Man, that was quick!! Thank God it didn't come down to the final region; glad to have that over with! We got the dreaded 8/9 seed matchup, but hey, we're in!! Congrats to the team!
A bit higher than I expected ... but I also still think #9 is better than #10 or #11 ... the 2/3 seeds are still pretty hard to beat and this way we're playing equals rather than a better team than us in the first round.
I haven't looked that closely but from what I can tell, the two in Creme's bracket that didn't make it were VA and Temple, with Michigan and Kansas taking their place. There may be other differences but those were the two that jumped out at me. Very happy KS made it and the Big 12 got 7 in the field.
Michigan and Kansas surprised me. But it seems like there are fewer surprises that usual.......I'm a little surprised the committee seemed to agree with me about Texas. It seems like we usually get a seed lower than I think is justified.......now, beat the hell out of WVU.
Michigan surprised me, but then again so did Michigan State. I'm not surprised by KS though - I had a feeling the Big 12 would either get 5 or 7 teams in - if they took Texas I felt like they were going to take the Jayhawks also. Glad it worked out that way.
BBV, I missed when they were discussing that part, can you tell me who the other last four in, and out were? I'm guessing the Horns, KS, MSU and Michigan were the last four in.
4 of 6 contributors list Texas as the team in the tourney worse than their seed. I'd post that on the bulletin board and challenge this team to take some pride in themselves and prove 'em wrong.
Interesting that Texas was a last four in with a nine seed while ISU was a 10......so is that a bracket issue getting teams in the right place geographically, or does that mean they see a 10 or 11 as favorable by comparison?
Regardless it does say the committee saw Texas closer to what I expected than what I thought it should be.
I do agree with the chairman......there is very difference in resume between a large group of teams.
I am just following the Creme Chat online and he said there quite a number of teams that got bumped up or down a seed due to procedural reasons. He said this happened to Texas due to bracket principle having Big 12 teams not facing one another before the Elite 8. This happens for other leagues too. I don't think they bump anyone one way of the other more than a single seed line, so that would have made the Horns a 10 seed otherwise.
I think that also, KU being one of the last in, rather than KSU.
WVA is similar in style to A&M. Should not be anything new for the Horns. Some on other forums are saying Horns should stock up on pain killer. Heck, after playing A&M, we don't need it.
WVA will try to make the game ugly and low scoring, iirc, from watching a couple of their games. If Horns are on, WVA will have trouble doing that. And they have not faced shotblockers like the Horns can bring.
