Texas and NCAA Tourney

I'm feeling optimistic tonight. Let's take down WVA 1st and then upset the #1 seed Stanford! Heck let's go out GUNS A'BLAZIN!!!

I'm just talking off the cuff! But there's gotta be a Cinderella and why not us!! I figure no time like the present to go on a 3 game winning streak!

I really don't know why it takes Texassports 3 1/2 hours to post a release about the invite. Most schools had something up pretty quickly. Even if they post something brief and add to it later...oh well.

Thanks for the Statesman link, it was nice to hear a few player quotes. I know it's probably coming sooner or later, but I wish Texassports had posted an article on player and coaches reactions, and video of the selection process/anncouncement. It happened at 6pm last night and we were one of the first teams to get placed. I don't know why we have to wait until the next day to get more than a paragraph with a link to the official tournament site.

Help me out here.

Why does #1 OA Baylor open in Ohio and never play near home, while #1 UConn and #1 ND open at home (w/ UConn having their usual easy route thru the 16 playing down the road in RI), not to mention #14 UA-LR, #7 Depaul, #4 Purdue, #6 OU, #7 Vandy, #10 ISU, #5 LSU, #2 MD, and lastly #3 A&M all opening at home?

No reward for the Bear's undefeated season? I guess that's why Mulkey just kinda sat there looking rather stunned while her players went nuts after their bracket was annoounced.

In Men's Baseball, you have to apply to host a Regional, maybe something along the same lines are true in Women's basketball. Maybe Baylor's application was rejected or they didn't apply.

Not 100% sure, but it happened to Arizona State Baseball a few years back, they half assed an application and they didn't get to host a regional. For Sun Devil baseball that is almost an abnormality.

As far as Baylor, and Stanford go, the selection chair had a good chat last night where he explained the scenario. They put Baylor and Stanford at neutral sites for games one and two because there wasn't any other choice. These were the best options for them while also protecting other principles (ie/ not facing conference foes before the elite 8 etc). There wasn't any other choice because sites are determined in advance, but he did say a lot of care was put into where both squads were placed (in other words, neither would have been happy with the other options - that's what I took him to mean anyway).

Thanks to you both for the info. It seems like UConn always has a home advantage at some point in every tourney in which they play, just as Kentucky, UNC, and Duke - especially Duke - always have on the men's side. They should all occasionally have to travel and play before some indifferent or hostile crowds.
