Problem was that Barry and the boys were pros. SMU was a bunch of neverwas wannabes, who were damn careless. The Aggies were fun because we all know they can fuckup a train wreck, but the NCAA was even more incompetent.
When the NCAA investigated Rod Dockery for paying Murray for cleaning printing presses, but records indicated he never showed up, the NCAA showed up on Directors' Row multiple times. Each time the idiots walked by five doors into the warehouse, but NEVER once did they open a door and go into the warehouse. If they had, they would have discovered that Rod didn't own any printing presses - he contracted all his printing out.
Stories about "battles" between the NCAA and A&M are hilarious stories of ineptitude on both sides.
