Texas at #24 TCU

I am not sure 8-10 gets Texas in with the non-conference schedule the Horns played. 9-9 with a win in the conference tournament probably does but really 10-8 is needed and that is 6-3 over these last 9 which is a tough ask.
If Texas had beaten WV and UCF, they would be 6-3 in conference and possibly tied at 1st place after this weekend. That’s how tough the conference is. 8-10 is guaranteed in.

8-10 is guaranteed in.

I really hope you are right, because 4-5 over the next 9 is very feasible. This six game stretch against all ranked teams has been a slog and they are already at the minimum they needed which was 3 wins, get a fourth and then dont crap the bed against UCF type teams the rest of the year and the tournament is a realistic possibility, something I had all but given hope of after the two game nightmare of WVU/UCF.

They need to win all remaining home games and then get 2 of the 4 road games against bailor, sand aggy, rock chalk and 5th ward ( I don't see them beating KU at the phog but stranger things have happened) That is indeed a very steep climb to get out of the hole they dug with losing at home to ucf and sand aggy and losing to wvu. All depends on whether Mr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde shows up for the games. Many opportunities squandered.

The slow start was really the only thing that kept the final result from being far, far better. We did a great job responding whenever TCU started to chip into us. They thought that small ball would be effective enough against us, but that offensive rebounding edge was way too much to overcome. Nelson really pooped the bed on his shooting, which is something we'd probably be complaining about if he signed with us in the offseason.

We were -10 on the "non-steal" turnovers, meaning that we threw 10 away that weren't even taken by the Frogs in play. Gotta work on that, especially underneath.

I'm really hating the lack of consistency, but it is what it is. All of college basketball seems to be trending in this "anyone can win any night" differential.

The Horns are going to put it all together the rest of conference play, the Big 12 tournament, and get their ticket punched to the Big Dance
Watch out when that happens. It’s gonna be a Good Good Time!!
A guy can dream can’t he.

I think Horns need to win 5 of the remaining 9 regular season games to feel good about going into the B12 tourney. Then win at least one game there to feel good about getting an invitation to the NCAA tourney.

Any 20-win XII team isn't going to be left out. The conference gets way too much respect for that to happen. 5 of 9 is doable, and if so, I don't think we even need to worry about the conference tournament. I think the only way we have to worry about it is if we tank from here on out and then somehow go on a run in the tournament.

We are currently in the field with a cushion, albeit a small one. Our remaining schedule is brutal — 6 games left against ranked teams, including 2 in the top 10. While going 5-4 in that stretch would be nice, it is far from necessary. We’d be a bubble team at 4-5 with no tourney wins, but 1 tourney win would clinch an NCAA bid If we go 3-6 down the stretch, we will need a couple of tourney wins.

5 ranked teams in a row.

3-2 over that span shows we can play with anybody (not that we are dominant, but competitive) and that we are a tournament quality team. As long as we don't fall off a cliff the rest of the way, we should be assured of an invitation.

Isu is next so that will be six ranked teams in a row. A conference with the depth of quality of the Big 12 gives ample opportunity to get quality wins for getting into the tournament (the downside is the losses can mount quickly if you don't show up every game). The team just has to do it.

Yep. Twenty wins should get Horns in the Big Dance. If they can win two in the B12 tournament I think it helps us to get Seeded 4 or 5–would be ok.
If we win 0 games in the B 12 tournament I think Horns will be a 6 or worse. Not so good.

This is a weird team this year. I guess it all comes down to getting hot at the right time. But doesn’t it always…

I'm hopeful they can figure it all out by tourney time. Love the team thats hot, but can't understand the other extreme version.

I can't watch a game played on that TCU court.
Personally, I find it more difficult to watch football on Boise St's field than basketball on tcu's court, but yes, that court is a literal eye-sore. I do believe it constitutes a home court advantage for the frogs. CDC knew what he was doing then & there when he got that arena built just as I think he does here & now.
