Tequila Recommendations

Having a few friends over tomorrow for Ceviche, Enchiladas, Sol and Margaritas and I need recommendations for a good inexpensive ($20-30) blanco or reposado tequila? A silver would be nice but I doubt there's a good silver in my price range. I'll probably buy a cheaper tequila for frozen margaritas and a better smoother tequila for top-shelf on the rocks margaritas. Also, your best recipe is greatly appreciated? Clase Azul Reposado is my favorite tequila but its made for sipping and its awesome with sangrita. I haven't made a top-shelf or cadillac margarita in a few years. Thanks in advance.

we always use sauza hornitos for our margaritas. it's good enough to me to take a few shots on this side not dressed. i only drink margaritas on the rocks. i don't know the exact measurements but if i were to guess its

1.5-2 oz tequila
.5 oz gran marnier
2-2.5 oz cuervo margarita mix
.5-1 oz oj
.5 oz lime juice

I prefer my margaritas on the rocks also. My usual measurements are:

2 oz Tequila
1 oz triple sec or cointreau
1 oz lime juice
splash of OJ

Anyone try 1800 Reposado or Select Silver 100 proof?

I would recommend looking into Patron's Orange Liquor. It's 80 proof (40%) just like Cointreau & Gran Marnier, but it is about 40% of the price.

I never touch Triple Sec.

Hornitos is the way to go if you want good frozen... or even on the rocks. Anything lower is made with rot-gut liquor and not only burns going down, but makes you feel like crap the next day. THAT'S why people say "tequila fucks me up". It's because they are drinking crap that is mixed with tequila.

Not sure why but good tequilla doesn't always make a good marg

I like hornitos for general purposes, but recently tried a 100% agave--25 ish per bottle tequilla-- caballos-- had a horse on the bottle

I only buy Herradura. It is smooth. Just let your friends only drink about half as much and you have attained your price goal.

This is a tried and true Frozen Margarita Recipe:
1 can frozen limeade
1 can tequila
1/2 can Triple Sec or other orange liqueur
(you can substitute Curacau for a good tasting, blue Margarita)

Put it all in a regular sized blender, add ice and blend. Keep adding ice and blending until you get the consistency you want.

i was down in cabo once, had one of the best margaritas ive ever had at this place called the trailer park. basically, instead of lime juice they use key lime juice, cointreau, a good silver tequila, herradura is my fav...it used to be cheap but now its costly, this stuff called damiana, a gold colored liquor that comes in a bottle shaped like a happy buddah and a splash of soda...i make mine like that now, they are outstanding.

I also jump on the Hornitos bandwagon. It has been my basic tequila for years. Last year I was given a bottle of Lunazul and was blown away. It is good for sipping, shots, mixers, and it is very cheap. It's amazingly smooth.

it was pretty good--I like a bite from tequilla in drinks--this may sound crazy good tequilla is too smooth-- -----
Found it El Caballo estrella

I only drink on the rocks, except maybe at the pool or beach.

I usually buy a silver tequila on the clearance rack (@ Goody Goody's in Dallas) and have never had one I didn't like in my margarita. You can usually get a fairly high end bottle in the 20 to 30's and it's a good way to try different labels, not to mention interesting bottles.

My favorites are Don Julio and Herradura.

Went to Spec's to pick up Padron. They were sampling Cavalino. It is smooth and way cheaper than Padron. I like the Cavalino Anejo.

I'm not a fan of Patron...I consider it the Corona of tequila. All marketing hype and why would I want to drink something that the Mexicans do not drink.

A friend brought over a bottle of El Jimador and I bought a bottle of Lanazul, Hornitos. Will pick up a bottle of Tres Generaciones for this weekend.

Another on the Hornitos band-wagon.

I have a bottle of the Plata and the Reposado in my spirits cabinet... and I have a bottle of the Patron triple sec as well. I tend to make mine 2 parts tequila and 3 parts triple sec....

I picked up a bottle of Casa Noble Crystal last night for $40 and it was very good...smooth with a small bite and great agave taste with hints of pepper. No sweetness....which I prefer in a mixer tequila.

Pickup a small 375ml bottle of Don Julio Blanco the other day, didn't really like it that much...time to move on to another.
