TE situation

Depth chart shows:
1. Greg Smith, 6-4, 295
2. Peter Ullman, 6-4, 260
2. Ahmard Howard, 6-4, 248
2. Ian Harris, 6-4, 250

Greg Smith will be interesting. I haven't see much of him yet except as OL, Blocking TE, and in certain jumbo packages. I believe he is also the deep snapper. Don't think he has ever had a catch. With his size I can't imagine him outrunning many LB's thus getting open very often. Thus I primarily foresee him playing the role of blocker, which means that when he is on the field you will have very little threat of him in the passing game. Defenses are going to be able to use 4 DB's on 3 WR's and stack the line.

Ullman is not a fast guy, doesn't have many career catches, and doesn't have great hands. Perhaps others can correct me here but this is my observation.

Thus I think we are going to see Howard and Harris more. We'll see how it goes but we don't have a choice. Again, to me the biggest issue is going to be chemistry between Colt and these young guys in the passing game.

I would rather see more 4 WR, single back sets. I think 3 WR sets with TE and single back will lead defenses to play up on the run and blitz with LB's with less worry. When passing out of this formation you are also at a disadvantage with little threat from the TE on the receiving end (at least with Smith in there). Unless these young kids come along fast I think they are going to have to play spread offense, 4 WR sets, or run heavy short yardage type sets. With those 2 options I would go with the spread.

The one name I have not seen mentioned was big henry melton, I know he was a flop as a running back but he has great hands and probably could pick up the slack pretty well.
