(CNN)At least 73 people were killed Thursday night when a large truck plowed through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France, the Nice prosecutor's office said, according to French media.

The driver pointed his tractor-trailer into the crowd and accelerated, mowing bodies over. The driver was shot to death, authorities said. At least 100 people were injured, authorities said.
Here are the latest developments in the tragedy:
• The attack in Nice, France, began when an occupant of the truck shot into the crowd and then drove for 2 kilometers along the pavement of the Boulevard des Anglais, the main street in Nice, regional President Christian Estrosi told CNN affiliate BFM-TV. He said police later found firearms, explosives and grenades in the truck.
• Anti-terror prosecutors have joined the investigation, according to BFMTV, citing the Prosecutor's office.
• Preliminary information from French officials is that there was one individual in the truck, according to a U.S. law enforcement official briefed on the attack. The individual, a male, was killed by police and it does not appear there was any gunfire from the truck, according to the official.
• Subprefect Sebastien Humbert, of the Alpes-Maritimes region, described the incident as a "major criminal attack," according to AFP.
• The driver of the truck that drove into the crowd was shot dead by police, said Pierre-Henry Brandet, a spokesman for French Interior Ministry. There was no hostage situation at any point, he said.
• U.S. President Barack Obama has been apprised of the situation in Nice and his national security team will update him, said National Security Council spokesperson Ned Price.
• Witness Tony Molina said he can see 70-100 emergency vehicles. Two helicopters have landed, he said. Bodies are covered in blue tarps and marked so emergency vehicles don't run over them, he said.
• Maryam Violet, a witness, said she was walking along the beach and saw "a ton of people on the ground and on the sidewalk." "You could see someone with a bike or a wheelchair and someone with a bag full of flowers, innocent and normal people on the beach."
• French President Francois Hollande is returning to Paris from Avignon for emergency talks at the Interior Ministry after the mass casualty incident in Nice, according to French national radio.
• Facebook has activated the Safety Check feature for people in and around the area of the attack.
• An American witness at the scene said the driver of the truck was mowing bodies over, and that he appeared to accelerate as he hit those bodies. The witness said he saw only the driver. He heard gunfire as he ran away, but did not know its source. It seemed like an accident at first, but it became apparent very quickly that it was deliberate, the witness told CNN.
• BFM posted an image of the truck that reportedly was involved in the incident. The photo shows what appears to be bullet holes in the windshield of the white truck.
• Christian Estrosi, the head of the regional council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, said late Thursday: "Dear Nice residents, the driver of a truck appears to have caused tens of deaths. Stay for the moment in your homes. More info to come."

How can we even fight this threat if we're fractured and divided between ourselves?

We're approaching the point where we can expect two to three of these per week in the West now; not as frequent as in Iraq but we are moving that direction. So let's keep destabilizing the Middle East and importing Muslims. Yeah, that makes sense.

Let's review:

-Islam teaches hate
-France let Muslim immigrants into their country by the thousands
-You can't differentiate a "moderate" from a "radical"
-Muslims kill non-believers
-This is not a gun problem
-Relabeling bad actors and actions doesn't help

Any questions?

I've linked an article that kind of addresses the killing of non-believers (see the Syria thread). What it boils down to according to the article is that there are about four schools of thoughts within Islam that interpret the Quoran and Sunnah (preachings of Muhammad). One of those schools of thoughts (Wahhabism) interprets scripture literally whereas the others make more liberal translations and see much of it figuratively. The Wahhabis aligned with the House of Saud in the 1700s and it is the dominant religion in Saudi Arabia. The British and the Americans made pacts with them which exist to this day. And we see where we are.

The problem with a moderate is that they can easily be converted to extremism. They may not be as familiar with the scripture and when they become interested in learning about Islam they can easily be shown the literal interpretation of the passages and become radicalized. Combine that with the fact that much of the Middle East is in shambles and its easy to blame Westerners and the teachings provide them with justification to kill.

The conversion process is interesting. The process begins with learning the doctrine, then moves to eliminating beauty (dancing, music, paintings, covering women), then eliminating feelings of remorse, then approving killing, all while denying pre-marital sex but promising unlimited sex after death.

I'm thinking there's some hypocrisy with the denying of pre-marital sex or at least as it pertains to infidels. They don't seem to have any inhibitions about raping western women based on all the reports out of Europe. I guess its not really sex if the female is an infidel.

They are taught that Infidel females are slaves.

The real hypocrisy is teaching the young Muslims that the West is "Promiscuous" while offering crazy, excessive sex to believers upon death.

From what I can tell so far, a single person did this. Drove a "lorry" into the crowd at high speed and kept going for a long way. I guess it wasn't rigged to explode or a lot more would be dead. Low tech and practically impossible to stop.

Guess we'll have to ban lorries now.

Since 9/11 I have worried about an attack such as this.
First, I absolutely hate it when that attack, and the one in Orlando are called "sophisticated". All they needed was a stopwatch, and for planes to leave on time.
On 9/11, we were still naïve.
But even way back then, I told my friends that all any terrorist would need is a few big trucks either filled with explosives, or to simply drive through, crowds at a football stadium or some other type of gathering. Even at that, I never realized driving through a crowd would result in 75 killed.

It doesn't take a big brain, or sophisticated strategic planning to kill lots of people. The attack in Nice absolutely proves it has nothing to do with guns. If you want to kill people, you will find a way. All you need is the hate and sick desire.
I am curious how BO will respond since he won't be able to spin this in to a "we need more gun control" statement.
Prayers for those impacted in Nice. Unfortunately this is becoming a way of life as we know it.

From Faisal Saeed Al Mutar:

It must be incredibly frustrating as an Islamic Jihadist not to have your views and motives taken seriously by the societies you terrorize, even after you havee xplicitly and repeatedly stated them. Even worse, those on the regressive left, in their endless capacity for masochism and self-loathing, have attempted to shift blame inwardly on themselves, denying the Jihadists even the satisfaction of claiming responsibility.

It’s like a bad Monty Python sketch:

“We did this because our holy texts exhort us to to do it.”

“No you didn’t.”

“Wait, what? Yes we did…”

“No, this has nothing to do with religion. You guys are just using religion as a front for social and geopolitical reasons.”

“WHAT!? Did you even read our official statement? We give explicit Quranic justification. This is jihad, a holy crusade against pagans, blasphemers, and disbelievers.”

“No, this is definitely not a Muslim thing. You guys are not true Muslims, and you defame a great religion by saying so.”

“Huh!? Who are you to tell us we’re not true Muslims!? Islam is literally at the core of everything we do, and we have implemented the truest most literal and honest interpretation of its founding texts. It is our very reason for being.”

“Nope. We created you. We installed a social and economic system that alienates and disenfranchises you, and that’s why you did this. We’re sorry.”

“What? Why are you apologizing? We just slaughtered you mercilessly in the streets. We targeted unwitting civilians – disenfranchisement doesn’t even enter into it!”

“Listen, it’s our fault. We don’t blame you for feeling unwelcome and lashing out.”

“Seriously, stop taking credit for this! We worked really hard to pull this off, and we’re not going to let you take it away from us.”

“No, we nourished your extremism. We accept full blame.”

“OMG, how many people do we have to kill around here to finally get our message across"

The CNN "National Security Analyst" Juliette Kayyem http://www.cnn.com/profiles/juliette-kayyem-profile just said BREXIT will make it harder to stop these type of attacks because it would hamper intelligence sharing.

I'm not kidding...that's what she said. I'm not even going to talk about what intelligence sharing is (BREXIT won't affect it)...I'm gonna just let that marinate for you.

She's a Clintonite and Obama appointee. She also is a Harvard College and Law alum. @huisache, you might be on to something.

Off the charts idiocy.

Ignore facts, lie, and deceive to pursue the political vision no matter how dubious or destructive the results of the vision may be. Brown v. Board of Education was the genesis of much of the liberal fraud that continues today.

The vision assumes that the differences in the achievements, or lack thereof, of races are caused by discrimination. The actual facts suggest otherwise despite the existence of discrimination. Brown v Board was a good example of this assumption (and a great example of proponents using deceit and dubious reasoning to justify the decision). The vision expanded into busing and affirmative action (quotas). The assumption is pervasive in the legal system and was seen again recently in the SCOTUS decision in Fisher v. U.T.

This attack should be a turning point.

The emphasis on preventing attacks up until now has been on airport security and, of course, gun control. But, how do you prevent a truck from being turned into a lethal weapon? If you made planes 100% safe and took all guns out of civilian hands, it wouldn't have saved a single life in this case.

Maybe the next administration will begin to focus on the source of the problem, not the tools they use. Maybe they'll even be able to say the enemies' name.

I agree with your post up to this point. What's your rationale?

Just a guess - but maybe it's that Thurgood Marshall used to fall asleep at the bench and watch TV re-runs in chambers while his clerks wrote everything?

iatrogenic, props for turning Clean and Horn6721 into the moderate voices of reason on West Mall.

Props to you for your single-mindedness and dogged determination of holding onto the idea that statistical discrepancies are moral inequities caused by social conditions that are politically solvable with liberal ideas despite abundant evidence to the contrary. It takes a special kind of person to ignore the obvious with such zeal.

Are you making the bell curve (the Charles Murray book) argument?
