Tebowing

less tebowing...more practicing

and i find it pretty egotistical for such a Christian to allow something like praying to God to be called Tebowing. I can't wait for this guy to get caught in a gay sex scandal like all the rest of them

he didn't coin the phrase "tebowing." it's just something he does on the sideline or after a TD. people are such haters. he was probably one of the best college football players of our generation (heisman, starting qb for 1 national championship team, and backup/goal line qb for another). i'm not sure why people like to see him fail. if he was a longhorn, we would have built him a statue for sure.

Tebow was one of the most over-hyped, over-rated college players I can remember... and he won't make it in the NFL as a QB!

I've always thought prayer was a personal endeavor.

I don't think much of people who grandstand their religion.

Pray before the game, Tim, in private; God doesn't give a rat's a** who wins a footballl game.

H-D -- No one called Tebow "the" best player in this generation. He was referred to as "probably ONE OF the best players in a generation." There is a big difference between "one of" and "the". Moreover, you could still "take" VY over Tebow without falsifying the statement, i.e. Tebow could still be "one of" the best players of the last generation even if some say VY is better. (Tebow clearly had the better career due to VY leaving early, but VY's best year was probably better than Tebow's best year, even though VY never got a Heisman).

I'm not sure how far "one of" goes, but if you asked 100 sports reporters, coaches and former players to name the 25 best players of the last 25 years, Tebow would be in the Top 10 for sure, and probably the Top 5. (So would VY, FWIW).

If you think you could fine 25 players with better careers than Tebow since 1985, I would suggest you are either spiteful or on drugs.

Zona,

Where do you get off calling my opinion "spite"?

If you want to worship this guy fine, but don't get all high and mighty if someone (and it looks like several here) disagree.

I clearly stated he was a very good player, how is that spiteful?

I happen to think he was supported by a group of extremely talented teamates who together were very successful. I also think he was over-hyped as the next coming. And I don't belive he was "one of the greatest in our generation" unless that list is mighty long.

Get off your high horse and let somebody else have an opinion.

isn't going to the ground in the NFL not allowed?

i was referring to the sex scandals that all the Christian promoters out there always get caught in. Preachers, politicians who use religion to promote what they want, all the hypocrites.

Tim Tebow's tears keep Longhorns out of the BCS championship game.

Here is the first link that popped up when I Googled "greatest college football players of all time." Its from BleacherReport, which is a credible source. The only "current generation" players in the Top 10 are VY, Tebow and Frazier.

bleacherreport.com/articles/528267-the-top-50-college-football-players-of-all-time/page/51

There were a bunch of other links with similar lists under that Google search. Tebow is in the Top 10 of all of the ones I have pulled up.

That is what is known as a "consensus".

Zona...
I understand what you are saying completely, but in the post where you detail all of Tebow's accomplishments, I have an issue with you stating he'd be one of the top 3-4 Longhorns of all time... I agree that he'd be one of the top 3-4 Longhorn QB's ever along with Street, Young & McCoy. I believe Tebow had a better supporting cast on Offense & Defense at Florida which helps support the plethora of data & figures!

Your "building a statue" comment at Texas is laughable at best... he was a really good college football player on some really good Florida football teams and we'll leave it at that.

Teblow was a good college player; he's a horrible NFL player.

Maybe Teblow needs to start praying on both knees.

Geezer --

I'd note that you still have not tried to list 15 players from the past 25 years with better career accomplishments than Tebow. Your silence on that score is deafening.

And I don't "worship" Tebow. I frankly don't care about him either way. I am just giving him his due. (The only players I have ever liked enough to arguably be less than objective about are Chuck Cecil, Teddy Bruschi, Steve Kerr, Sean Elliot, Major Applewhite, Jordan Shipley, Ricky Williams and Colt McCoy; you will note that none of them played for Florida).

Here are some more links that list Tebow among the best players ever. I challenge you to find one that was compiled after he graduated that does not list him among the best of his generation.

If you Google "Time Tebow Greatest of All Time" you will find hundreds of articles by reputable sources/writes (e.g. ESPN, SI, etc) making the case pro and con. While I am in the "con" camp, the fact that this argument -- "Is Tebow THE greatest EVER?" -- is so prevalent answers our much "lower-bar" question -- "Is Tebow ONE OF the best of the last GENERATION?" -- in the affirmative.

H-D,

Great QB's that win MNC's are always supported by great supporting casts. If they played for average/poor teams they would not make it to the MNC. (See e.g. John Elway and Dan Marino). Moreover, both VY and Leinart had superior supporting casts to Tebow -- those USC and UT teams had more players drafted over the next 2 years than that Florida team did (SC 16; UT 13; UF 12), and they both had NFL caliber running backs to lightent he load (Bush/Leinart and Charles). Given VY's lesser resume than Tebow (fewer MNCs, no Heismans, fewer AA selections, lesser stats, etc), I'm not sure I'd be arguing "supporting cast" if I were you given that VY had as much or more NFL talent on his team.

In the history of college football, no other player checks more than 3 of the following the following 6 boxes:

MNC,
3 time All America,
Heisman winner,
2-time Heisman runner up,
13,000 total yards,
155 total TD's.

Those stats doen't make him the "best player ever" in my book as so many have argued, but they clearly make him "one of" the best of the last 25 years.

Drafts is not the only way to measure talent. Vince Young for example had Ramonce Taylor and Quan Cosby, great college talents who didn't get drafted (for very different reasons).

The people lambasting Tebow based on all the media attention and undeserved hype he gets are making the same mistake as said media just in the opposite direction.

i stand by my statement. we'll just agree to disagree. there are many metrics to evaluate a player's worth or greatness. not all of them are valid. at some point, you can just go with your gut feeling. you don't think we'd build tebow a statue if he played at texas and amassed all of those wins + statistics + heisman + 2 MNC's? i guess it's getting tougher to get a statue.

thanks zona horn for pulling the stats. on to Texas Tech.
