These ISU girls must be pretty fragile because the slightest touch gets the whistle for them. Not so much on the other end...Big 12 officials...

No box score available, but the foul calls seem lopsided in ISU's favor

19 fouls for Texas. 15 for Iowa St.
You totally jinxed them! And, I am grateful you did.Gaston was a big factor on offense and defense in the last game. She is unavailable. With both Gaston and Warren out, I am not seeing how the Horns will match up, particularly on the defensive end. For Iowa State, Kristen Scott and Ashley Joens will start and play most of the game. My guess is that Celeste and Karisma will have to guard Joens, which will likely lead to foul trouble. Joens is second behind Charlie Collier in FTA and makes .878% of them.
Ebo is back but has looked out of condition. She has looked slower than usual getting up and down the floor and appears to be playing limited minutes. At her best, I can't see her being as good a combo with Collier against Iowa State's 4 guard line-up with Ashley Joens at the four.
Offensively, Texas shot better than usual from three and Iowa State shot poorly. That combination is unlikely to happen again. I do hope Collier will work hard inside where she has her best advantage over Iowa State.
Edit: I was pessimistic before the last game so you all have good reason to pooh pooh my pessimistic outlook,
She hadn't taken a break all half. And, he might have wanted to give her a breather and try to prevent her from picking up her second foul.Great energy! I wish Vic wouldn’t have pulled Charlie. She was in a zone and I feel we we on the edge of a blowout.
Different than in some other road games, Charli and the staff managed her foul situation well this game. Her foul in the first quarter was near the 3-point line as she tried to get through an ISU screen; she stayed composed, and didn't pick up another foul the rest of the half (I think). Her second foul also came far away from the basket; I don't like our post players doing that. I lost track of her subsequent fouls, but she seemed to pick up her last two in the final minutes when the game was pretty much in hand.Fantastic game. And Charli did exactly what we needed her to... but fouling out up 12 with under a minute left... Charli! You need to break that foul habit. It didn’t seem to matter tonight but IT MATTERS. Ok. Off my silly soap. 22/19 is fine by me anytime and anywhere.
One other comment - if that announcer said one more time that we didn’t want to get in a 3 point competition with Iowa State I was going to scream. I know it’s their bread and butter but we beat them at the three last time. We had 9 to their 4. Tonight we had 6 to their 8 but we both shot 33%
My question is how bad of a shape was she in when the season started and she practiced with the team waiting to get cleared to play. She huff and puffs like a freshman who hadn't done any conditioning before arriving in Austin! This was a wonderful game for the gals! Their energy was good from the get go. I liked all the movement. Only criticism is that Ebo needs to get in shape so she can spell Charli.
I think that really made all the difference in the world. Allowing Collier to move around opened up much of the offense. Setting her screens for her to pop out and Allowing her to attack off the dribble is what works with a player like Collier. Very exciting to watchThis was great. Didn't recognize us from Lubbock. Credit to Vic for using the weave, which is a thing of beauty, and for moving Charli around, not just parking her in the low post. Joanne and Celeste, and needless to say Charli, were fantastic. Everyone played well. I hope Ebo can get more up to speed.
Racer,
- Where was this type of weaving, dribble-drive offense all this season? Was it because ISU stubbornly clung to their man defense?
- Finally, fewer forced passes to Charli in the paint - resulting in fewer turnovers
- Surprised to see Joanne the second leading scorer, but then if you make three 3's including the rarely seen 4-pointer, I guess that makes sense
- Shay seems a bit sloppy handling the ball sometimes
- Karisma playing the full 40:00? Whew. I guess with Audrey's situation, there is no chance to sub out when Vic starts getting displeased with her play 4 minutes into the start of each game
- I wonder what "life lesson" Vic was imparting to Charli when she fouled out near the end of the game?
- But still Charli was playing as smooth as her #1 pick-in-the-next-draft projections
- Love the Celeste hustle!
This was a great game. Will it be rebroadcast on LHN?
I haven’t seen it listed so evidently not. I taped it and watched it again. Wow. It was a thing of beauty to see the way they moved the ball. And that defense! Wow. Loved it.
Edit: It’s not easy to find in the listings but it’s available OnDemand in the ESPN+ app
