Texas at Missouri

I still buy my season tickets and go to the games. The number of people who attend the games looks down (to me) compared to a few years ago. I personally know of several people who quit buying season tickets and no longer go. Not because of the coach but because of the lack of success (7 to be exact). Please spare me the "fair weather fan" response. This is big time college athletics. You've got to win to get butts in the seats. That's simply the reality of it. I like Coach G personally (not that I know her but you know what I mean) and I'm as hopeful as anyone she'll have success. But I've also been watching Texas women's basketball since the pinnacle of our success 25 years ago. It's time to turn the corner or it's time to find someone who can get us there. In the meantime -- brace yourself for what could happen Wednesday.

Not sure I buy the argument that you have to wait until all the players on the team are your own recruits before you make a change. The best coaches step in and take somebody else's talent and wins with that; sorta what Rick Barnes did years ago when he arrived on the 40. As for what is coming in a couple of nights, well, we saw that coming when we weren't on Griner's short list...

let's see-Reed and Moore the past two seasons. Peoples,Nneka and Brewer next season, Little in 2012 and Terry in 2013. The quality recruits are coming in. I'm pretty optimistic about the future. Heck, I'm pretty optimistic about this season, allowing for the fact that I try very hard to be realistic about how the Horns match up with others in the Big 12.

This season may not show the steady upward climb the last three seasons have shown in Big 12 play. But we won't know that for a while yet. That game last Saturday in Missouri is a head scratcher. With a 12 pt lead, Horns should not have lost. But they did. That's one that got away. They shown far more poise against Tenn and Stanford. That's what's so confusing to me about that Missouri loss. They didn't seem to know how to respond at the end of regulation and OT to the Missouri runs. Wish we could have seen the game as it would have given us a better idea of what happened.

I'm looking forward to the Baylor game to see how the team responses to that loss in Missouri. I want to see them come back strong and not tentative because of what happened Saturday. Can't wait for Wednesday.
