Re above post: Is Imani not fully healthy? I didn't know. I assumed she was back and good to go. We need an active rotation between her, Neka, and Kelsey.
Re Imani - She has said she is well. When I've seen her the last few weeks, she did not appear to me to be moving naturally or jumping as she has in the past. Imani has said that her timing is off. Even so, I think she has helped us when she has been in the game. I'm hoping that hitting 2 of 3 today is a good sign of things to come.
Surprised we did not get to the free throw line more; that's a lack of aggressiveness. Thought our guards didn't drive and penetrate enough and get themselves fouled; we typically a get a few charging calls on our guards as they often go about one step too deep, but I think only Brooke got a charging foul today.
All in all, ISU took us out of our game and forced us to settle for jump shots and 3-point shots; we hit them in the first half, but unfortunately, not in the second half.
Learning / teaching experience. If we were going to have a loss, it's better that it happened now. Watching video from this game will help us win the next.
our posts got shots in the second half but missed a lot of them, going 4-21 between Nneka and Kelsey. And those were shots that they normally make. Plus not getting to the FT line? Nneka usually gets there more than four times. Just one of those games. They need to have a short memory about this and get ready for OU at Norman on Wednesday.
I was never under the illusion we'd finish the season undefeated and isu is really really good at home. That being said, we need to get healthy. Lang is just now getting back to a good place with her timing and conditioning since suffering that knee injury right before the holidays. Her shot will come back sooner rather than later. But a game like this is where we miss bre and Ariel the most. Bre hitting that mid range jumper today would've been a game changer. And having Ariel being able to create her own shot woiuldve been key at the end.
Going to OU will be no easier. Have to figure out a way to stay afloat until we get everyone back.
I also never thought we would go undefeated in conference play; I just dislike that we lost that 18 point lead so quickly. Usually, timeouts and player substitutions can stymie a huge run by the opponent, but the team/coaches couldn't find the right combination on defense, or offense for that matter.
Just like against WVU the other night, the team gets complacent with a big lead, and doesn't quite yet have that killer instinct to keep your foot on the opponent's throat.
With an outstanding start to this season, I thought we had a good chance of going undefeated in conference play. Disappointing to lose to a "good" opponent that is unranked by the way on the road. This loss puts pressure for Texas to beat OU @ Norman so going 1-2 does not bode well for this team.
Not worried abut this loss at all. I don't think anyone expected us to go undefeated, and we're still a top 5 team, in particular given that incredible run of upsets during pre-conference play. We could lose 2 or 3 and still be a solid top 5 entering post-season play. I agree we need to get healthy, but better to limit Imani's minutes now, and keep Ariel and Brianna out until they're 100%; we're going to need them much more later in the season. Big12 play is a long haul and we certainly can't risk anyone coming back too soon, or getting reinjured.
Glad we got the first lost over with. Now we can regroup and play ball. I'm liking the Horns this year. SMH on the BU blowout against ISU. I didn't expect that at all. But it is what it is. Kim has the Bears ballin'. Can't wait until our game with them next week. Tempted to make the drive to Waco Monday evening.
