#12, 5-10 Fr. G), Toni Young (#15, 6-2 Fr. F) and Lindsey Keller (#25, 6-2 Jr. C) all played between 15 and 19 minutes against Tech. Jenni Bryan (#11, 5-9 Soph. G/F) and Carissa Crutchfield (#24, 5-6 Soph. G) each logged 3 minutes against the Lady Raiders.
Seven Cowgirls scored in their first Big 12 game, led by Suttles (15 ppg) and Bias (10 ppg). Schippers (8 ppg), Donohoe (7 ppg) and Young (7 ppg) were other top scorers for OSU. Suttles (5-10 from the field and 3-8 from BTA) was the top shooter for OSU. Bias (4-17 FGs and 1-6 from BTA) was the one taking the most shots. Donohoe (3-11 and 0-4) is the other Cowgirl that took double digit shots against Tech. Young hit on 3-7 from the field while McIntyre was 1-6. Only McIntyre got to the FT line more than two times, hitting 2-4. Suttles was 2-2 from there while Bias was 1-1.
Donohoe led OSU with 11 boards while McIntyre added 8 and Young 7. Bias had 5 assists with four others had 1 assist each. Suttles, Bryan and Young each had one block. Bias had five steals while Donohoe and Schippers added one each.
In Big 12 play, the Horns are led in scoring by Ashleigh (19 ppg) and Chassidy (12 ppg). Nine of the ten active players played and all scored at least one point with Ashley (9 ppg), Cokie (8 ppg) and Yvonne (8 ppg) topping the rest. The starting five, Chassidy (5-13), Ashleigh (8-20), Yvonne (3-10), Ashley (4-9) and Cokie (4-9), accounted 24 of 61 of the 28 of 69 FGs made/attempted by Texas. From BTA, Yvonne, Chassidy and Ashleigh each made one trey. Seven of the nine went to the FT line. They all attempted two FTs with Ashleigh and Anne Marie hitting both of theirs while the other five were no better than 1-2.
Ashley and Chassidy tied for the lead with nine rebounds each. Chelsea added 7 rebs while Cokie had 6.Yvonne and Ashleigh each had 3 assists while Ashley, Chassidy and Chelsea each added two assists. Ashley led with 5 blocks while Anne Marie added 2 and Cokie, Chassidy and Chelsea each had one block. Ashley and Chassidy each had three steals with Ashleigh adding 2 and Cokie, Chelsea and Anne Marie each had one. Ashley and Ashleigh fouled out of the KU game.
Ashleigh, Chassidy, Yvonne, Cokie and Ashley started the game. Ashleigh (37 minutes) and Chassidy (33 minutes) topped the team in minutes played. Ashley, Yvonne, Cokie and Chelsea got over 20 minutes while Anne Marie played 15 minutes and Nneka 10.
Projected starters based on the last game. OSU has had nine different players start so far this season so their lineup could change. Texas has been fairly consistent with their starting lineup only changing due to injury.
Texas OSU
Ashley (6-4) McIntyre (6-6)
Cokie (6-4) Suttles (6-1)
Ashleigh (5-8) Schippers (5-8)
Yvonne (5-7) Bias (5-6)
Chassidy (5-10) Donohoe (6-0) McIntyre just about hit her averages for the season at Tech. I would expect to see Cokie on McIntyre and Ashley on Suttles. Suttles will be the more aggressive offensive player, capable of hitting from outside while McIntyre is more of a true post player. Look for Nneka and Kayla to help out on Suttles and Keller while Anne Marie and Cokie rotate on McIntyre and Young. Donohoe, Bias and Schippers will be the main players to stop from BTA. Neither team played well offensively but Chassidy, Ashleigh and Yvonne remain the top offensive threats for Texas from the perimeter. Ashley will provide an anchor inside for the Texas defense while OSU has no one with her ability to block shots. Will we see the Horns be able to drive inside and get to the FT line?

Both teams got a lot of shots off in their first Big 12 game. They simply did not connect on many of them. OSU really relied on their 3pt shot against Tech while Texas focused more on shots inside the arc. This will be a tough battle inside rebounding. Whomever gets to the FT line will have an advantage to winning. A major reason for OSU and Texas losing was that their opponents made more FTs than either OSU or Texas attempted. Texas should be able to win the battle of getting to the FT line. OSU depends a lot on the 3, taking a trey every three shots while Texas attempts one every four shots. OSU is usually a bit more deliberate than they were against Tech while Texas plays a bit faster.
