Texas-Army Game Thread

Happy Hour Horn watching, with an ear plug. I have about 3-4 people watching over my shoulder trying to get the game on TV!!!

Let's go Horns!!!!!

Cole starts the fourth with another K. One down. Really looks sharp--hitting all his spots.

Spoke too soon. Cole walks Moore after jumping ahead in the count, 0-2. One on, one out.

EXTREMELY high chopper down the first-base line. Clark fields and tags the batter on the way by. Moore advances to second. One on, two out.

Hard liner to right but Keyes is there to make the catch. Inning over.

That was the first ball hit out of the infield. But for those two walks to Moore, Green looks sharp. His breaking balls are freezing the Army batters.

Texas takes a one-run lead to the bottom of the fourth ...

Clark leads off the bottom of the fourth with a first-pitch liner to center that drops in front of the fielder. One on, Keyes up.

Keyes pops up a bunt that is nearly caught but lands foul.

Called strike. Keyes probably swinging away.

Keyes works the count full and draws a walk! Two on, no out. Shep up.

Shep with a nice bunt back to the mound. Clark and Keyes advance; Shep out at first. One out, Rowe up.

Rowe shows bunt for the safety squeeze but fouls. Rowe shows bunts again and drops a beaut down the first-base line. Clark takes off and scores!!! Rowe out at first and Texas is up, 2-0.

Find the calendar at the bottom left. Just after the time, there's a video camera icon. Click on it and that should take you to the game.

Koenigsfeld breaks up Green's no-no with a leadoff single to left.

Check-swing strikeout for out No.1.

Cole walks Fleming on five pitches. Runners at first and second, one out.

Johnson comes out for a conference on the mound.

6-4-3 double play ends the inning!!!! Green has been masterful so far. Just gotta cut down on those walks.

To the bottom of the fifth with Texas leading, 2-0 ...

Cole Green to lead off the inning. This should be interesting.

Green with a well-hit single to left!!!! AMAZING!!!

Torres up. He squares to bunt and takes a called strike. Bunts foul the next pitch. Probably swinging away now.

Torres checks his swing but is rightfully called out. Grrr. One on, one out, Rupp up.

Rupp flies to right for out No.2. Loy next.

Loy lines one to right that is chased down for out No.3. Brickbats to Torres and Rupp for failing to advance Cole, who lead off the inning with a single despite having to bat for the first time since high school.

To the top of the sixth. Texas leads, 2-0 ...

Cole's pitch count starting the sixth: 54.

Deep fly to left and Tant makes an over-the-shoulder catch and nearly falls down. Phew! One down.

Ernesto caught looking on strike No.3 for out No.2.

Moore takes the first pitch and drills it to left to reach base with a single. He's walked twice and now singled. Two out.

Dueces wild in the sixth--2-2 count with 2 outs and Texas up, 2-0.

Henshaw with three consecutive foul-offs, then finally lifts a deep fly to left that Shep settles under and squeezes for the third out of the inning.

Texas takes a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the sixth ...

We need to get some bats going. Cole deserves more than a 2-0 lead. C'mon, 'Horns!

On cue, Clark leads off the bottom of the sixth with a gapper to right-center that goes for extra bases! Man on second, no out, Keyes up.

Keyes with a mighty swing and miss on the first pitch; strike one.

Keyes with a comebacker past the mound up the middle to score Clark!!! One on, no out, Texas leading, 3-0. Shepherd up.

Black Knights convene on the mound. Fouch staying in. Shep shows bunt.

Shep with a bunt down the first-base line but the first baseman scoops it up and guns down Keyes at second. One out, man on first.

Rowe with a hard-hit grounder to third as Shep moves on the hit-and-run. Third baseman bobbles the ball but makes the throw in time (VERY close). Runner on second with two outs, Tucker up.

Tucker grounds out to end the inning. Texas strands one but scores a run to increase its lead to 3-0.

To the top of the seventh ...

McKague leads off the top of the seventh with a single up the gut. One on, no out.

Base hit down the third-base line that should've gone for extra bases but Shepherd reads the ball nicely and holds the runner on first. Runners at the corners, no outs.

Conference. Cole's thrown 79 pitches through six-plus innings.

Shallow fly to left scores McKague. Runner at first doesn't advance. Army plates its first run to trim Texas' lead to 3-1.

Green notches his sixth strikeout for the second out of the inning.

Cole induces another grounder, this one goes to second and the throw to first ends the inning with minimal damage.

That probably closes the book on Green--through seven innings, he's allowed one run (earned), four hits and three walks while recording six strikeouts. He also had a single and a sacrifice bunt.

He's due up to bat, which means we'll probably see a pinch hitter.

Kyle Lusson will start the bottom of the seventh pinch hitting in place of Cole Green.

Kyle with a deep fly to right that is easily caught for out No.1. Torres up.

Torres lines the first pitch to left, but the ball is hit right to the fielder for the second out of the inning. Rupp up.

Other scores: Baylor has a 3-0 lead over Minnesota in the bottom of the seventh. Last I heard, OU and Wichita State were knotted at 1 apiece.

Wood will relieve Cole, per Moreland.

Full count to Rupp, who then draws a two-out walk. Loy up.

Loy lifts a routine fly to center to end the inning and strand Rupp. Not a good day for Brandon at the plate.

To the top of the eighth. Army is down to its final six outs and Wood is in to close with Texas leading, 3-1.

Eighth-inning lineup changes for Texas:

Wood relieves Green. Maitland in for Shepherd (LF), which means Wood will bat, if necessary, in the 2-hole.

C'mon, Woody--bring us home!!!

Top of the Army order is up. Price to lead off.

Price rolls a 1-2 pitch to short. Loy makes the throw for out No.1.

Wood's first pitch plunks Ernesto on the arm. One on, one out.

Moore chases a pitch away for strike three and out No.2. First out of the game for Moore.

Routine grounder to short that would've been an easy DP had there been the runners or the outs. Instead, it's a fielder's choice and the runner is out at second. Army down to its final three outs with Texas holding on to a 3-1 advantage.

To the bottom of the eighth ...

Army brings in Tyler Anderegg to relieve Fouch after seven innings. Not a bad outing for a guy who struggled with his control early.

Clark up. Let's get some insurance, 'Horns. It's a bad deal in Vegas but great at the Disch!

Clark pops up to center for the first out. Keyes up.

Keyes with a mighty swing on a pitch moving down and away from the zone, then takes ball two to even the count at 2-2.

Keyes nearly hit with ball three--says he was hit on the wrist--but the umpire says no.

Called strike three on an inside pitch sits Keyes down. Two outs. Moreland said the pitch was "off the plate, inside." Maitland up.

Elsewhere, Baylor now owns a 5-0 lead over Minnesota and the Sooners trailing Wichita State, 4-2, in the fifth.

Maitland runs the count full, fouls off a payoff pitch and then stares at another called strike inside.

To the top of the ninth ...

Wood will face the 5, 6 and 7 hitters in the top of the ninth.

McKague (1-for-3 on the day) to lead off the inning. Wood starts him off with a strike. Next pitch is grounded gently to short. Loy makes the throw and it's one down.

Back-to-back swings and misses for Koenigsfeld puts him in an 0-2 hole. Wood misses outside. Crowd wanted that for strike three. Next pitch is fouled off. Bouncer over the plate evens the count at 2-2. Another pitch fouled off.

Koenigsfeld fouls one back for the third time ... and then a fourth! Pitch off the plate and outside to run the count full. Koenigsfeld swings and misses at the payoff pitch for out No.2!!!

Wood starts Polchinski off with a called strike outside. Next pitch is a ball. Misses high and the count is 2-1. Strike two called outside! Army is down to its last strike. Wood misses the corner outside. Another payoff pitch fools 'em as Polchinski goes down swinging!!!!

Army is up and down in the top of the ninth and Texas wins, 3-1!!!!!

Wood earns his 15th save of the season. Hopefully, that appearance will restore some of his confidence. He did an excellent job of getting ahead of Army's hitters and then hitting his spots to get some strikeouts.

Lost audio on the postgame. Anybody catching Garrido's comments? I'm interested to hear an update on Belt. Really hope we can get him back for tomorrow. We need his bat, if he's healthy.
