OSU and Texas come into this game practically even in season records and dead even in conference games. OSU is 14-5 and Texas is at 15-5. Both are at 3-3 in Big 12 play and tied for sixth. OSU is looking for their third straight win while Texas is coming off a big 58-55 road win over Baylor. OSU won their last two games on the road over Missouri (68-60) and Texas Tech (65-60). OSU is 1 and 1 at home in Big 12 games. The Horns are 1-2 in Big 12 road games. The two have lost home games to A&M, the Cowgirls dropping a 60-50 decision while the Longhorns lost 68-54. This is the last of four games against ranked teams for the Horns. So far they are 1-2.

In Big 12 play, Andrea Riley (#10, 5-5 Jr. G) leads the Cowgirls in scoring (27.8 ppg), assists (5.2 apg), steals (1.8 spg), FT/FTA (39-51), 3pts made/attempted (14-39), FG/FGA (57-130) and minutes (38.3 mpg). G) are second with 8.5 ppg while Taylor Hardeman (# 13, 5-10 Sr. G) is third at 7.8 ppg. Hardeman is second on the team in 3pters with 13-38 (34.2%) to Riley. Hardeman is also second on the team with 1.7 steals per game. Smith is the top rebounder on the team with a 7.0 rpg average while Shyvon Spears (# 40, 6-1 Sr. F) chips in with 6 rpg. Three others, including Riley, average at least 4 rpg. Tegan Cunningham (# 1, 6-1 Jr. F) joins Riley, Smith, Hardeman, and Spears as starters.

For the Horns, Kat leads in Big 12 games with a 14.7 ppg average. No other Horn is averaging double figures in conference play. Brit is at 9.7 ppg while Ashleigh is at 8.8 ppg. In the Big 12, there is not much difference between the two in most categories. OSU takes more 3s (122 to 81), but the Horns make a better percentage (34.6 to 30.3). The Horns get to the FT line more (118 to 101) but OSU is better when they get there (72.3% to 63.6%). The Horns are better at getting steals (59 to 40) and at blocking shots (29 to 16). The Horns will protect the inside with Lindsey and Gayle alternating and at times playing together. The problem for the Horns is that both tend to be foul prone. If they can stay out of foul trouble, OSU will have trouble getting inside. The Horns will also have post players Earnie, Kristen, and Aubry to rotate inside. The Cowgirls tight rotation of seven players with double digit minutes in Big 12 play leaves them with only Megan Byford (# 33, 6-2 Jr. C) as the tallest player to sub in.

Last season, the Horns held Riley in check in splitting the games, winning in Austin and losing at Stillwater. OSU also won the third in the Big 12 tourney. IIRC, Brit was assigned to Riley most of each game. This season, Ashleigh, Carla and Yvonne will also help out. It will be interesting to see how Ashleigh matches up with Riley. In two games last season, the Horns let OSU burn them from outside, Hardeman in one game and Cordero in another. Inside, the Cowgirls had no problem scoring. The Horns will need to guard that 3pt line as Hardeman is still playing for the Cowgirls and Riley will light it up from NBA range. Three of the top nine Big 12 players in 3pt FG% will be on the floor Thursday, Kat at 42.4% (#4), Hardeman at 34.2% (7), and Riley at 31.8% (9). Riley, Hardeman, and Hernandez rank 3, 9, and 14 in number of 3s made per game. Kat is tied with Riley at 3rd. The Horns inside defense will have to deny inside scoring or at least contest fiercely. The Horns lost the rebounding battle in both games that OSU won last season. While OSU is averaging more rebounds that the Horns in Big 12 play (38.2 to 37.3) this season, they are giving up quite a few more to opponents than the Horns (45.7 to 37.5). The Horns will enjoy a distinct height advantage inside with Lindsey and Gayle. Byford is the only one of three Cowgirls at 6-2 that plays double digit minutes for OSU.

The game will be on Fox Sports (TW cable 54) and ESPN360.com per the texassports.com preview.

OSU still does not have their game preview up at this time.

excellent preview, as always. i knew riley was pretty much their team this year, but wow, 44.6% of their offense.

that's crazy. i'm hoping that our depth at the guard position will help keep Riley in check again this year. she goes non-stop for 40 minutes. gotta keep a fresh body on her. as i said in another post, i'm really looking forward to the match-up of Riley and Font.

I didn't realize Riley scored almost half of their points either. Game plan - this is an easy one - shut down Riley and we win. I say a new fresh body on her every 4 minutes. Deny Hardeman and Cordero on the perimeter and I say we should win.

O, start the freshman Font and Gayle. I think we should start with Font on Riley to open up the game. Frustrate and irritate Riley at the beginning of the game and Font or Raven are the player to do it.

Shutting down Riley is like shutting down OU's Paris....ain't gonna happen.....but, I do agree, we put the fastest guards on her, and rotate them continuously.....wear "Sluggo" out, and don't put up with any of her dirty antics....if she smacks you again, Earnie, I hope you deck her....well, actually, I guess I hope you don't, but if it does happen, I hope it is on tape!!

OSU's preview is up. From that preview: "However, four of OSU’s victories have come in the last five meetings. "

Bet that has been discussed in team meetings.

Should've just put that link on this thread...sorry, i'm tired!!

This will be a great match-up for Ashleigh (if she gets the call to do it). A chance for her to show her strength on D. Just keep her missing, block out, and grab the Rebounds!!

Horns up 15-6 at the first media timeout. Brit has a couple of 3s and Kat has one. Brit looks to have found her shot.

Not sure if the channels are consistent nationwide or not, but I'mn watching the OSU FSN feed on channel 445 (north of Houston). The channel guide also showed that the game is supposed to be available on the ESPN Full Court package channels, but I am not sure which feed THAT channel would have since I don't have the FC package.

The "Cowboys Sports Network" has actually been pretty kind to us so far...very effusive in their praise of the athleticism of the Texas bunch and has also covered the way the team tells all of the Ashley's apart...

And, I was even surprised at the ease with which they accepted that Riley's charge was a good call...

In the meantime...let's keep up this start...
